Here's a thread for those that would like to post something from the Holy Bible (only Genesis to Malachi OT, Matthew to Revelation NT) that "jumped out" at them. When I say "those" I primarily mean those who personally know Christ as Savior or at least have enough respect to treat the Holy Bible for what it is -- the very Word of God -- and not something that a group feels needs to be re-written to conform to their religious agenda, especially the cults. Post something from your devotions, research, or from another Christian (again, no cults). I will make the first post in a minute or so.
Just below this line is something to start with...
I just ran a search on the phrase "the righteousness of God" in the Holy Bible in the AV. It is very interesting to see it never occurs as such in the OT, but it does occur 8 times in the NT:
Ro 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Ro 3:5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
Ro 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Ro 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Ro 10:3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Jas 1:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
2Pe 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

The following just "struck" in a recent Holy Bible study in church. In Ex. 32, after Aaron makes the golden calf and the Jews worship it, God tells Moses He would wipe them out and start a new nation with Moses. Moses immediately intercedes with YHVH. A whole lot can be said about the entire exchange, but for tonight let me just focus on this, what Moses said to God (verse 13):
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, 'I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.
When we look back at God's promises in this regard to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel), we see there were times God said "as the sand of the sea", "as the dust of the earth", and also "stars of the heavens". Personally, I think Moses was being moved upon by the Holy Spirit in his intercession. When I taught on the stars verse in Genesis I suggested because of their distance they were the descendants of Israel far into to future, the spiritual descendants through Christ.
So, Moses, probably Spirit led, said "stars". Now, had God would have wiped out all the Jews and started Moses there would be no descendant for the flesh of Christ. Moses was of the tribe of Levi. Messiah would come from Judah. So I feel Moses was Spirit led to choose "stars".
Now, God knew all along Moses would intercede in such a way. But, of course, Moses months back had no idea he would take such a stand. So Moses had to be brought to this point to further mature in YHVH.
May we, too, be Holy Spirit led in prayer, praying based upon God's wonderful attributes (e.g., "Oh Father, You ARE merciful") and promises.

Matthew 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
Would more practice what Jesus taught above if they wouldn't judge a site by it's lack of an ignore button or use it if it had.

Ephesians 5:11 . . .
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
reprove, per James Strong:
1) to convict, refute, confute
1a) generally with a suggestion of shame of the person convicted
1b) by conviction to bring to the light, to expose
2) to find fault with, correct
2a) by word
2a1) to reprehend severely, chide, admonish, reprove
2a2) to call to account, show one his fault, demand an explanation
2b) by deed
2b1) to chasten, to punish

Mark 6:1-6. How people did not respect Jesus in his home town. How do we treat people today? Is there someone we know who has more to offer than we allow?

"Oddly" enough, the terms "sin/s", "iniquity / iniquities", and "transgression/s" occur together in SEVEN verses of the Holy Bible. Here they are:
Ex 34:7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
Le 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
Job 13:23 How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
Ps 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Isa 59:12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;
Eze 21:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.
Da 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

An example why God said not to eat certain things. Their design is to absorb toxins, not serve as food. Take note of all toxin eaters in nature, many eaten everyday by man as the desire for profit increases and the available good food diminishes. We are affected by what we eat. I wonder, would the OT if written today also include processed foods? ...link

I heard it said that sometimes we try to read too much into what the scriptures or verse is saying instead of just taking God's word at its face value.
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over."
So he went in to stay with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" -- Luke 24:13-16, 28-32 (NIV)
The men did not recognize who Jesus was until He sat down with them and took bread, gave thanks, broke it and gave it to them ... then their eyes were open and He disappeared.
The apostle Paul meant what he said in Hebrews: Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. -- Hebrew 13:2 (KJV)
God bless!

