Michigan vs Ohio State in Columbus next week. Both teams are 10-1. The difference is Michigan lost to non-conference opponent Notre Dame while Ohio State lost in an upset to Big Ten school Purdue. OSU is on life-support, they don't have their usually dominant defense this year and they have struggled to run the ball consistently against quality opponents. Fortunately for them their scheduled was extremely light.
OTOH, UM has gotten its act together offensively this year, finally fielding a reliable QB and a much-improved O-Line.
Anything can happen in The Game, but I would be surprised if UM doesn't come out on top this year.

They might be on life support but they looked pretty good in their beat down of Michigan this afternoon. However they still haven't gotten the yellow flags issues under control. 12 flags for 150 yards.
But to be really truthful, Michigan was out played from the start of the game to the very end.

Yes they were. I think the OSU team that showed up on 11/24 is the team most of the fans were expecting since Game #1. I wonder why Urban couldn't get them to compete at that level until The Game? UM planned on a weak OSU defense and a mediocre O-line. Given that OSU dominated the trenches on both sides (0 sacks by UM), it is easy to understand why the UM game plan failed so miserably. Had OSU played to that potential all season, they would have been 11-0 and #3 in the CFP going into The Game. I wonder which team will show up against Northwestern?

I've interlineated responses to various comments in scarlet. They might be on life support but they looked pretty good in their beat down of Michigan this afternoon. However they still haven't gotten the yellow flags issues under control. 12 flags for 150 yards. The penalties have been a problem all year and continued to be so in the NW game. Part of that is the inexperience of the DBs. When you lose most of your secondary to the next level year after year as we have, guys have to learn on the fly. Sometimes that works out, sometimes not so much. But to be really truthful, Michigan was out played from the start of the game to the very end. Yes they were. I think the OSU team that showed up on 11/24 is the team most of the fans were expecting since Game #1. I wonder why Urban couldn't get them to compete at that level until The Game? Getting up for The Game has never been a problem since Tressel made his promise back in 2001. Cooper didn't get it but these last two guys did. Meyer makes no secret of the fact that we prepare for that game year round. I imagine coach Mick in the weight room in February telling the guys they'd be done, except we're gonna go one more time just for the team up north. Meyer worked on prep for The Game during Spring practice, during Fall practice, at some point every week and especially the bye week. It's right out of Woody's manual! So it's no surprise that they'd bring their best that day.
As for the other games, the defense lost a ton from last year. Then Nick Bosa, the consensus NFL #1 draft choice next Spring, was injured. Initially it was thought that he'd be back for November, but his recovery took longer and so he left school to get ready for the draft and what follows. I don't blame him at all. So now we'd lost the best pass rusher in the game and the secondary is still inexperienced and the linebackers are mostly new, too. Frankly, it could have been a lot worse than it was.
The offense showed up every week except for one or two. That happens to nearly every team. Dwayne Haskins set the B1G record for TD passes with 47 and has nearly 5,000 yards with the Rose Bowl to go. Not to shabby. 11 receivers had double digit receptions. I think the overall scheme was the problem with the running game. We ran a bunch of run/pass option plays, meaning that the Oline couldn't (or shouldn't, anyway) fire out, and we didn't run as effectively as I'd have guessed back in August. Still, Weber and Dobbins averaged a hair under 5 yards per carry with nearly 2,000 total yards between them, again with a game to go. Weber needs a doable 142 yards in the Rose Bowl to reach 1,000. Dobbins is already over that mark. Early in the year, Haskins had few planned runs and seemed reluctant to run other times. By the end of the year, after Purdue and they started sending the backup in a Tim Tebowesque style, Haskins reacted by showing he can be a fairly strong runner. Nothing like JT Barrett, no longer with us after his seemingly 8 years of eligibility expired, but JT's arm was nothing like Haskins'. My guess is we lose Haskins to the pros -- I heard he's currently pegged at #11 in a fairly QB poor draft. Running QBs in the NFL generally have a short shelf life anyway. That's ok -- his backup, Tate Martell was 22/28 and can run like Barrett, if not like Tebow.
Anyway, we came out flat against Purdue -- we always get our opponents' very best shot each week -- and we had some critical drops, critical penalties, and critical defensive breakdowns (mostly overplays by the LBs and secondary) that led to big plays. We doubled down as the game wore on and didn't manage to make the play and dug ourselves a deeper hole. Personally, I think the coaches panicked late in the 3rd quarter and gambled on defense when if we'd played it straight and forced a punt (and didn't put on a punt block that yields a mean ruffing penalty, or even nice ruffing if there are 5 or fewer yards to go for a 1st down), we might have been fine. Who knows? At the end of the day, Purdue was the better team that day. We lost, no excuses.UM planned on a weak OSU defense and a mediocre O-line. Given that OSU dominated the trenches on both sides (0 sacks by UM), it is easy to understand why the UM game plan failed so miserably. That's a good one! C'mon, man, this was the revenge tour! They were supposedly out to take no prisoners. Harbaugh has been around the block as a player and a coach way more than enough times to know better than that. His team was sitting in 4th place in the CFB Playoff standings. Beat Ohio State and NW again and it's the programs first trip ever to the playoff. They never made it to the BCS final. No, they didn't underestimate the Buckeyes. They lost their opener to a ND team they should have beaten by two TDs. The beat NW by only 3 points! And their game with little bro was all tied up until very late in the 3rd quarter. They won that by 14, but it was a game until very late. Had OSU played to that potential all season, they would have been 11-0 and #3 in the CFP going into The Game.Absolutely true. We underperformed. When you aim high and miss, sometimes you still end up in a good place. Pasadena is such a place.I wonder which team will show up against Northwestern?See my response to a similar question posed in the Ohio State topic. Hint: It wasn't the one we saw that night at West Lafayette.

Regarding ND/NW, UM's offense has been improving week after week. If those games were played today, they'd have very different outcomes. ND also got extremely lucky on a couple of prayers that the UM defense missed intercepting that were somehow completed... And Little Bro has a terrific defense. OSU found that out too - until MSU's offense showed up and handed OSU the victory.
