Both the Downy and Red-Bellied Woodpeckers have been visiting my feeders a bit more often now. A fresh 3 inches of snow this past weekend made cleaning the feeders necessary.

The birds all sit around with their feathers all fluffed up to keep warm. It is -4F outside here, better than yesterday morning's -18F.

I have 3 robins in my backyard this morning; another sign of spring.

I had birds crash into my windows about 3 times in 10 minutes. Then a Junco hit the window in back and was on the deck. I checked, he was alive. About a half hour later, he was gone.

Since we have 8 inches of new snow, there have been many birds visiting the feeder now. And there were about a dozen Dark Eyed Juncos on the ground underneath on the spot I cleared out and seeded for the ground feeding birds.

The ice went out on the lakes last Thursday, and the Pelicans returned on Friday.
I am also watching for the Dark Eyed Juncos everyday, knowing that they will be leaving soon.
I saw some turkeys with their tail feathers all fanned out on Saturday. Almost ready to start dancing.

The Dark Eyed Juncos are still here. Canada Geese have staked out nesting areas; I better start watching for the little ones. The Goldfinches are turning color toward their spring-summer color.

I think the Goldfinches are in their full summer color now. The Dark Eyed Juncos still haven't checked out.

I have seen a few Great Blue Herons around. The Canada Geese are on their nests.

The Dark Eyed Juncos are still here. I had to leave the bird feeders empty to get rid of the Starlings that were hanging around. It worked.

The Dark Eyed Juncos are still here this morning. The chilly weather here might keep them around a bit longer, but we will see.

Yesterday morning, I only saw 2 of the Dark Eyed Juncos, and I have seen none today. I think they finally went north.

I put out my hummingbird feeders today. Yes, it is early, but it got up to 91F here in Albert Lea, MN today. If the heat does get them to come north, I want to be ready for them.

I still haven't seen a hummingbird, but the first Baltimore Oriole showed at our feeder this morning. It was a female. Late this afternoon, there were 2 males on the feeder. They are taking both the nectar and the grape jelly.

The hummingbirds have been hitting both nectar feeders hard this summer. I will be making another batch of nectar today and cleaning both feeders again.
Yesterday, a Coopers Hawk was sitting on the rail of my deck, buy flew up to my roof before I could get my phone and take a picture. I tried to get a shot of him up there, but spooked him.
