Agreed, overcome our animal nature as best we can in ways that serve, God, the world and each other. Schizophrenic to the end.

Yes, and interestingly enough the only way to do it is to create a kingdom where the self serving animal nature does not exist. Until then repentance (change [of heart and mind] not apology) is the only indication of who will be worthy of that transformation. That leaves the question why so many claiming their love for Jesus refuse to reject that nature now, even if they can't get past it. What I see is far too many self justifying their immersion in the ways of man as ok because they think they are already saved. Not so. Salvation comes by way of repentance which is not sorrow but change. Rejection of that which we should have no reason to defend nor self justify either. Were not slaves able to remain true to themselves while serving a master? Change from what and to what? Defence of self serving ways to loving neighbour/enemy as self. (this is where the Lord Lords always attacked )

<<<What I see is far too many self justifying their immersion in the ways of man as ok because they think they are already saved.>>>
Can't disagree with that. It's not a get out of jail free card. It does require something from us.
Amplified version...I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
<<<Change from what and to what? Defence of self serving ways to loving neighbour/enemy as self.>>>
That change is a process that doesn't come instantaneously.
"The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me."
The self deception is ingrained in the old self. The life I now live in the body has to let go and rely on the Son. That's a process and a difficult one at that.
Colossians 2:20 "If then you have died with Christ to material ways of looking at things and have escaped from the world’s crude and elemental notions and teachings of externalism, why do you live as if you still belong to the world?"
<<<That leaves the question why so many claiming their love for Jesus refuse to reject that nature now, even if they can't get past it.>>>
Ask Paul
Romans 7:15 "I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate."
Was he refusing to reject that nature or finding it difficult? Seems he also couldn't get past that nature entirely either. It's a universal struggle.

I suppose God never intended a ringing in the ears or whatever to signal when He was about to work through us. We would be too tempted to do our own thing in between. But quite often we are aware He has worked through us after the fact.
Well, scripture does say we never will get past it until we dwell in the Kingdom where that side of our nature is removed.

LOL Yes looking back I get to see what a great distance I've come. Looking forward I realize it wasn't that far. The danger in looking back too often or for too long is convincing myself I'm not all that bad.

Very true. Living permanently outside the box will only happen when we leave this life behind. The best we can hope until then is to spend longer and longer visits outside.
