You bring up another good possibility:
"The Monthly Purge"
CK could blindly purge ALL attachments every month. whether it's 1 month or 1 day old.
This would also solve the problem so every month we get a fresh start with little to no manual effort by any one person. But once again, only the admin can do this.
It still would be be better to script/bot it, or have multiple admins to help clean up.
Hmm... might need to have another temporary freeforum set up so I could figure out how to do this management on another forum as a test...

Attaching photos is different from posting photos which are hosted elsewhere. So attaching photos will stop when the site runs out of space to store them. Posting pictures correctly will continue even after the site storage space runs out. 👍 😁
Members who are still posting photos as attachments should stop doing so on their own, but will eventually have to stop when they can't post pictures any longer. Hopefully they will learn how to post their pictures without using any of the limited GBO storage space.
Once those members do that, they could go through the Activity list in their Profile to find any photos they have previously posted as attachments and self-delete them.
As a non-admin, (who has experience as a site admin on multiple websites), it is easy to check whether a picture has been attached or not. Unfortunately, as a non-admin it may only be done one picture at a time. Hopefully CampKohler (Sacramento CA) has a quicker, better, more efficient way of finding and deleting the attached files/photos (or we could just leave them and once the storage space is filled up, no one else will be able to post photos as attachments). 😎

Well, it's not like proboards is stopping us from using the forum when there's 0MB free - it just stops new attachments - so it's not like it's a problem stuck at 0MB free because the textual posts do not use that 200MB space. If the intent is to stop people from attaching photos - there's no need to do anything because it will automatically stop you from uploading anyway!
It's just that people who actually want/need to post a new picture is prohibited from doing so - the people who got a chunk of space early on now possibly is simply wasting space that may never get viewed again!

I should have clarified ... want/need to ATTACH a new picture is prohibited from doing so...

you guys are funny...as we used to say in grade school, "who died and left you boss".
There are more important things in life than worrying about the amount of attachment space left in the forum.

Well, that's the nice thing about it—nobody had to die. The basic problem for me was that my hosting service, Photobucket, started charging $400/year for supporting calls from other sites, so I was going to have to switch to another. I just haven't had the time to investigate all that. But I noticed today on another forum that I run that the stock you're-screwed-now-unless-you-pay image from Photobucket is no longer visible and my called photos are working once again. What the...? Have they reversed their policy or has something gone wrong on their end (from their point of view)? How long will it last? Hmmm...

Could it have been cached?
Got a cookie for yourself? (I did this for my website, cheesy hack, if I was logged in/got a cookie for my website, my server would pull up the whole picture. However if you didn't have a cookie/logged in, it would give you a 480x320 picture, *really* compressed (trying to hit like 30K tops), to save bandwidth as I do not have the bandwidth to serve pictures.
What are you thinking about the current status? Just annoying that it's difficult for regular users to find the pictures they posted as far as I know.

Well, the easiest way to tell what's available is to try it...
I had a new forum created, and clicking through what's available. It looks like the information that the admin page that specifies the attachments would be VERY useful for individual users even if they couldn't actually access it - merely knowing the link to the post is sufficient for self-policing.
If I could read that page, I could generate a posting once in a while with a table
<user> <MB used> <link to post that contains attachment> <user> <MB used> <link to post that contains attachment> <user> <MB used> <link to post that contains attachment>
etc., etc. and then people would know where to look for their post and make a judgement whether to remove it or not.
Unfortunately a page like this would probably more than a thousand lines long... Perhaps a better idea is to send a message to those using more than (some number) of MBytes. That shouldn't be too hard to code up adding up all the attachment sizes...
Just need that information somehow...create a pseudo-admin rank to enable people to at least view that page...

I checked out all the free hosting sites posted by Hemond and settled on this one: postimages.org It was quick and easy. I uploaded 5 pics and choose one, then share and then hotlink for forums, copied, pasted on GBO thread and there was the picture! Thank you Hemond

Y A Y ! CONSTRUCTIVE ADVICE! Thank you buddies! - Some long awaited possibilities presented!
P.S. - Some of us have created more fun threads than others - and have more posts than others, so,... remember, apples to oranges. "Public shaming" on a "FUN" site Should not be an option . Even the phrase is offensive. ~ Thank you!

Well, if nobody wants to be responsible for the mess *they* created by filling up the attachment space, and force someone else to go use another site to handle their pictures, what else can be said...
sad, sad world - no responsibility anymore!

I hopefully freed up about 600 KB a couple of hours ago by switching a post from attached files to linked files on my own Web site. Both of the files were there in the first place.

I thought I cleaned up all my attached files, but today I found and eliminated two more of them by pointing to files on my non-GBO Web site (where the pictures came from in the first place).

If you could give some hints as to how people could locate their attachments, that would be helpful...
