For Friday (5/11):
Professionally managed IRA was up 0.24% today. Needed more Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and less Alibaba (BABA) today.
Amateurishly managed taxable account was up 0.40% today. Most of the companies make products and services that I use. Needed more RCI Hospitality (RICK) and less Seagate Technology (STX) today. This morning, I sold my Royal Dutch Shell stock (didn't want to duplicate a holding in my IRA) and bought Kroger (needed more exposure to the consumer staples sector). I was out at lunchtime; I had lunch at a restaurant owned by RCI Hospitality. At their quarterly conference call yesterday, they made a comment that the location I went to was now open (it was delayed four months by Hurricane Harvey) and so far they were doing better than expectations. FWIW, I had a turkey and bacon wrap in a spinach tortilla, French fries, and a Diet Coke. Other customers had consumed all the iced tea and they asked me if I wanted something else to drink. They gave me the Diet Coke on the house for the inconvenience (as if there was anything inconvenient about drinking Diet Coke).

For Monday (5/14):

Amateurishly managed taxable account was up 0.01% today. Needed more Lenovo (LNVGY) and less Sodastream International (SODA) today. Today was an "invest in energy" day for me. Bought eight shares of Valero Energy (VLO) and a hundred Units of Beneficial Interest in the Permian Basin Royalty Trust (PBT). Used to have PBT in my IRA, but that went away when my IRA went under professional management. It's going to make my taxes a little more complicated, I'll have to file Schedule E to properly allocate the income and costs for PBT. You can now call me an oil baron...

Amateurishly managed taxable account was up 0.69% today. Needed more Boeing (BA) and less Comcast (CMCSA) today. Today was an "invest in health care" day for me. Closed my position in Rio Tinto (RIO) and opened one with twenty-five shares of Royal Philips (PHG), who sold off their other product lines and they're now a medical device company. Every night, I use a Philips medical device, so this is a stock that hits close to home for me.
