See if we can get a discussion going here. Does you school have a dress code for teachers? If so, what is it. Or do they have a uniform for teachers?

No dress code for teachers or students at my present schools. Was at a Title I school for many years that did have a dress code for students. Behaviors improved tremendously!! Staff often talked about implementing a dress code, but that would never fly with the union. Principals in each school determine what they will allow for staff (tattoos visible or covered, spaghetti straps covered or not, etc.). The only district-wide admonition is that leggings are NOT pants!! LOL

I am pretty sure teachers are at least as excited for the end of school as the students. Do your teachers and students have the same last day? We don't. Teachers work one more day after students leave. Here we come, June 18th!

Regarding school dress codes.
So some of my tenants were talking about a female elementary school teacher and sports coach that they said looked and dressed like a porn star.
The wife was going on about her tattoos, body and clothing.
A few weeks later they stopped by to drop off their rent payment and my girlfriend (the teacher they were talking about) answered the door in her bikini as we were heading out to going boating, cliff diving and waterskiing.
The looks on their faces - Priceless!

Speaking of leggings, some of my daughter's classmates often wear beige colored leggings that make them look like they're naked from a distance.
Two students were recently given sweat pants to wear over their leggings since their leggings were light colored, paper thin and almost see-through.

The HS where I taught for 34 years went from a no-jeans, dresses only for girls and slacks for men to pretty much anything goes.

Judging by the countless poorly dressed job, rental and credit applicants I encounter, they haven't learned to "dress for success" in school.

Oh, that's because we can't stifle their individual self-expression and risk causing "irreparable" harm to their snowflake psyches by instituting common sense dress codes. Teaching today's teens real life skills? And some of the outfits I see on staff don't make the job any easier. I'm hoping some of them are planning to go straight from work to the club, because there is NO EXCUSE for some of the outfits I see on young (and not-so-young) staff members. Guess I am showing my age and Catholic school upbringing, but there should definitely be limits set, for both students and staff!! ok, rant over.

So true in so many schools, but some are coming around to uniforms or strict dress codes.Teaching today's teens real life skills? And some of the outfits I see on staff don't make the job any easier. Guess I am showing my age and Catholic school upbringing, but there should definitely be limits set, for both students and staff!! When i started in the 60's, for men it was white shirts and ties. Looked like Mormon missionaries. And here in south Texas, we had no A/C at that time. Ex-wife had to wear a dress teaching elementary school. That included playground duty in the wind as well as standing outside before and after school escorting children to and from the school bus. ok, rant over.

Today is my girlfriend's last day of teaching for the school year.
Two of my sisters and one of my nieces are teachers as well. Despite some working other jobs and/or running businesses, all are happy that school's out for summer!

I am in Maryland. Our state legislature had a bill last year to limit testing to no more than 2% of the total time kids are in school, but even that is a lot. I don't think it included testing mandated by the district to see if the students are "prepared" for the national exams. There's just wayyyyy too much testing. And my students are a sub-group that has to take an extra 4-5 hours of standardized testing annually to see if their English language skills are improving. I love the teaching part, but cringe when January and May roll around. I spend about 9-10 weeks of instructional time doing nothing but standardized tests. How will my students improve if I can never see them?? Ok rant over! Yes, way too much. Welcome.

As school starts again, please consider in your thoughts and prayers those students in southeast Texas that are returning to what they hope will be a normal school year. Last year, their plans were disrupted by Hurricane Harvey. Many are still not back in their homes. Others are starting in a new school as they have moved from their old neigjhborhood.
