Good Morning, Sneakers. Another Peak Alert electricity day, although the high temp. will only be 83°. They must factor in the "Feels like" number. I agree with what you and soutxed said about sleeping in a bed v. chair. I suppose when your lying down and your feet are elevated there's better circulation, so more round trips through the kidneys for filtering. I missed the Home Run Derby last night, but plan to watch the All Star Game tonight, if I can stay awake. How 'bout you?
Hi, soutxed. I'm sure there will be some changes made in venue choices for political rallies. When you toss in Secret Service, Homeland Security, State Troopers, County Sheriffs , Local Cops, and who knows what else, it must be hard to coordinate, especially in a one-event outdoor setting. Most Fair Grounds weren't designed with would-be assassins in mind. I'm glad you won your battle with the weed eater ----- this time! But that spool of string is just sitting in your shed right now waiting to uncoil the next time it sees you!!
Ed, hope last night's storms weren't damaging. Did you use your drain pipe water trick again?

Sneakers--I see Entergy still has nearly 5000 customers without power and Abbott says nothing about them. Must be a county that already votes for him. CenterPoint still has 128,705 customers without power. Governor Abbott, as are all area politicians, are busy shooting at the 800-pound gorilla in the room. One of the things that has come out is that CenterPoint spends a lot less money trimming back vegetation compared to some of the other poles and wires companies in Texas.I know what you mean, when I sleep in the chair, I get up fewer times. For a while, I turned the pressure up on the C-Pac and got up less. But now back to 3-5 times a night. You probably need the higher pressure on your CPAP. I've got an auto-CPAP that sets its own pressure. Typically about 14 cm H2O but sometimes it will go to the upper stop point of 18.Hope you get groceries soon. We have no tea and probably by now very little milk. The only bread we have is bagels. But I've got eight bagels. Haven't seen AJ this morning. But I just heard him in the dining room.$1,000,000 medical bills, wow. Is there a maximum that the supplement will cover, or will they cut you off? The supplement has only paid $49,258.63 so far this year. The rest goes for Medicare markdowns and Medicare payments. From what I can tell, the supplement has no maximum payout.

Good Morning, Sneakers. Another Peak Alert electricity day, although the high temp. will only be 83°. They must factor in the "Feels like" number. Probably 83 there is the equivalent of 95 in Texas.I agree with what you and soutxed said about sleeping in a bed v. chair. I suppose when your lying down and your feet are elevated there's better circulation, so more round trips through the kidneys for filtering. I think for me, it's that my apnea index is lower sitting up. Every time you have an apnea event, a little bit of diuretic hormone gets generated by your body. And that makes your kidneys work harder.I missed the Home Run Derby last night, but plan to watch the All Star Game tonight, if I can stay awake. How 'bout you? Last night, I listened to SiriusXM Classic Vinyl. Told AJ we need a HEB run. No tea, no milk, no bread, no frozen pizza. AJ said we have a lot of bread, and I said "Bagels and tortillas." AJ wants to do a Curbside pickup so he doesn't have to sit in the Tundra while I scooter around the store.

