Interesting, I hadn't heard about that. Definitely something to make you think twice about regarding Tesla ownership!

Once again, like a broken record, Prius sales were abysmal. In fact, now they are tanking - worse than before when they were only plummeting.
In May the Prius was down 23.7% compared to May 2018 (which was a 5th straight bad year) and is down 38.8% CYTD YOY.
Prius is on pace to sell ~50K in 2019; queue the fat lady. Prius might not survive past 2019 rather than 2020 with these numbers - even with an AWD option <laughs>....

Younger daughter in Winter Springs has a used Prius, probably 5-6 yrs old. She loves the animal and has had real good service out of it, early last week on her way to work the car died, she was luckily in a residential area. had the car towed to a Toyo Dlr and there was close to $4,000 in repairs and believe it or don't, she did not have to pay a penny for any of the work..Spmething about a New Inverter, Electrical wires to the Headlights and other issues, even the towing was handled by the Dealer on a Recall Deal they found for her.
Her husband is in Mexico working and she had his car at her disposition.

I have heard that gasoline direct injection with turbocharging (Ford's EcoBoost and similar) will deliver hybrid-like fuel economy without hybrid-like drivetrain complexity. That said, I owned a Ford Escape Hybrid for a bit under four months (it was totaled, and by the time I was ready to buy another vehicle they had sold all the hybrids to be produced that model year... so I got a conventional engine vehicle).

Yes, ICE-driven vehicles have gotten a lot better over the past decade with new technologies.
Sorry to hear about your Escape, glad you weren't hurt.

Certainly worth a letter from her to Toyota HQ's, I taught her well, I hope she did that.

Any guesses as to the monthly decline in sales YOY for June for the once-vaunted Prius? I'm going with -25%...

Well, I was close; June sales dropped 26.5% compared to June of 2018 which was an abysmal year for the Prius (a 5-year continuous trend as the Prius fades into obscurity from its once-lofty perch). In total, the Prius is down 36.7% CYTD YOY (29K vs. 46K).

Well, at least they are fixing the problem now! Maybe your daughter can get compensated?
