You're analysis is spot on, GTH, regarding both Urban and the former BDBDITL. I suspect that one of the reasons the Trustees went so long Wednesday in their meeting was that some wanted to fire Meyer while some wanted him reinstated with time served.
I think it's a credit to Meyer that he's willing to take this one for the team, read the statement that was obviously prepared by one of Drake's minions, serve his suspension and put this whole episode behind him. I think he could have fought this successfully had he wanted to. Hopefully we're 3-0 when he returns to take the helm. And I guess he can still sue them after the season's over!

We learned in Game 1 that it doesn't matter who the head coach is on the sidelines in week 1 when you open against a team unlikely to end up in a bowl this season.
We also learned that Clem Haskins is an actual QB! We have not had one of those in a while here. I did feel a little bit of withdrawal setting in as we reached the 4th quarter and we had not ran a read option play, a staple of the Buckeye's offense since JT arrived 10 years ago (or at least it seems). That was cured when Tate Martell was reinserted to mop up. I think we ran the play 3 times? I must say I don't miss it!
Haskins carried the ball only twice, neither time was it planned. He showed he can scramble effectively, though not nearly as nimbly as Barrett. That's fine, Haskins was very accurate with his arm, and our tailbacks showed they're very capable of running the ball without being spelled by the QB.
Weber was a beast! He's picked up some nifty moves to go with his power running style. Dobbins will still get plenty of yards this season, and from the way the other two played in mop up, there will be games we see all 4 of them when it's still on the line. What a luxury it is to have such depth to keep everyone fresh. And as fast as Haskins ran the offense, there should be plenty of plays to insure that everyone gets a decent number of carries.

As I commented here, LSU transfer Joe Burrow started last night against #8 Miami and played very well. I linked to an SI story there. I was initially disappointed to see Burrow go, as I thought he was very capable (not as strongly as others) and based on Spring Game action and other stints in games, he seemed to show better than Haskins. I also noted when I made those comments (and in response to others) that we don't get to see what happens at practice. Maybe Burrow showed a going through the motions attitude by his 4th year while Haskins was a good student and all business? Whatever the reason, Haskins answered a lot of questions on Saturday, and at this point, I have no regrets about the coach's failure to pick Burrow in the preseason, nor about Burrow's decision to go to LSU. I'll note that SEC homer Todd Blackledge showed proper SEC disrespect for Ohio State and the B1G last night in the pregame. Asked by his partner to assess Burrow, Blackledge responded that he has the tools, generally, but questioned if Burrow could adapt to the speed he was going to see from Miami. Um, Todd, do you have any idea who Burrow has been going against for the past 4 years? In case you slept through the last 4 NFL drafts, most of the DBs (and some DLs and LBs, too) who defended the receivers Burrow was throwing to are playing on Sundays now. I thought we busted the notion that we're a bunch of SFWGs (John Cooper's term) when we played 'Bama and their dominating SEC speed in the first national semifinal (Burrow was 12 Gauge's backup even then), and then went on to destroy an Oregon team that was supposed to run us off the field so fast we'd forget we even played in the game. It didn't take long for Burrow to hand Blackledge a word sammich. His passes were on time and on target all night. Early on, LSUs OL appeared to be a tad overmatched, and Burrow showed his good decision making ability and tossed it away to play another down. There were also 2 or 3 drops by halftime or Burrow's throwing percentage and yardage totals would have been higher. Also, likely out of concern that the receiver had stepped on the line, LSU sprinted to the new line of scrimmage and ran in a TD from the 1 yard line in the 2nd quarter. Replay showed that not only did the receiver tip toe without touching the line with his first foot, he dragged his second foot into the pylon on the goal line for what should have been ruled Burrow's first TD pass as a Tiger. So Joe starts his new career with an asterisk! Congrats Joe, and good luck! Beat 'Bama!!

Who can stop the Buckeyes offense at this point? TCU showed the Buckeye offense can be slowed down last week (The defense scored twice), though one of our normally reliable receivers had 3 drops (he also had some catches) at critical times that would have added a lot of yards and probably at least 14 points. Haskins was pressured for the first time and showed that he's less accurate when he has to throw earlier than he'd like to. Go figure! Importantly, that video should really help him and the OL moving forward if they can square things away to give him another half second or so back there. It's great to see someone willing to stay in the pocket and not run at the first hint of pressure.

It's pretty quiet on this thread! I think OSU fans know that their team isn't as strong this year compared to years past. Their D is mediocre and they cannot run the ball... If you can cover within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage you can shut down most of OSU's passing attack as well. The real question is if Urban will be around next year?

