With the trade deal going bad, my 401 K took a hit. The GOP in the Texas Legislature has sat on their hands when it comes to fixing teacher retirement (under funded for 15 years and as a result no COLA for more than 17). Neither my Democratic Congressman or the two Republican Senators favor abolishing the WEP which denies Texas (and other state) teachers from getting their full Social Security they may have earned elsewhere. Nor was there any mention by the two major P Presidential Candidates in 2016. At this point, for my own selfish interest, I refuse to vote for either party in the next General election. I hope other teachers will join with me in seeking candidates that will support teachers by their actions, not their words.

While I appreciate your effort, not voting for either of the major political parties is just a waste of time. There are far, far too many for them to notice <1% not voting for them.
I understand your frustration but the Democrats have a much better 'overall' platform on education that what the right and DeVos have been driving us towards, although clearly as you demonstrate an imperfect one.

Both parties in Texas seem to have put education on the back burner. Also, the Demos primaries keep nominating the same do nothing politicians. Here in South Texas, most voters are concerned about their welfare benefits than education. Others choose candidates by who had the best BBQ party the week before election. In good conscious, I cannot vote for these people. I understand my 1% does not have much effect.

Sounds like a culture problem in the region - I have found that politicians are simply a reflection of their voters. The politicians will change when the voters change...

South Texas is predominately Hispanic. Being an anglo married to a Hispanic I know something about the culture and it is true. The elimination of straight ticket voting in 2020 may bring about some change. Hopefully it will eliminate the re-election of politicians under indictment or on trial. But another issue is to get teachers registered and voting.

Now it is 3 1/2 days and 1 1/2 days. One year I missed the 4 days with jury duty. Great start to the year.