I heard it said that sometimes we try to read too much into what the scriptures or verse is saying instead of just taking God's word at its face value. Imo, if we something other than "face value" what we see should line up with the rest of Holy Scripture.
The Holy Scriptures are so bursting with truth there usually is more than face value in many passages. Anymore, is see more and more passages whose face value is not prophetic, but do carry additional meaning going into the prophetic.
Few years back I had to think of John 3:1-2a, "There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night ...".
As we know, the earlier balance of John 3 speaks of being born again, which, in itself has a twofold meaning due to the Greek: Born a second time and born from above. For years I took at face value the fact Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, came by night to Jesus. But then the word "night" kept rolling around in my mind. Had to think of "the night comes when no man can work." Most of us feel that is the Great Trib. A main purpose of the GT is to have the remnant Jews get saved. So now I consider Nicodemus coming by night to Jesus to also be prophetic in that it hints to the remnant Jews coming to Christ due to the GT.

"Imo, if we something other than "face value" what we see should line up with the rest of Holy Scripture."
What I have seen throughout the years is Christians posting chapter and verses out of the Bible, but yet it's out of context and when this happens the quoting of the Bible is being misread as to the full meaning. Sure if you read 10 verses before and 10 after you may get a better understanding, but reading one of the books in whole, might even change a person's mind, as to what they think they know.
I can tell a very well reader of the Bible when a person can tell a story in whole from something they've read in the Bible. I haven't really seen this done with most Christians posting in the Christian thread section or for that matter on gasbuddy.
For example many people would believe the animals went in the ark two by two, but they would be misinformed. Yes, some of them went in 2 by 2, but the dirty animals had a different amount of animals going onto the ark compare to the clean animals.
This is just a small sample of what I'm talking about.
So if I was to talk about this as a whole story and not include chapter and verses, some Christians would be highly insulted, but yet I'm just going off the top of my head remembering what I've heard and read from the Bible. It's not like I couldn't go back and retrieve a chapter or verse if I was asked nicely, but no I see some Christians get highly upset instead of trying to have a dissent conversation as to how someone has come up with maybe a different answer then themselves.
In the pass some Christians have considered the Catholic religion an occult. I am a Catholic which many if not all know by now. It has been a hot topic in the pass and it seems it still is. I think you are aware of it also, but I just want to check to make sure if I am welcome here.
You made mention here in your topic: "When I say "those" I primarily mean those who personally know Christ as Savior or at least have enough respect to treat the Holy Bible for what it is -- the very Word of God -- and not something that a group feels needs to be re-written to conform to their religious agenda, especially the cults."
I would also like to know if you feel I am from an occult because of being Catholic?
Thank you for your understanding.
You know I would really like to see us all getting along, but as I've seen just recently some Christians hold grudges for over 10 plus years and with these type of grudges that they are holding comes hate.
I pray we can change this and all come together.

Greetings sissurf
Instead of hitting the quote button, I am going to do it the "old" way. like >>...<<. It's a little easier for me. Also, a larger font as I type so it is easier for me to see.
>>I would also like to know if you feel I am from an occult because of being Catholic? Thank you for your understanding. <<
"Occult" is something else, and what I got into after I left the Roman Catholic Church in my heart.
"Cult" is a term I think most use. Our instructor in Holy Bible Institute had said the CC (Catholic Church) was "not a cult, but a non-Christian sect". No offense aimed at you personally but I still tend to disagree with him. But either way, the CC has veered very far from the true Gospel -- as many Protestants have done.
I don't want to leave it that without giving you a reason why. I could offer a number of reasons, and I do not say that to be mean. it is just how it is.
Let me pick one, perhaps the central one: In doctrine and practice the CC indicates the work of Christ is insufficient for immediate and total salvation.
1 John 1:9 to 2:2 has, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 ¶ My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. "
First, bold and underline is not meant on my part to indicate yelling. Not saying you would think that but somebody else might.
Just: He is just because He paid the full complete penalty.
Cleansing: all unrighteousness
Advocate ... the righteous: Only Christ met the righteous requirements of the Father's righteousness.
Propitiation: The appeasing sacrifice for all.
Despite that verse and many others, the CC declares there is a place called purgatory. If one dies with venial sin, that is where they go until purged from that sin.
Now, I just thought of this, and maybe you have too. What if a true Christian sins, does not immediately confess and then dies, or, sins unknowingly and dies? I Jn 1:7 would address that, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. " That is part of grace, but certainly is no license to sin.
...
I have no grudge on this forum (or the previous one), but greatly value what little time I might have left. What I don't like is the venue. Anyone can stick their nose into a conversation like this. For now, on this matter, unless the Holy Spirit nudges me otherwise, I will just respond to you (on this matter) if you have any further dialogue. However, it might get to annoying point where I might say "Sissurf, I will respond to you by PM". I have to weigh that by the direction of the Holy Spirit.
On the other hand, this particular grade of forum response is far better than what we had on GB. We can easily increase font, use bold, underline, and even color code.

