The Rays are mostly young players that have been brought up from the Rays' minor league team. When you watch the game you can see that they are having fun. It is actually fun to watch, especially if you don't expect them to win and then do. You can see pure joy on their faces.

The Rays have won 5 in a row, but tonight's game will be a challenge against the AL West leader the Astros. It is a home game, so maybe these young Rays that seem to be having fun, can pull of another win. Time will tell.

Hard for me to believe that as of today the Rays have won 42 games and lost 41 games. AND, just won 3 out of 4 games over the current world series champs the Astros.

The Rays officially traded right-hander Chris Archer to the Pirates before Tuesday's non-waiver Trade Deadline, acquiring a talent-rich package that includes outfielder Austin Meadows, right-hander Tyler Glasnow and a player to be named. Archer was one of few frontline starters available on the market at this Trade Deadline, and he shouldn't merely be a rental -- he is controllable through 2021, with team-friendly options of $9 million for 2020 and $11 million for 2021.
The Rays traded All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos to the Phillies for a player to be named or cash considerations.
Rays acquire OF, Tommy Pham from the Cardinals, hitting .248 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs and international bonus pool money in exchange for three Minor League prospects: outfielder Justin Williams, the Rays' No. 14 prospect, left-hander Genesis Cabrera (No. 25) and right-hander Roel Ramirez.

"Cole Hamels' brilliant first month with the Cubs and Blake Snell's continued dominance after returning to the Rays have netted them MLB's Pitcher of the Month Awards for August. Snell forced his way back into the Cy Young Award race after coming back from the left shoulder fatigue that had landed him on the disabled list coming out of the All-Star break. In five August starts, the left-hander went 4-0 with a 1.04 ERA, the best of any AL pitcher who threw at least 20 innings during the month." (above is from mbl.com/rays/news)

Blake Snell continued to state his case that he's the best that the American League has to offer. Snell kept that narrative alive Wednesday, pitching the Rays to a 3-1 win over the Indians at Tropicana Field. Snell, who clearly is in the Cy Young conversation, held the Indians without a hit for six innings. Snell did pick up his Major League-leading 19th win of the season, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out nine in seven innings. In the process, he dropped his ERA from 2.06 to 2.03.
WAY TO GO SNELL.

Snell picks up franchise-record 21st win of year. Southpaw lowers ERA to 1.90. Blake Snell showed why he deserves to be a top candidate for the American League Cy Young Award as the 2018 season comes to a close. Snell's 1.90 ERA and 21 wins lead the AL.

The Rays conclude the 2018 season with a record of 90-72. That is far more successful than what even the most optimistic fan would have predicted in March.

Yes, people, even the owners were surprised. Now if they can keep the team together for next year, who know what might happen. And, 90 wins was good enough for Atlanta to win their division.
