Was fortunate enough to place first in the architecture category of a photography contest with the photo.

stlhawk, that's a beautiful photo. It's not a "straight" shot, or is it? Congratulations on your first place.

Caught this at sunset facing away from the sunset just before the skies opened up and poured rain. Got drenched getting back to my car. Cropped, adjusted exposure, contrast, highlights, and shadows in lightroom. Also did a little spot healing in the sky.

Just an old picture of my son taken with an old cell phone, but one of my favorites I saved from GB.

Stlhawk, yes, that's what I meant. Not "PhotoShopped" but basically the kinds of routine minor manipulations that were done in the old "wet darkrooms", and not digitally creating anything that wasn't there. I've never seen a sky like that, at least not around here. Maybe a long, long time ago in Southern California. And I've never seen a bridge anything like that.
It's a gorgeous shot. I just looked at it again and thought, "This should win a prize. Oh, wait, it did!" Well deserved. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I think everybody photoshops their images in this day and age, even if only for levels and such.

Yeah, that's why I tried to differentiate between "normal" darkroom enhancements and more extreme manipulation that essentially creates in the digital darkroom. Both are valid, but I like to know which I'm looking at. Maybe b/c I'm old school and my frame of reference is film photography.

Yes, that's why I prefer Lightroom, because it really wasn't designed to digitally add things, but simply to work with what's already there. While photoshop can create some amazing things, my personal preference is what you see when looking through the camera...

Thanks Norm. That's helpful for me to know. I feel like I have to go back to square one and relearn everything I knew about photography all over again.

Apart from composition, light and the like we all started on an even footing 20 years ago. I remember when a newspaper photographer turned his nose up at me and my shots at a fire because I was using a 1mb camera and he had just gotten the 2mb. lol
