Some of the beds are finally free of snow so I guess I can start cleaning them up.

Well my day lilies are starting to poke up some green leaves. And my tomato seeds have sprouted well.

I've transplanted most of the day lilies out of the flower bed where I am expanding the garden and they seem to be doing OK. My neighbor asked me for a few of them so I'm going to transplant a row to along the side of her house.

What tomato and pepper seed are you buying and from where? Well, I started buying seeds from www.seedsavers.org and www.rareseeds.com and that is where I still go when I want to try a new variety. Since I do heirloom varieties, I save my own seeds each year for the varieties I've already grown. For the two new types of pepper seeds, I got the seeds from my youngest. Now if you want the varieties I grow. This year for tomatoes I'll be planting the following: Tigerella, Dr Wyche's Golden, Wisconsin 55, Gezanhte, Dixie Golden Giant, Brandywine, Black Sea Man, Tommytoe, White Tomesol, Blue Beauty, Thornburn's Terra Cotta, Cosmic Eclipse, Amish Paste, Hungarian Heart, Large Barred Boar, Dark Galaxy, Black Cherry, Solar Flare, and Black Vernissage. Varieties of tomato seeds I have but am not planting this year are: Black from Tula, Black Brandywine, Chocolate Stripe, Black Beauty, Big Rainbow, John Baer, Redfield Beauty, and Juan Flamme. The peppers I either over wintered in the house or are starting new this year are: Green Bell, Jalepeno, Habenero, Cayenne, Bhut Jolokia (ghost chile), Carolina Reaper, 7 Pot Mustard, Moruga Scorpion, Naga Morich, and Trinidad Scorpion. If you want to buy live pepper plants and want to try a variety you don't normally seed in stores, try going to www.chileplants.com. (too late to buy seeds this year) If you order live plants, they do have a 6 plant minimum for shipping.

Good afternoon. Rained this morning, was windy with gusts. Presently sunshine, 13C/55.4F Clouds coming in over Mt. Arrowsmith so expecting more rain as per forecast.
Discovered Horsetails coming through the ground, proof it's been so wet. Get it back every year, impossible to eradicate... so! it looks great filling in the bare spots.
The buttercups have rooted everywhere again so I'm busy pulling, especially in the raspberry patch. My mulching last year didn't stop them. My rhubarb is ready for it's first pick! A stem dipped in sugar. The Oregano is already coming in big clumps, as is the Lemon Balm. The creeping Thyme I have in my front lawn is greening up and forming flower heads.
Am using vinegar to stop weeds sprouting in the gravel round the base of the house. It will deter any ants (I hope) which plagued me last year.
Have a great day. :-)
