The oldest still-operating amusement park in the world opened in Denmark in 1583. The Guinness World Records lists Bakken in Klampenborg, Denmark, as the oldest still-operating amusement park in the world. The park, which opened in 1583, 441 years ago, features more than 150 attractions, including a wooden roller coaster that was built in 1932.
According to the records book, Bakken wasn't totally unique in its time. "In medieval Europe, most major cities featured what is the origin of the amusement park: the pleasure gardens," they write. "These gardens featured live entertainment, fireworks, dancing, games, and some primitive amusement rides." Who knew?

National Liqueur Day on October 16 annually celebrates the myriad classes and flavors of liqueur. Cheers! The word liqueur comes from the Latin liquifacere, which means to liquefy.
A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from a distilled spirit. Distillers flavor the spirit with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers, or nuts. Next, they bottle it with added sugar or other sweeteners.
While liqueurs are typically considerably sweet, distillers do not usually age their product long. They do, however, allow a resting period during production, which allows the flavors to marry.

Who Knew?? Did you know that there are land, sea and freshwater snails? earthsky.org/earth/land-snails-lifeform-of-the-week/ Snails are gastropod mollusks. That is, they are invertebrate animals: They do not have bones or joints. Their bodies can be divided into three parts: head, shell and foot. Snails have tentacles. The four little horns on their heads are flexible and move in all directions. The top two have eyes at the ends, although they can only distinguish changes in light intensity, as if to differentiate day from night. The two little horns below are sensory organs that snails use to feel the terrain and guide themselves. Snails have their sense of smell in all four tentacles. Snails are hermaphrodites, which means they are both male and female at the same time. Furthermore, land snails are able to move on the blade of a knife without cutting themselves. And they have thousands of teeth.
