Introducing the new optional forum game: LindTheForumBroker
Four basic commands:
BALANCE - see how much money you have (or how far you're in the hole) and what shares you own.
QUOTE TICKER - report how much the current share price is
BUY shares TICKER - buy shares
SELL shares TICKER - sell shares
The REPORT TICKER[,TICKER[,TICKER]...] command still works as before. I think only sneakers uses it. The last posted REPORT command is used to print the daily stock report (unrelated to the game). Up to ten tickers can be reported, which is reported with a set of hard coded options.
Everyone starts with $0. You as a registered user of GBO can borrow up to $10000. The guest user cannot borrow money, it's there only for testing purposes. The goal is to ... well, go positive and still own shares by buying and selling stock.
Note that it is very possible to lose your shirt and go severely negative to a point where you can't play anymore, you'll need to "declare bankruptcy" to me and perhaps your debt will be forgiven along with any shares you still have (i.e. reset your account.)
There is no taxes or brokerage fees to worry about like in real life.
This is a very basic buy/sell program. You can only trade equities handled by IEX.
The game does not support puts or options. Orders are all executed at market value - you can't order stop or GTC
Bugs:
- If the stock splits, you lose big.
- If the stock merges, you win big.
- Company divestiture? You Lose.
- Merger? You win, unless a new ticker is created, then you lose big time.
- Acquisition? You win most likely.
Not sure how to handle these problems at this point, need to see how I can know about these things by software...
I suspect there will be a lot of bugs, I can foresee some that will show up. If they do show up I may discontinue this game...
Current REPORT hard coded tickers that will always be displayed are:
AAPL,IBM,HPQ,INTC,AMD,MSFT,ORCL,TSM,TXN,WDC