In my opinion this is where the early gentile church and later versions let the Gospel of the Kingdom down. It focused on individual sins rather than on the big picture, missing out that ALL those sins were the result of man following our own will rather than God's. The end result is what appeared to be a diversion away from the original sin which was putting our will ahead of the Father's.
Simplification avoided. Avoided in order to make the church as yet another human institution essential (and later especially as a ally of government) and keep the world from recognizing the two wills and in turn possibly making a choice, thus weakening the human power structure. One way of life following God's will over the other of man would drastically reduce the fragile hold 'authourity' holds over all mankind.
Those who recognize the Father's will as being superior to anything man comes up with, will perhaps never get it right in daily life , but will hopefully endeavour to live life putting His will first having recognized our way is useless. The rest will carry on self justifying their misdeeds by reinventing what is good and evil or simply blaming an outside evil force to avoid responsibility.
This is not to say religion itself is bad, but that there are two forces at work within it as in everything else. One serves the will of man, the other the will of God.
If the church had taught that from the beginning without the misdirection, it would be more obvious now and people would be more discerning. Instead of division between man's ideals it would be division between wills, God's and man's. Christianity may as a result have changed the world, but of course God knew that would take a second coming as man's greed is so predictable.
This all also applies to each denomination within. I recently posted editorials by Catholic priests in the News thread where they had a firm grasp on the Gospel of the Kingdom and loving neighbour as self as a way of life. Yet many articles by their counterparts are political in nature trying to maintain the power they think they have over the people as was the concept in the beginning of gentile manipulation. There are even two 'parties' in the Catholic church. So this is neither defending or condemning the Catholic church or any other denominations. It is simply saying some have it right, many have it wrong within all denominations and unfortunately in most cases man's will rules over God's.
Anyway, according to God it is not only the confession, but first that is a realization that we need to make for ourselves that our self serving nature is the only cause of all the troubles in the world. Why do so many ignore the simple command that Jesus made to love neighbour as self which would eradicate any such self serving evils we commit and eliminate our 'enemies' if we befriend rather than antagonize them . Easy. They either like greed or are afraid to be seen as rebellious to man's system.
I often reflect this time of year on the group of British and German troops who called a self induced truce in order to spend Christmas eve together in WWI, sharing food, singing carols and loving neighbour as self. What was the psychological damage done to them the next day when they returned to killing friends on either side made the night before, both sides being friends of Christian persuasion?
What if they had realized they could have made a choice to follow the will of God rather than man from that moment on, even though the system may very well have killed them for it as being traitors to the values of man. We know the scripture about killing the flesh but not the soul. Which is more important. Why do people so value this 'adversarial to God' life that man has made. Yes the non-human aspect of the world God made is beautiful, but now only a step along the way, and we were commanded to learn a simple lesson to get beyond it.

To add to Tim's two last paragraphs...
1 John 4:8 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
John 3:16 16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Just now at George P. Bush's funeral they read from 1 Corinthians.
It was also read at my own father's funeral by my mother.
Romans 13:10 10Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
I too recall how two enemies made truce one Christmas night.
What if during that special night of 1914, they carry out what they felt in their hearts; instead of a higher power not of the Lord telling them what to do? The look on each president's face would be priceless never mind on the faces of the people.
