This "JUMPED" out at me this morning.
"It is forbidden to have statues, and yet, you Catholics have statues in all of your churches. This is idolatry!"
"It certainly would be idolatry if any Catholic thought that the plaster and paint before him in the form of a person was actually a god. When God wrote this Commandment, the Israelites at that very moment were worshipping an Egyptian god, the golden calf (Exodus 32:4). They were worshipping it as a god. It is not forbidden to have statues. The Ten Commandments were carried around in the Ark of the Covenant, which had 2 statues of angels on top of it (Exodus 25:22). Solomon had statues of cherubim in his magnificent temple (Ezekiel 41:19). Moses had a serpent statue made in the desert, so that all who looked upon it (not worshipped it), would be healed of snake bites (Numbers 21:8). When people stand up, place their hands over their hearts, and pledge allegiance to a red, white, and blue colored piece of fabric, that is only honoring what it represents, it is not worship. The exact same thing goes for statues. The devil uses evil imagery on TV, in the movies, on web pages, in magazines, and on billboards to ensnare humans every day; conversely, the Catholic Church uses sacred imagery and art to inspire people to holiness. When you look at a picture of your dead child or parents and start crying, you are not “worshipping” the picture; it is only a reminder of what the person looked like."

No doubt a look of shock that they dared to oppose the system of man.

More a case of celebrity worship if anything. Even the Amish refuse to have their pictures taken for fear of idolatry.

Could you all please increase the font a bit. I have trouble seeing. Thank you.
And, argh, I made it level 3 arial in responding. Looks good in the response field, but after sending it and looking at it it is small again. Increasing it now to level 4, 14pt.
Now, sissurf, you had this:
>>>This "JUMPED" out at me this morning.<<<
Well, but I have said for this thread, what has jumped out at you from the Word of God, not the word of man. In other words, you are reverently reading the Holy Bible and something from the Holy Bible directly spoke to you or engendered some thought.
>>>"It is forbidden to have statues, and yet, you Catholics have statues in all of your churches. This is idolatry!"<<<
I did not type that on this thread. You asked me a question. I responded with 1 Jn 1: 6 or so to 2:2. However you have the above, and because the thread flipped to another page a casual reader might think I wrote that. Not that I am defending myself, but it is like I said in my first response to you about the venue.
>>>"It certainly would be idolatry if any Catholic thought that the plaster and paint before him in the form of a person was actually a god.<<<
Again, I was a Catholic. And true, we knew very well that these people were not gods. But we did, and Catholics still, pray to them, which underscores my initial response to you, that Catholic doctrine and practice declares the work of Jesus Christ as insufficient.
>>>When God wrote this Commandment, the Israelites at that very moment were worshipping an Egyptian god, the golden calf (Exodus 32:4). They were worshipping it as a god. It is not forbidden to have statues. The Ten Commandments were carried around in the Ark of the Covenant, which had 2 statues of angels on top of it (Exodus 25:22).<<<
And sadly the response, wherever it came from, goes on leaving out certain facts and creating strawman "points" designed to enable a conversation like this to spin off in many directions to avoid the Truth.
For one thing, when done correctly, if the Ark had to be carried about it was to be covered. It was to be kept in the Holy Holies. No one saw it -- or was supposed to see it -- except the High Priest, and that, only once a year, and not without blood. Regarding the images on curtains and such, no God fearing person in the Holy Bible prayed to them.
By contrast, Catholics and others pray to the people or concept of the image before them or in their mind. Not one Christian did that in the New Testament.
Now, since the page flipped, and to stay on track, I will re-post my earlier response to you, sissurf:
>>I would also like to know if you feel I am from an occult because of being Catholic? Thank you for your understanding.<<
"Occult" is something else, and what I got into after I left the Roman Catholic Church in my heart.
"Cult" is a term I think most use. Our instructor in Holy Bible Institute had said the CC (Catholic Church) was "not a cult, but a non-Christian sect". No offense aimed at you personally but I still tend to disagree with him. But either way, the CC has veered very far from the true Gospel -- as many Protestants have done.
I don't want to leave it that without giving you a reason why. I could offer a number of reasons, and I do not say that to be mean. it is just how it is.
Let me pick one, perhaps the central one: In doctrine and practice the CC indicates the work of Christ is insufficient for immediate and total salvation.
1 John 1:9 to 2:2 has, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 ¶ My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."
First, bold and underline is not meant on my part to indicate yelling. Not saying you would think that but somebody else might.
Just: He is just because He paid the full complete penalty.
Cleanse: all unrighteousness
Advocate ... the righteous: Only Christ met the righteous requirements of the Father's righteousness.
Propitiation: The appeasing sacrifice for all.
Despite that verse and many others, the CC declares there is a place called purgatory. If one dies with venial sin, that is where they go until purged from that sin.
Now, I just thought of this, and maybe you have too. What if a true Christian sins, does not immediately confess and then dies, or, sins unknowingly and dies? I Jn 1:7 would address that, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." That is part of grace, but certainly is no license to sin.

