This is a topic I started on the other site. Tell us, in as much or as little detail as you would like, how your various portfolios performed. Personally, I have a professionally managed IRA and a self-managed taxable account. A good bit of the taxable account consists of stocks that I have an interest in.

For Tuesday (3/27):
IRA was down 1.00% today. Needed more Procter & Gamble (PG) and less Microsoft (MSFT) today.
Taxable account down 0.74% today. Needed more Terumo (TRUMY) and less Boeing (BA) today. But it's a fat chance that I'll get rid of my five shares of Boeing. I'm a Boeing retiree and stockholder, and that's a stock I'm very interested in.

So, what does it cost to have an IRA "professionally managed". I have an IRA (non taxable) just sitting in the bank that I add monies to when I can. How can I roll some of that into a money market? And who does one contact regarding doing that for a person? My bankers don't seem to have a clue.

So, what does it cost to have an IRA "professionally managed". I have an IRA (non taxable) just sitting in the bank that I add monies to when I can. How can I roll some of that into a money market? And who does one contact regarding doing that for a person? My bankers don't seem to have a clue. There are varying levels of fee-only financial planners out there, and varying levels of fees. Of the ones I know about: Charles Schwab has an offering that's basically financial consultant assisted robo-advice for 0.28% a year for the non-cash component (limited to $700 a quarter). Their minimum is $25,000. Wells Fargo has a slightly more involved product for 0.50% a year; don't know their minimums because I didn't get that far with them. I'm with Fisher Investments and have a separately managed account with individual stocks for most of the equity portion and exchange-traded funds for the fixed income portion. They have a sliding rate between 1.00% and 1.50% and a minimum initial deposit of $500,000. I was over that number before I did a big withdrawal because of Hurricane Harvey, but they decided to keep me as a client because of the unusual circumstances. I really like Fisher, and they almost always meet or exceed their benchmarks. My Investment Counselor went to bat for me over the big withdrawal and got the OK from his management because I've been a long-term client in an unexpected situation. I was managing my IRA myself before Fisher at a discount broker and realized it would be a full-time job to manage it the way I wanted to. I would advise against a company that bundles the advice in their financial product commissions because they have an incentive to buy and sell a lot. Exactly how they make their money is described in a brochure in a format regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission called an ADV 2A. They're usually pretty readable, but I went to Engineering school and took a number of Economics classes for the liberal arts portion of my college education.

It was a Monday (4/2) in the market today. First trading day of the week, month, and second quarter of 2018:
My IRA was down 2.21% today. That figure was made even worse than it would be otherwise because my monthly distribution came out of the account. Needed more iShares mortgage-backed securities ETF (MBB), and less Intel (INTC) today. This morning, CNBC was commenting about the "Trump Twitter Effect" on amazon.com (AMZN). But two of my other 40-odd positions were worse off today!
My taxable account was down 1.88% today. Needed more Lenovo (LNVGY) and less Nike Class B (NKE) today.

The major market indexes were up today. The same thing is true about both of my brokerage accounts.
