My nephew-cum-landlord gave me a bag of Vietnamese oolong a couple of months ago. I was indifferent about it because I grew up drinking oolong with my father for years -- a case of familiarity breeds contempt. Until today. As in right now. It's actually very good, better than the first 2/3 of the bag. It could've been a slight difference in either water temperature or length of brewing. Whatever the cause, I'm having a very good cup of tea and heading for the second cup in a minute.

Red, I did know that the cc companies did that. Some have a shorter period than others and I think it only happened to me once years ago at Target. It's nice that you daughter is able to do that for you. I know that there are people who do all their banking on line but this is the first I've heard of anyone making a deposit with the app. I still go to the bank for the odd deposit or to get cash. I like the tellers there and one went to the same high school and graduated several years before me so we chat. I haven't used the ATM for a while because I find that I like to talk to a person. I think the difference with my bank is that 8 percent of it's owned by the employees. I've yet to find a teller there or at another of their branches that isn't curteous and friendly. If I can't make it there after work, I can always get there Saturday morning. I just noticed your new avatar.

Red, glad you're enjoying the tea. I've been enjoying the tea my neighbor gave me from Sri Lanka, even though it's very finely cut. But I'm not a connoisseur and don't pay attention to the temp or timing. I've been putting a bunch in my little bamboo basket and then pouring a cup or two, usually just as concentrate, adding more hot water, then I make the rest, which is very strong, into iced tea.
I had that happen quite a few times in the past with store credit cards, but I don't think I've ever had a credit balance long enough on a bank or general card. I've seen people deposit checks on their phones like that. Maybe just on t.v. in ads. I don't do any more financial transactions than absolutely necessary on the internet. No banking. I go into the branch or use the night deposit. I think I'm going to go back to using VISA again so I can pay that way, too. Or if I need to I can still pay by phone from my checking account. The "hard" part is that I've been using one checking account for paying on the phone and it's not the one that money goes automatically in to, so it takes some planning. I like the free coffee when they're open.
If you have sensitive documents you want shredded, TCF will accept it if their bin isn't full. I've been member of a credit union for umpteen years, but don't use it any more b/c there are none convenient to me. But I can't think of any that are owned by employees. That's cool, too.

goldie, It's Bremer that's part employee owned. The city I live in has a shredding event that they hold every year. There's a limit to how much you can bring (2 bags or 1 box) and this year I missed it because I had to work. I usually shred it at home when it piles up...which it has again.

This is especially for RED, but I hope others might enjoy them, too. "Photographs of Abandoned Homes Above the Arctic Circle" in Norway. I think they are visually stunning, but also very powerful emotionally. I particularly resonate with them b/c what she did, using photography as part of her healing journey, I did also. The more times I've looked at them the more I see in them and the more emotions they bring up, including tears. I can really identify with the feelings she expressed through those photos.
And I found a face in the first one -- not right away, and not before the emotions hit me and brought me to tears. Can you see it? It's all the way on the left, in the mountain just above the tree line and below the pointy peak. He looks like a dark skinned man with a hat and sunglasses on, semi-profile. Fun! Another time I'll have to go through the rest to see who else might be lurking in them.
I'd like to find a website and some way to contact her. But I don't have my photos online to show anybody, except for a very few, and I don't have them watermarked, so don't want to make them available to the whole wide world. I've hoped to do that someday. But I'd like to correspond with her, if she's open to it.
I bet she's an environmentalist. I'm curious to see if I'm right. I don't see how you can feel that kind of connection between nature and your own body without realizing that what happens to one affects the other.
I'd welcome comments from any of you who view them. I invite you to take some time and really get into them. Or maybe that's just me. ?? The sad thing is that next week, or maybe even in a few days I might forget about them. Hope not. Part of it's my memory and another part is information overload from the 'net.

goldie, Those pictures are really interesting. I didn't see the face in the first one even when I looked. I think that the second to the last one looks like it's a tar paper shack so I'm guessing it was used for fishing.

I can't see a face either, Goldie. Photography is arts and arts appeal to people in different ways. I'm glad that her photos have touched you so profoundly.
I've been above the Arctic Circle 3 times (twice to Norway and once to Iceland) for a total of almost 4 weeks. The farthest north we've been to was Tromso (69th parallel N.), 550 miles above Scandinavia (62nd parallel N.) where she took those photos. I've seen similar landscape, sensed the similar somber mood all around me, and taken similar photos (although nowhere near her level) so my reaction was the mundane "We've been there", or "It looks like something we've seen."
Sorry.
Her website is www.bybrittm.com/ if you want to contact her.
BTW, citizens and residents of Nordic countries are, almost all of them, environmentalists. It's in their blood.

Neptune is very bright tonight, and since rising, has been right in front of our balcony, not moving anywhere.

Red, That's neat that you are able to see it. For whatever reason, and I have no idea where I first read it years ago but I can remember Neptune and Pluto "changng" orbits". Considering that I never watched or read sci-fi stuff, I assume it was something that I read in the paper or saw on a newscast back in the late 70's. Another bit of useless trivia taking up valuable space in my brain. lol

Goldie -- I see newly posted comments every time I open the blog (indicated by the red number above my name), even if the comment is for a very old post. It's the same for you, except that you only see comments that arrive after you, on any post that you commented upon. I see everyone's comments as soon as they post them because I check the blog daily.

I wanted to write something to bump up this thread, but am in more of a contemplative mood, rather than chatty. Have had two big mugs of tea and thinking about another. This summer I bought a double walled glass mug and have been using that b/c it stays hot longer. It's just a cheap one from World Market, a knock-off, I assume, of the original Bodums. Or maybe even made by them w/o their name? They are handmade, b/c in the store it could be seen that each one was a bit different. When double walled glass is used for cold drinks, no condensation forms on the outside to make a mess.
Pouring my hot water today I was reminded of Red's search for a new electric teakettle of her preferred make and model. Did you find one that is accessible to you where you are? I'm not fussy about temp, and was rushing to make it to drink while watching a livestream that had already started. So just grabbed a Newman's Own Organic tea bag. Not the best tea, but ok. It was that or Twinings, which might not have been even that good. Both were close at hand. I've been brewing it lately from the Ceylon tea my Sri Lankan neighbor gave me. Although it's very fine (ie, not whole leaves) and probably somewhat old, it's good tea. She said it comes straight from the factory. I make it very strong and then dilute with hot water, or make some into ice tea. It's supposed to get bitter when it's left to steep indefinitely (as I tend to do) but I don't notice that. Maybe I like bitter, or just don't have a very discerning tongue.
Red, thanks for the explanation about the comments.

Yes, I bought a similar one in Singapore in January, but it's much clunkier so I wasn't excited about it, but it does the job.
Leaving for the airport in a couple of hours. This time tomorrow, we'll be in Cairns. One of my nieces and her bf were in the country for 2 weeks (from CA). They were here just for one night, last night, just to see us.

Today is Cocopaz' birthday. I think she's only looking at he Trader Joe's and Santa Barbara forums until after her trip, in case you want to greet her.

Thank you for letting us know, Goldie. I don't have a way to know anyone's bday anymore.
Sent her a text with a grinning bitmoji saying Happy Birthday.
