Had a glitch this afternoon on my Xfinity Internet and Xfinity Instant TV this afternoon. I didn't go in the living room to look, but the modem probably reset (or the kid on his PlayStation reset it).

It's a RAT race out there, and you gotta run faster than them before they hit your pocket$

Called to negotiate a credit for internet disruption and substandard speeds this morning.
The support tech knows me by name and gave me a month's credit without issues.
Negotiated another deal for an employee to waive their $200 early termination fee.
They're switching from 25 Mbps DSL with phone Service @ $150 per month to 100/100 FIOS with phone service for $50 per month.
When they subscribed they had to subscribe to landline phone service, or satellite television to have the 25 Mbps option.
The ISP was oversubscribed, so many could only subscribe to 6 Mbps DSL for $99 with phone service.

Had to call Frontier as they charged me $100 to $200 for 3 "Free Installations", plus billed me for phone service I don't have and didn't subscribe to.

Isn't it a Pain ? I had a horrible ISSUE with AT&T a few years back...Couldn't get past the front line Phone Operators. Asked for a Supervisor and before you knew it the called dropped..They were charging Us $200.00 plus for an install we NEVER Ordered...after 2-3 wks of getting nowhere I Filed a CLAIM on Line with the FCC, the next day AT&T Atlanta was calling us, and that day after the lady heard my side of the Story, right then and there she reversed the charges and gave me aditional days to pay their last Bill. AFter that, NEVER again a problem, Our account must be TAGGED . The Customers from HELL or Our Reps Screwed them Once, Do Not Bother Them. !!!!

Ran into one of the "features" of Xfinity Instant TV this afternoon: it only has the ability to stream to two devices. Don't know if that's a marketing department limit at Comcast or a technical limit in their service. Ended out watching something other than what I wanted to; over-the-top streaming is not affected.

Consumer Reports for September (arrived on the first of August, of course!) has a cover article about cable and the over-the-top streaming alternatives. They mentioned a lot of free streaming services, including The ROKU Channel (if you have a ROKU, post-Harvey I went full in on ROKU; everything is either a ROKU TV or has a ROKU STB). Although I've been watching a good bit of PLUTO TV and TUBI (both free streaming services).

Marketing department limit. If you have a single X1 box, you can also stream to five devices and have 45 total devices providing you're only doing five or less at a time. Like not having to run coax all over the house. Tempted to cut back on our really fast Internet (250 mbps) and put the money towards having service with X1.

Cut my Xfinity Instant TV back to the minimum. It's something like $20 for all the local channels and all their dot channels. Antenna video where I'm at is unviewable. I've been watching a good bit of Amazon Prime Video documentaries about the space program. Including events that occurred in the Soviet space program that only became widely known after the collapse of the USSR. Houston has a lot of TV between the local channels and the dot channels.
Watching KPRC-TV (NBC 2 in Houston) tonight because KTRK-TV (ABC 13 in Houston) was having technical difficulties. Don't know whether it was the fault of the station or Xfinity Instant TV. Channel 2 comes in just fine.
On an unrelated STEM-related topic: The Texas ERCOT grid has set a new all-time electricity demand today. Retail Electric Providers (Texas has a competitive retail market in areas that were served by investor-owned vertically integrated electric utilities) have been E-mailing their customers asking them to cut back on power-intensive activities between two o'clock and six o'clock in the afternoon. Around this time of day, electricity demand goes down and potential supply goes up (because there's more wind this time of day in West Texas).

Last night, we had a thunderstorm come through about dusk. Power had a fluctuation, enough to make the cable modem reset and temporarily cut us off from Xfinity services (both Instant TV and Internet). ThinkPad stayed up (it has a battery in it, but the battery doesn't power the docking port peripherals). We had a few more momentary signal glitches until the storm headed out to the south.

I have looked into installing and outside TV Antenna, but it really might not help, I have 2 houses between me and the Antennas Location towards Downtown Miami, and the 2 homes are 2 Stories high, my luck !!

We lost power and internet for several hours last night during the thunderstorm.
When my generator kicked on the internet worked for about 30 minutes and never came back on.
Luckily we have strong cellular service and were able to connect to my WiFi on the other side of the lake which was still working, then repeat the signal.
I have some more cord cutting to perform as 2 of my 2 year internet/television/phone subscriptions are about to expire and pretty much double in price.
I never used the phone service and rarely watched television due to commercials.
I'm going to cancel and subscribe to internet only.

Momentary glitches on ABC 13 late in the four o'clock hour. Watched another station (that came in fine) until it was time for ABC World News Tonight. ABC World News Tonight came through just fine. Now, I'm watching MeTV Houston and vintage episodes of M*A*S*H. No problem with MeTV.
