How much worse is COVID19 versus Influenza?

YOU bet l am afraid. I am 89 and have a lung disease.
There are no real treatments. Aspirin for fever. There are no preventative vaccinations. There is no real testing to let us know where it is so we can avoid it.
Here is a quote from the Atlantic...Early guesstimates, made before data were widely available, suggested that the fatality rate for the coronavirus might wind up being about 1 percent. If that guess proves true, the coronavirus is 10 times as deadly as the flu.
So there is your comparison..TEN TIMES AS DEADLY AS THE FLU.

Did the USA drop the ball on COVID19?
I heard that South Korea had really good testing system for COVID19... and as of right now has a very low fatality rate because they can quickly isolate those who are ill with the disease. Granted they probably used what China used to detect, it seems to have helped.
What I wonder is how fast it mutates, whether it cannot be vaccinated against like the common cold; or strain limited, like influenza with several but distinct strains.

Yes it would be nice to have some answers, but you can't get info on it without testing, testing, testing. I say how can you expect an A if you don't take the quiz? So how can they tell me we have zero infected in my county if they have done zero testing? Quote:
About 1,039 people in the U.S. have been confirmed to have the virus, though many others cases may be undetected.
You mentioned south korea..they do 4,000 tests for every million people, the U.S. has done 15 per one million people. Last l heard. 20,000 cases? I thought I heard that this morning could that be possible when it was only a thousand of a day or two ago?

Thank you Dotot, so many newspapers put a block on my trying to read them. I have spent several minutes just now reading several of the pages and updating myself on info. It is a great site to keep informed, thanks again.

I live in Indiana and have a granddaughter who lives in the Bay area and works in San Francisco. I hope she will be able to work from home and not have to take the Transbay Tube to get to work. Stay safe everyone...

We just ordered our weekly food shopping to be delivered for two reasons: Stores keep running out of what we want, like milk and we just don't want to be in a crowded store right now. (I was in two stores earlier this week.) Have to be very careful what your believe as there is a lot of misinformation out there right now. CDC is a great resource. CDC.GOVMy local County Government is keeping us well informed also. With more and more places closing down it feels weird to me. However, a good time to get caught-up on things around the house. Worked in my butterfly garden today. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

I reported elsewhere l guess that the ordering delivery is swamped and not working even in some stores. Weeks wait for Safeway. Could starve by then.
Lots of volunteers but also fear of scammers. Us seniors are kinda in a tough spot.

Yes, us seniors are in a tough spot. Here in my area of FL many stores are having the first hour of the day just for seniors to shop. Some stores most days, others just one or two days a week. I was able to get our groceries delivered, well actually waiting right now for the delivery. Requested Friday and was able to get a Friday afternoon delivery.

Now that the governor has ordered that everyone stay in their homes if at all possible perhaps the virus will become more in control. I certainly hope so.
On the 13th I posted in this thread 1000 us cases it is now 17,000 in the u.s. in one week. Yes I am deeply concerned anyone with any Common Sense would be. Please all of you who are so Cavalier in your attitude please follow the rules. Be safe

Just wanted to make sure seniors to keep in mind, there are immune compromised younger people (cancer, organ failure/transplants, autoimmune disorders, etc.) that may be sharing the store with them during these special hours as they have the same worry of catching something when their WBCs aren't functioning well either.

Just this morning one of my younger neighbors offered to pickup items for me and another neighbor if we needed help right now. Said she would get the items when she did her own shopping once a week. Very nice of her to offer. The delivery service worked great so we are going to use it for the next few weeks. Cost more, but. . . Stay safe everyone
