Oklahoma teachers in the third day of their strike. Governor says they are like teenagers wanting a new car. What do you think?

I am a retired elementary music teacher. Although 7 years were in Tennessee, the other 26 were in the Houston and Dallas areas.

Well, isn't that something!?! I had never heard of Dingus Day before. More proof that even old geezers can learn new things!

Welcome rigimp and divakatana. Sorry to be late, was busy over the weekend. Dingus Day sounded interesting when I accidentally came across it in You Tube. Yes us older types can learn something if we open our minds. Rigimp, love music and glad to see a fellow Texan.

Back from a wedding weekend in San Francisco, CA. So much different from south Texas. Flight back yesterday was an adventure. SF to LAX, plane change and breakfast. Then stops in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston before exiting aircraft in Harlingen TX.

Hello everyone! Any public school teachers out there? It's testing season here, and I've been giving ridiculously hard standardized tests this week in elementary school, with lots more to go over the next month. How does your state "evaluate" student progress?

Hello everyone! Any public school teachers out there? It's testing season here, and I've been giving ridiculously hard standardized tests this week in elementary school, with lots more to go over the next month. How does your state "evaluate" student progress? Welcome to the board. It is testing season here in Texas also. Is that where you are from. Glad to be away from that part of teaching. I am in Maryland. Our state legislature had a bill last year to limit testing to no more than 2% of the total time kids are in school, but even that is a lot. I don't think it included testing mandated by the district to see if the students are "prepared" for the national exams. There's just wayyyyy too much testing. And my students are a sub-group that has to take an extra 4-5 hours of standardized testing annually to see if their English language skills are improving. I love the teaching part, but cringe when January and May roll around. I spend about 9-10 weeks of instructional time doing nothing but standardized tests. How will my students improve if I can never see them?? Ok rant over!
