🐻 I heard this on NPR, was pretty funny. They said that brown bear mothers are caring for their young for another year because...
- they learned it was illegal to hunt bears with cubs (too bad for male bears?)
They realized that they live longer if they have cubs nearby so they kept them nearby to make sure they don't get hunted. Unintended consequences of laws, then again this isn't exactly a consequence, more of a strange side effect...
Not the first time this has happened with hunting law changes, but it is indeed quite unusual; though it's no different than humans bending rules to get around laws.
