2018 NFL Draft: Ohio State picks, teams: No. 4 (Cleveland Browns): CB Denzel Ward No. 21 (Cincinnati Bengals): C Billy Price No. 64 (Indianapolis Colts): DE Tyquan Lewis No. 73 (Miami Dolphins): LB Jerome Baker No. 77 (Cincinnati Bengals): DE Sam Hubbard No. 102 (Minnesota Vikings): DE Jalyn Holmes No. 168 (Seattle Seahawks): OL Jamarco Jones Also, per the linked piece, "According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, J.T. Barrett signed with the Indianapolis Colts." In other words, JT was just about as bad as I typically posted. Loved his attitude and leadership, but I always found his skill and especially his decision making lacking. I still remember several times he decided to take off from the pocket and ALWAYS went to his right that he might have scored an 80 yard TD had he shifted to his left, which was wide open. And there was a hole, he just never saw it. If he missed it half the time, I could probably excuse it, but he never found it. Then there were all the picks he threw to the left side of the field that were straight at defenders.

JTB4 signs 3 tr. contract with NO Saints. Payton says Barrett deserved to be drafted! O-H-! I think JT is way better off signing as a free agent. This way, he had the ability to consider if the Saints are a good fit, instead of having been selected because some scout's board said he was the guy when the team had about a minute to decide who to take. Meanwhile, based on the spring game, I see Urban & Co let Joe Burrow go. He had the best spring game and has more game experience than the two we have left. I continue to be disappointed with Urban's choices at QB. Ironically, the only time he's won the National Championship with the Buckeyes, it happened with the number 3 QB being forced on him due to injuries to his top two. His emphasis on a QB's legs drives many of these decisions. The QB's arm might be a factor to take into account. Discounting that feature is the only way I can explain how Burrow ends up leaving.

Here's a fun one! I'm aware that camp has not started, and that it won't for over a month. And I'm a firm believer that no stock at all should be placed in pre season college football polls. But using 'Vegas projected wins for the coming season (they project the Buckeyes with 10.5 wins -- maybe 'Vegas doesn't know they did away with ties a while back?), the Buckeyes are projected to take on Clemson in the Cotton Bowl for one semifinal and Alabama would square off against Washington in the Orange Bowl, pretty much a home game for the Tide. There's no point in analyzing it, as it won't happen the way they project it. But it's still fun! Go Buckeyes!!

Urban Meyer messed up hiring a guy with a suspect personal past (assaulting his spouse) - what saddens me more is that he still thinks it was a good hire despite 3 total incidents showing that this wasn't an isolated incident but rather a pattern of abuse...

The inquisition supposedly wrapped up yesterday. Unofficial reports say that Meyer not only knew about the 2015 allegations back then, he reported them up the chain. So why he lied to the media is a mystery. That doesn't seem like much of an offense though.
I'm not at all happy with how the university has handled the matter. It seems like this should have taken a few days, not nearly three weeks. Dr. Drake has reminded me of Karen Holbrook since his appointment as President, and if Urban goes down, he'll be the second in a row to go down in scandal on AD Gene Smith's watch.
There was a lot of anticipation for this season, and we're now just 13 days until Game 1. I'm sure the assistant coaches are doing a fine job, and I'd be surprised if the acting head coach has not been in contact with Urban, but it has to have been a distraction.
Instead of talk about who the coach is going to be, the talk should be focused on who's going to start at QB? Hmmmm, come to think about it, maybe this "distraction" might be a blessing in disguise?

Many Buckeye fans, myself included, believe Meyer got a raw deal from the independent, sly NY lawyer, whose report laid the foundation for the suspensions gth (Columbus OH) reported in the previous post. Around the country, led by their cheerleader and long time Meyer hater Jim Rome (possibly because Meyer shuns Jimmy's show), many believe the penalties are too soft. Goldilocks probably believes it was just right. Virtually no one in the national media and likely few locals have read the 23 page summary report (prepared by the sly NY lawyer) that Ohio State released and that provides a lot of detail. I've read it. If you haven't and you're relying on media reports of what's in it, you're not hearing the whole story. For example, I have not heard anyone in the media report that the 2015 allegations of domestic abuse that are at the center of the matter were known to Ohio State's Athletic Department Title IX office before either AD Gene Smith or Coach Meyer knew of them. Yet it turns out the Title IX office actually informed Smith, who informed Meyer -- It's right there on page 7 of the report: Later in the report, on page 17, the sly NY lawyer explains that: Quite remarkably, on the next page, the sly NY lawyer criticizes Coach Meyer for failing to make "any report of the matter to Athletic Compliance or University Compliance for consideration of whether an internal investigation should be conducted." So Meyer's supposed to make a written report to Athletic compliance even though that's the very office that the sly NY lawyer identified as having brought the existence of the issue to Smith initially? What is Meyer supposed to do? Type up a memo to Ms. Willis saying that "Under the terms of my contract I'm reporting to you (exactly as you reported to me via AD Smith) that the Powell police are investigating my assistant coach for potential domestic abuse against his wife.' But that's the biggest thing the sly NY lawyer could find that Meyer did wrong after spending two weeks on the investigation, and billing who knows how many hours to the university. Not to worry, I estimate that Ohio State is saving about a half million in salary to Meyer, and another $75,000 or so to Smith for their unpaid suspensions, which should about cover the sly NY lawyer's bill. If Meyer had only been an academic instead of a football coach, he'd have realized he needed to report back to the compliance office the very same information they provided to him via AD Smith. Note that AD Smith would not be off the hook -- his contract requires him to report such things both to the Athletic compliance office and to "University Compliance." He failed to report to either, though in the case of the Athletic compliance office, the report to Smith by the Title IX Deputy should have been sufficient for that office. But he failed to report it to University Compliance. Under the chain of command, that would appear to be AD Smith's sole responsibility. Meyer had no reporting obligation to University Compliance.

SUVFan , I read the "Summary of Findings" and it left me cold, as it seems it did you. Ultimately, the complaint against Urban Meyer, who claimed in his tweeted public statement that he "followed proper protocol" was that he did not. And for that, he incurred a 3 game suspension.
I suspect that, once OSU, that is President Drake and the trustees, convened the investigation, it had to find something, no matter how legalistic. And so it did, reading vague language in a clause in Meyer's contract in the broadest possible way.
Urban Meyer's real crime was that, in an unguarded moment, when he was under pressure, having just fired the grandson of his mentor, and possibly under the influence of medication, he unintentionally made a false statement, soon contradicted, on the matter of sexual abuse. And coming when it did, in the wake of 2 other abuse scandals (one over 20 years old), this embarrassed The Ohio State University. Had he not made that statement, nothing would have happened.
We have already seen this kind of embarrassment was unacceptable to President Michael Drake, who fired the Best Damn Band Director in the Land for not moving fast enough to change the OSU Marching Band's culture. Urban Meyer is perhaps fortunate to have kept his job.
