Texas based Frito-Lay controls the chip business in the United States with almost 70% of the market. Fortunately for Pennsylvania, they are far from dominating in our state. In fact Pa. leads the U.S. in potato chip production. There's a good reason for that. Pa. has more potato chip companies east of the Mississippi than all the states combined. So lets hear it for our chips. Please give brand and location if possible.

Never knew this. What is the PA "brand" of which you speak? The only "local" brands of which I'm familiar is Brim's. I don't buy chips (or related products) often but have found Aldi "brand" just as good as the rest. YMMV.

Kay And Ray’s. Good's, Dieffenbach's, Zerbe's, Snyder's, Martin’s. Bickel’s. Troyer. Middleswarth. Hartley’s & Gibbles, just to name a few. The big three of Pennsylvania chips, the only ones that went national: Herr’s, Utz, and Wise. All of them can be found in one little stretch of Pennsylvania.
The best chip I ever had were Good's which can only be found in & around Lancaster County. They are fried in 100% lard, cholesterol & trans fat free. Lard gives chips a flavor you can't find in vegetable oil. There's another even smaller company called Zerbe's that is almost as good & they use lard. UTZ is unique as they use different oils in many of their chips. Cottonseed oil is used for their regular chips while lard is used for their Grandma UTZ brand. Lard chips are also less greasy so it's a win-win

Guess I'll dump all my points & not worry about it. You buying the beer if we stop in Clarion on way home I'll buy but I'm only allowed 2 beers per week & I had to beg my Doctor for that. I'm on a blood thinner for the blood clots. One is in my lungs.

Gotta go with Gibbles. One of the few chips that are still fried in lard.... Yummy yum yum. Top shelf chips!

I have seen the WISE brand at Big Lots in Missouri. Wise is the oldest Pa. potato chip company that I remembered as a kid in the 60's. It was the only brand I saw for years.
