If you haven't noticed, the powers that be at GasBuddy LLC have deleted the link to create a new story. Also, in a related "feature," some of the stories that do exist won't let you add your comments to them.
Deliberate sabotage by GasBuddy LLC? Or did we fill all the existing storage and this is the default error handling?

After killing off the forums, it looks like GasBuddy is eliminating GasBuddy News and Blog

They were removed due to constant mis-use of news submissions for political agendas by a few users. The GasBuddy Blog will not be eliminated, and I will post news as time allows.

Thanks for providing the information, PD. I'm glad it's not going away as quite a few of us feared when the new stories and the submission link just disappeared. There certainly was some abuse going on but the variety of articles available in Newsville was unmatched.

I noticed yesterday that it seemed no new articles were being added, just wondering why the site keeps going down hill.

I noticed yesterday that it seemed no new articles were being added, just wondering why the site keeps going down hill. The site isn't going downhill, we're changing with the times. 97% of our users didn't know the forums existed, and 1% of posts were more than 100 characters. Instead of these features being brought forward, a business decision was made to end the cost of development on them to put it towards something else. As for the news being removed, that was my call completely, based on a new fake user that posted spam political news. We're a free site, don't pity that model, but we do need to focus on things that support revenue and users, and news doesn't really do much of either. It was antiquated.

Why not just remove the few users?That's a longer discussion to get into, I agree with you on that, but I'm not the one who gets to make all the calls. I have to use what I have, sometimes making improvements isn't as simple as it sounds.

Wouldn't the solution be to set a minimum point level for submitting news? Similar to the way the MSL has a million-point threshold (which seems high, but okay).
btw, thanks for keeping the GB news going, at least in some fashion. Agree with you there, but that's putting more developer time into something that doesn't pay the bills. If the kitchen is on fire, this might be akin to fixing the fridge.

Having said that, I'm happy if one of you here consolidates your links to email me say 7 headlines per day and I will post...

Having said that, I'm happy if one of you here consolidates your links to email me say 7 headlines per day and I will post... Thanks for the opportunity, PD! I accessed the web archive from PDs old TBTU " News Posting Tips" topic (that when created on Sep 17, 2012 at4:07:43 PM was originally titled, "Newsville Updates"), the lead post of which had been edited by PD on 3/2/2015 at 10:38:45 PM to to state what GB was looking for in news submissions: Those can serve as the initial guidelines for submissions to PD.

pd , can we also suggest polls? The same polls have been rerunning for years.
Particularly amusing out-of-date ones;
- Did you travel more than 10 miles to view the August 21 total solar eclipse?
- What factor do you think will have the greatest influence on gas prices in 2018?
I'm not sure how they're set up right now, perhaps in the future we can loop back. SUV fan, or perhaps someone... can we start a GB News suggestions forum that has a thread per day with links from whoever? I'll try to review and post daily.

I'm not sure how they're set up right now, perhaps in the future we can loop back. I'd been thinking the same thing, GasHole. I was very active for years over there in the Poll Suggestion topics. Moderator CC (he called himself Charlie when he responded to PMs) was the one who would visit the thread nearly every Friday and pick up the week's suggestion, or choose among multiple ones when we couldn't reach a consensus. I'd be happy to, PD, but unfortunately the founder and sole administrator here, CampKohler, has the only set of keys but has not been active in quite some time. I've tried reaching out to him in every way I could think of and know GasHole and others have tried, too. So unless and until he were to wander back in, we're pretty much limited to the site organization he created. Fortunately, CK thought big and set up an expansive network of forums, including a very (to date) underused News forum. There is an existing Energy News Forum (no activity since July 4, 2018!) that might be a great place to host the suggestion threads. I think that's a much better option than this GasBuddy Board, which does see a good bit of use, comparatively anyway, and the news threads would quickly bury other discussions. Regardless, I'd suggest they be weekly threads (e.g., "News Article Suggestions for the week of June 14, 2020") instead of daily?