JesusIsTops... a little hint to help you out. Most people here use 10 or 12 point font which still appears small. But if you click once anywhere on the page that is not a link or button, then hold down the CTRL key you can then push the + key as many times as you want to increase the page/print size to an acceptable viewing level. Similarly, the CTRL and - key will reduce the print size.

Ctrl-0 sets it back to where I had it, which makes everything at least 110% larger, somtimes 125%.

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
Converted from what? Many will say from death to eternal life, flesh to spirit. Others will say from non-believers to believers. How many consider what Jesus commanded? From following our own will to following the will of God instead. A complete turn around in nature.
Something cannot be blotted out if first one does not change to something else. Otherwise the blotting would remove the entire person.

Just when you think you heard everything..... www.newsweek.com/minnesota-eric-sprankle-virgin-mary-impregnated-without-consent-minnesota-1248801?fbclid=IwAR2hpNhk1r47ho4-EPOelDkzoUXSmYuBap4ZZ6WPLZrYbeiL_qdj0wVt2ZUGod wrongfully impregnated teenage Virgin Mary without consent says Minnesota professor. "So apparently God sexually assaulted Mary. This is a professor of psychology(!) at an American university. This is the mentality that's become pervasive on our campuses. "The virgin birth story is about an all-knowing, all-powerful deity impregnating a human teen. There is no definition of consent that would include that scenario. Happy Holidays." Talk about opening one's mouth without first doing a little reading. Not only does this demonstrate a blatant ignorance of scripture (Mary did give consent - Luke 1:38) but imagine being an evangelical Christian student in this guy's classes. How would you be feeling about your ability to speak out, to freely express your views and not suffer consequences for doing so?" ~ Rocky Mountain Black Conservatives

I was thinking the same thing, and was going to even post it, but changed my mind.
It must be in their drinking water.
I was thinking about "Baby It's Cold."

Luke 14: 26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Another simple example of the message Jesus proclaimed over and over by way of His Gospel of the Kingdom about how we are to follow the will of God rather than the will of man.
Coming to Jesus means leaving behind the will of man, for Jesus only promotes and follows the will of God. One leaves behind those who do not accompany those who come to Jesus and the will of God. If family does not follow then so be it, but we now must hate the will/ways of mankind which are the cornerstone of human life as it is/was for ourselves. We must hate who we were also.
Do we still maintain a love for our family? Yes, but not for how they behave. Wrong will. If we still love their values, we are idolizing the wrong will... just as mankind who idolizes the will of man cannot follow the will of God.
Rejection of the will of man is our cross to bear while in this world. The reaction of the world of man against our rebellion to their system of self, nails us to that cross.
Conflict of the wills... man's vs God's
Matthew 10: 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

I might add that theologians would have us focus on sins (which are the result of the will of man). To whose advantage is this? Who gets the business of addressing all these sins? Who gains?
Jesus simply told us to focus on the will of God, loving neighbour as self. That way the sins clear themselves up without addressing them individually. No need for a middle man. God is not an entrepreneur.

This post caught my attention just now.
Michael Frear
This is for all you educated people that think uneducated people are dumb. Let's see how this works out for you and your family if this country keeps pushing for socialism. CRITICAL LIFE LESSON . "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?"..
There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist regime. In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked: "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?"
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke. "You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free food".
"When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence". "They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side". "The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd". "Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity."
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America . The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare entitlements, medicine, drugs, etc., while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time as the government forces us to participate in many of these programs whether or not we want to.
One should always remember two truths: There is no such thing as a free lunch, and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself. If you see that all of this wonderful government "help" is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to share this with your friends. God help us all when the gate slams shut!
Quote for today: "The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are now outnumbered by those that vote for a living."
