My son took all the asparagus home with him. So it really matters not the price. He also took the ham leaving me 2 long slices. And gave me more of the potatoes than l wanted etc. But l don't like to keep too much as l tire of same ole leftovers. I don't like frozen ham. Stuffed full freezers we all have. Aren't we so fortunate? l see starving people in other countries again. As I understand it, I may not be able to eat the asparagus I started last year in my garden. I'm going to try it but my brother says it won't be ready to eat for another year. Disappointing in a way as I'm becoming quite a fan of it. I really disliked it a kid. I didnt do anything for Easter except go to mass. Was not in a good mood. My daughter always goes to her in laws place. I was invited but for some reason turned down their invite. Doing better now. Getting lots of snow today. Funny, I thought my neighbor Jack was kinda quick with his snowblower this morning as the more than three inches that have fallen since has melted on the driveway and his driveway is simply wet. Good move on his part. I'm going out to shovel and work off some of this funk I feel inside me now. It's a wet wet heavy snow so I'll get a good workout for sure! Hope everyone is well!

Hey, finally got set up. I kept forgetting my password. Can someone show me how to get a picture to represent me? Ceeline, I'm not well versed with this new site so hopefully I can get this right for you. Also, I'm using my iPad at the moment so understand when I say tap I mean click if you're on a computer. Go up to the top of this page and locate the button that says Profile. Tap on it and the find (directly to the right of your name) the Edit Profile button. Tap it and you should be able to take it from there. I used the Uploaded/Linked option to upload my Garfield image. Good luck

jrfan, I got home, parked on the street and snowblowed the driveway. Now it's all white again but at least it's not deep. I can't believe it's still snowing. I found this on how to grow asparagus. The part about harvesting is at the end of the article. They are correct that when you do finally harvest, you want to cut it about a half inch or so below the surface. We used to have an asparagus patch but it died out after about 35 years.

thanks dg for the article. I'll check it out next. I haven't done anything with the snow yet. In about 20 minutes though I'll be putting my snow shovel to work once again! Sounds like there's a hint of snow moving in this weekend, according to CCO radio. We'll see, it's a bit too far out for any accuracy in predicting this kind of stuff if you ask me.

I replied, but not posted l guess. Still learning all the ends and outs. Sorry you are in a funk junior fan, but l can understand. Not good news for you recently.
I on the otherhand had a great ultrasound. After 14 pics they decided there was no problem. Just an anomaly that bears watching.
I woke at 4 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, so got up at 5 and now it is 6:30 and l am just finishing email and starting on threads. Not much going on today anyway, unless l get a call for "Share the Care" to replace the batteries in my scooter. I can't lift them out of my trunk .. So called for volunteer program they have here in Napa for residents. So lucky.

Junior fan l recall when l planted asparagus (never got to enjoy as we sold the house) that it depended on age of your plants when planted. 2 years 3 years to harvest.

dg, your link does confirm not to harvest any asparagus until the third year as the roots need to develop fully, and if you harvest any of the stalks before the third year you're depriving the roots of the energy they need to grow deep. Something else I learned from your link was the male/ female issue of asparagus. Males produce more and females produce much less but produce the seed. Luckily, as I understand it, my plants are all male. I believe I'll add to my asparagus patch this season and dbl the size. And then maybe again next year although I'm not sure how much I'll eat and don't want to grow so much that I'll not eat it all. Although there are neighbors all around me who will take all my extras! I do like fresh asparagus and am looking forward to picking a bunch! Next year though! tru, I like your profile saying! Very true too!

Thank you junior fan, so is yours.
It took me 15 minutes but l found the profile saying l laughed at then really liked ..It is by Lacy Lady and is : hope she doesn't mind my repeating it:
"Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely, in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Smoke, what a ride!"
Agree?

Today the volunteer is coming at 11 a.m. to get the batteries from my car, one at a time, (he refuses to use my walker to carry both at once) and to install them in my scooter for me..then he said he'd take the old ones back to the store to recycle them. Now l can't ask for more than that can l? Those volunteers are just great, and l really appreciate their help, as my son is so far away and probably won't visit again til Mother's day. Scooter died right after son's last visit on Easter. I went to Target the very day after.

tru, It's wonderful that you have good volunteers in your area. Great that he is taking the old batteries to recycle. I can't believe it's april and the heat is still on full force here.
Hey jrfan.

I was reading some old newspapers earlier, and one had a front page article about the warm, spring weather, in the 60s, and there was a statement in it from meteorologist Paul Douglas declaring that winter was over. The date was March 5, 2015 or 2016. The latest update on my NOAA page is 13º with a windchill temp. of -3º.

WHOA those temps are making me cold even this far away. It is still raining here. Sounds light but steady. Forecast is showers.
I am supposed to pick up a couple of porch chairs today...or tomorrow l said. Just hope they fit in the car.
