Came up with at least a semi-automated method to build up a static quote list (build a watch list in my broker's watch list function, export it to a computer readable CSV file, massage the CSV file to HTML, and post it here. Haven't done it end-to-end, but it's a matter of getting off surfing the web to making code to do the massaging functions.

Figured out this afternoon that I can group the stocks arbitrarily. I will likely categorize them. Haven't yet written the functionality to massage the data into an BBCode text file I can cut and paste. Might do it as a Word macro. Wrote a Word macro at work to partially autogenerate a document but that was ten years ago!

Been working on my VBA macro tonight. I don't think I've written a VBA macro in at least ten years. I now can parse the data into separate variables, now I need to figure out how to write it in BBCode format. Probably about a third done.

This project is on the back burner for me. About the time I started doing the VBA macro, I went through a stretch in September and October where I was bouncing in and out of hospitals. First surgical treatment for an enlarged prostate (I had the UroLift procedure), which was a success by my urologist's metrics. Then, an ear infection. Finally, a mild case of pancreatitis (I had the metabolic derangements of pancreatitis and I had an elevated temperature, I was nauseated, I had a belly ache, and I was covered with sweat). Have other tasks in my retiree's to-do list. My home office (the "business room" though I don't really do any business in it) needs cleaning. My bedroom needs to be cleaned.

Interesting distraction on the computer now: an Ada toolchain. So far, I’ve written a “Hello, World!” program and printed the numbers from 1 to 9 inclusive on the screen. I am probably equally rusty on all languages but I have fifteen years of experience with Ada. Though only a little experience with I/O. Most of the Ada programming I did was bit banging on the International Space Station.

The things I can think of to do on the computer expand to fill all waking hours. I've been cleaning up genealogical data. I had four types of data (living in a certain place, military service, being elected to an office, or being appointed to a position) reduced to "Event" and a date and place by a piece of genealogy software that could not distinguish between the above categories. Fortunately, I have a genealogical database with all the types of data correct and a printout of what needs to be fixed (28 pages). So it's essentially copy and paste operations. I'm also cleaning up the place references as I go. They seem to have a lot of spurious commas in place names.

Went out and sold three of my four losing stocks yesterday. Decided to reinvest the proceeds in the FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google) stocks. My stockbroker (Schwab) now supports investment in fractional shares of stock given a dollar amount.
