The hummingbirds pulled out of here over 10 days ago. Today I will be taking the feeders down and cleaning them and placing them away until next spring.

I noticed the Dark Eyed Juncos on the ground under my feeder last Thursday. They will be around until sometime next April.

A Blue Jay visited at my feeder yesterday. He didn't eat, just stopped, then took off. They like areas that are a bit more woodsy, instead of backyards like mine.

The robins were still hanging around. Maybe this snow will convince them to move on.

The robins do appear to be gone, leaving me with the usual types that hang around during winter. The sparrows, house finches, and goldfinches keep coming, with the occasional woodpeckers, and once in a while, a cooper's hawk shows up looking for a meal.

-13F this morning. In this cold, all the birds have been really hitting the feeders hard. There must be about a dozen sparrows that keep going back & forth from the feeder to their hideout in my bushes. Goldfinches, house finches, nuthatches, and chickadees take turns stopping for a morsel and move on, and downy and red-bellied woodpeckers visit the suet now & then.
I had Dark-Eyed Juncos, but wonder if the sparrows ran them off. I haven't seen one here for at least a couple of weeks.

The birds continue to visit my feeders, especially in the front yard. I have been filling it with sunflower hearts every other day.
Snow depth is now about 12 inches.

One big change recently; the cardinals are singing their spring song.
The recent thaw is making the snow depth drop a bit. Starting to see grass along the edge of my driveway.

The snow depth here is zero, just snowbanks and a few crusty drifts left. It is nice, but too early to say that snow cover is over for the season.
Starting to see starlings around, and lots of them at times. I might have to let the feeders go empty for a few days to get them to go away.

I refilled my empty feeders yesterday and have seen one or two Starlings come back. If I get the whole flock back, then I will just take things down and wait longer, perhaps a week. I'm sure the birds will get by since the snow is all gone here.
A former neighbor told me she had seen Robins and Red-Winged Blackbirds in the past week, and even Bluebirds already out in the country. And a large Snapping Turtle over at the walking trail in the little creek that empties into the lake. And the lake is still ice covered, except at the edges. So, spring may really be here.

The pelicans have returned to Albert Lea Lake already. The ice had gone out only Tuesday or Wednesday.

A male goldfinch on my feeder this morning. The yellow color of his plumage is returning.

I decided to take down my bird feeders as recommended because of the bird flu. I will clean them and just wait until mid-summer before putting them back out.

I did put up a hummingbird feeder last Saturday, and there have been some males visiting, but I haven't noticed any females yet. The other feeders are still down.
