8½ miles 1,300' rise in elevation total for Mon & Tues
Looks like rain in my area today. Love taking Reo to run back and forth during my hike. The dog smells so many different things on the sides of my loop mtn road way in the forest. Seldom does a vehicle drive by.

Yesterdays totals:
5.6 Miles, 17,073 Steps - 70's and R/H in 60's
1/2 of those miles were pulling a wagon up and down hill to River Park with grandson and food / drinks in tow.
Normally my route has dogs barking at me. Though in evening when I walk with my wife, the dogs seem to bark at her as well...

What are you folks using to determine how many steps you have?
Are your totals including activity around the home and yard?

Use my Iphone health app. so yes it does include my activity (when I remember to bring it). Yesterdays activity: 9.5 miles, 22,763 steps, temp in 60's and upper 80's and R/H was 60's - 50's.

8.73 miles 18,917 steps 157 minutes 53-70F / 61% RH A beautiful sunny day, with a comfortable breeze.
MidnightSun - I use a regular old pedometer by Omron, the HJ-720 ITC model. They've probably upgraded to a new model number because I've had this one for years. I only wear it on the morning walk.

Hiked 4.25 miles w/a 650' elevation gain. The dog must do dbl that w/all the running.
Always wondered how many steps it takes me to hike a mile. 2000 steps is the "industry standard" in pro hiking, plus an avg of 30 min miles for every 1000' of rise in elevation.
There has to be another ½ mi mowing the lawn. See online the cost of a pedometer is minimal. May get one to count the steps.
TY for sharing the info.

8.18 miles 17,777 steps 147 minutes 68-75F, 57% RH
Walked on the Ernst Trail west from the Smock Highway trail head, out-and-back. Even with Deep Woods Off, it was a losing battle with the bugs. Quite a few cyclists, joggers, and walkers out enjoying the morning.
MS - With the pedometer I use, you have to enter your stride length. It shows you how to do it. Mine is set to 2' 6", so it displays miles, time, number of steps, and number of aerobic steps (over 60 steps per minute or over 10 minutes continuously) plus a few things I never use. 2,000 steps/mile sounds about right. I'm short so my legs don't cover as much ground per stride.
I checked mine this morning against the trail mile posts, and it's cheating me by about 5%, which is fine as long as it's consistent (It's not the Olympics). It can never be completely accurate because you shorten and lengthen your stride according to the terrain.
I imagine the ones that use GPS are more accurate, but with this I just throw in a new battery every 6 months and grab it and clip it to my belt on the way out. Have a great weekend. Tomorrow is a day off!

Yesterday:
8.5 miles, 20,809 steps. R/H 70% and Temps 60's - 70's
I once played golf and I put my phone in golf bag... It "assumed" i was riding and not walking. Was I not happy.
It also seems to mess up if I put in a "pouch" on a "hoodie" I wear.
Midnightsun, would not be able to handle the elevation rise... though I would get credit of Flights Climbed. My route is really flat... lorando, I use bug spray when I play golf (I usually hit my shots in tree coverage). My off works ok, though when they can get me on my arms / legs they will go on the back of my back (through shirt).

Used to lead groups of hikers from cities in the NH mtns. Remember one fellow said he did marathons several x a year. He had trouble with the elevation gain. It used a different set of leg muscles. A big rise in elevation adds 20% to the calories burned, the workout and the effort required. Only the downtowns are flat around here. Hills and mtns are the terrain.
After Mom's Day here the bugs hatch. Some days are way too much. Come July, 3/4 hot days in a row diminish them greatly by August there are few buggers. Saw my first skeeta in months the other day. Sept is nearly bug free in these parts. Love it!
4¼ mi with 650 ft of elevation gain yesterday. Plan to hike today, then mow the grass. Reo, the dog, Loves to get exercise w/me. His enthusiasm increases my desire to out there.