As jcs72 observed, this thread has been quiet. No doubt true for a number of reasons, but the biggest is that, aside from the statement win at Penn State, the Bucks have had a series of close calls against inferior teams, and one outright humiliating loss.
Until today.
#4 ranked Blue has looked great, with only one loss against Notre Dame in their opener, and led by their transfer starting QB, Shea Patterson. Many of us in Buckeye Nation feared that That Team Up North would notch their first win against the Bucks in 7 years, not to mention their first win in Columbus in 18 years.
Nope. Not this year.
The Bucks had some close calls, but pulled away in the second half to get a 62-39 win, breaking an over 100 year old record for the most points scored by both sides in this game.
So the Bucks will go to the Big Ten championship game next weekend in Indianapolis to face Northwestern.
And they earn some badly needed "style points" to make their case for a playoff berth.
During the game, I did a running commentary in this thread.

So after not showing up for 11 games until The Game, will that team from 11/24 come to play against NW, or will it be the team that was humiliated a mediocre Purdue team?

So after not showing up for 11 games until The Game, will that team from 11/24 come to play against NW, or will it be the team that was humiliated a mediocre Purdue team? The answer is in. The Buckeyes handed the Mildcats their worst defeat of the season, winning easily by a score of 45-24. With the Buckeyes dominating 21-7 at the half, a fired up NW squad came out of the locker room and put 2 TDs on the scoreboard to start the 3rd quarter, but the Buckeyes quickly figured out what had happened and, led by Dwayne Haskins' record setting 499 passing yards and 5 TD passes, the Buckeyes put them away, going into "Victory" formation and passing on a chance to make an even louder "style points" statement. As it turns out, Oklahoma played one of it's best games of the season on Saturday, avenging an earlier defeat to arch rival Texas. Having defeated every team on their schedule, Oklahoma was an easy choice for the 4th playoff spot. While I believe Notre Dame will get crushed by Clemson in the semifinal and does not truly belong in the playoff, I also recognize that the Committee had to take them and, if I had a vote, I, too, would have chosen ND, albeit in the #4 spot because they're not a conference champ. But I'd have had Clemson in the #1 spot, so the matchups would be the same, just in different locations. Clemson/ND would play in Miami and Alabama would face Oklahoma in JerryWorld were I king. During the selection show, one of the talking heads said that this would be a year that the BCS would have worked out just fine. I couldn't believe it! I have ND in the top 4 only because the playoff is the one way to resolve their claim that they're 12-0 and if they were left out, justifiably their fans would say they should be #1 after they win their lesser bowl game. Unlike the old BCS, the CFB playoff format mostly avoids the problem of multiple deserving claims to the title. But not always. The same claim will be made by my 2017 National Champ UCF should they win their bowl game, making it their second straight undefeated season. I feel for them, and if there were six spots, they'd have a good case. Over at the other place, I crowned them National Champs after that joke of a championship game proved nothing to me. It left us with no true SEC champion. I'm glad the committee did not bow again to the pressure from the SEC and include a 2 loss Georgia team in the playoff. Unlike last year's farce, I'll watch the final game this year.

I just heard the breaking news that Urban Meyer has "decided"1 his health won't allow him to continue as head coach of the Buckeyes and he'll step down after the Rose Bowl. His record stands at 82-9 (he needs to win the Rose Bowl to avoid a double digit figure in his final career loss column) overall and 7-0 against the school up north.
Ryan Day, 39, who served as interim head coach during Meyer's suspension earlier this year, will succeed Meyer at the helm.
1I don't believe it's solely a health issue. Meyer was exceptionally upset this fall when The university decided to suspend him for those 3 games. He was lobbying strongly for time served after the report came back showing that he'd basically done everything his contract required but the University president caved to the pressure of the times and the board went along sheep-like. It's likely that stress from the investigation and resulting suspension contributed to any escalation in his cyst related health issue.

Wow. Just -- wow.
SUVFan, I think you're right. Urban Meyer didn't need the grief of the suspensions, yet they added to his stress and probably impacted his health.
At least he gets to go out having gone to the Rose Bowl, and having an undefeated record against That Team Up North!

Urban Meyer didn't need the grief of the suspensions, yet they added to his stress and probably impacted his health. In the afternoon press conference, Meyer was asked two or three times if the events of the fall impacted his decision. He was careful to point to other factors, too, but he consistently cited the suspension as one of the factors. One of the reporters asked about it in terms of whether The university's handling of the matter was a factor, and Meyer indicated that he'd already answered that question, but after going through the litany again, proceeded to say again that it was one of the factors. I will not be surprised to see him coaching somewhere else in a couple of years. OTH, I also will not be surprised to learn that he's actually a lot sicker than he's letting on. But I think if his health improves to allow him to coach, he will. The question came up, but he dodged it by saying he has no plans to coach elsewhere. But last week he said he had no plans to step down as coach. While that may be true, we know from today's presser that he was certainly considering it.