Spent most of today in the business room.
Watched the ABC 13 Tuesday morning news to nine o'clock. Then, I switched to CNBC.
Did my Tuesday morning chores. Pulled the trash bag out of the large business room trash can and dumped the paper shredder shreds into it. Then, I closed the bag tight so the paper shredder shreds won't get out. Put a fresh trash bag in the trash can after puffing it up so that things will go in easily.
Got my business room trash bag and two white tall kitchen bags full of used disposable diapers from my bedroom. Got John to carry the bags out to the curb.
About eleven o'clock, I keyed in a Curbside order from HEB. What we ordered and got: A loaf of HEB thin sliced enriched white bread Two loaves of HEB Super Duper Butter Bread Four two-liter bottles of regular Dr Pepper Three one-gallon jugs of Red Diamond Sugar Free Tea A ten-slice package of HEB Colby Jack sliced cheese A ten-slice package of HEB Monterey Jack sliced cheese A ten-slice package of HEB Swiss sliced cheese A ten-slice package of HEB Provolone sliced cheese A ten-slice package of HEB Mild Cheddar sliced cheese Two one-gallon jugs of HEB 2% milk A 1# package of Bar S classic bologna A 1# package of Oscar Mayer cotto salami Three 70-ounce bottles of Dawn Ultra Original Scent Liquid Dish Soap Four Red Baron Four Meat frozen pizzas A package of a dozen HEB Sweet Treats Crispy Ice Cream Bars Four large single-serve packages of Stouffer's Meat Lovers' Lasagna A package of a dozen HEB Strawberry Frozen Fruit Bars A stalk of celery A 1# package of fresh sliced white mushrooms A 3# package of fresh yellow onions A 3# package of HEB boneless lean beef stew meat A 32-ounce bag of HEB Fruit and Frosted Rings cereal A jar of Skippy Natural Super Chunk peanut butter Two packages of HEB Beef Stew Seasoning Mix Four eight-ounce cans of Dole pineapple chunks in 100% pineapple juice Four eight-ounce cans of HEB sliced peaches
While I was keying in the order, the business room TV had the ABC 13 eleven o'clock news. After the order, I watched "Jeopardy!"
Switched to the KPRC Channel 2 noon news.
After the noon news was over, I went back to CNBC until it ended. Took a short break from the TV to get together a load of laundry so I can go visit the cardiologist's nurse practitioner for a post-hospital status check tomorrow afternoon. Still need to schedule a visit with my internist (although the cardiologist, podiatrist, and psychiatrist do most of the heavy lifting on my healthcare, about the only thing my internist does is prescribe my CPAP and my thyroid hormone) and a telemedicine session with my psychiatrist.
Taxable brokerage account was up 0.63% today. The only stock that was up today was The Coca-Cola Company. Snail mail had three items in Informed Delivery but the LLV skipped our mailbox. Things are messed up post-Beryl. Informed Delivery has one thing for tomorrow, a VALPAK coupon envelope.
At four o'clock, AJ went out in the Tundra to get the Curbside order from HEB. I said "Should have bought a container of Tide Pods as my second item instead of dish detergent." (They had a special on Procter and Gamble products.) When the kitchen settled down from bringing in groceries, I went and threw the load of laundry in the dryer.
Watched the KPRC Channel 2 news from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Switched to FOX 26 to see the baseball All-Star Game. Score is 3-3 in the fourth inning.
CenterPoint Energy has restored electricity to all but 56,993 customer meters. Over 2.2 million customers now have power.
AJ is fixing beef stew for supper. He says we will be eating late. So, I had a couple of HEB ice cream crispy bars. If I have to wait much longer, I'll have a couple more.
Went through Amazon to see what Prime Day deals they had. All the Alexa devices were half price, but I don't need any more of them. One for the business room and one for the bedroom. But I discovered my Amazon Basics disposable diapers were marked down 15% for Prime Day, so I went out and bought another carton of 48. Won't have to buy them for a while, I just leak enough to make regular underwear impractical and messy.

Lorando--I will say your 83° must be our 103° day. Last night the lawn mower quit on me. Was mowing in the alley (which shouldn't be my responsibility, but the city says it is). Last brush pick up a middle size branch was hiding in the tall grass and got stuck on the blade. We worked about 30 minutes trying to free it from the blade with no luck. Wife has been telling me to give up the mowing and weed eating and turn it over to a yard man. Thought about a couple of ways to get that branch off. If not will take it to repair shop. Blade needs sharpening anyway.
Sneakers--Found several things on Amazon. Suppose to arrive tomorrow. Ordered some wipes from Cigna (get them free and can't find that type in local store.). Supposed to have arrived yesterday by Fed Ex, but nowhere to ne found. Also, email from Ed Ex disappeared so I think the lost the order. Informed delivery said I was getting one piece of mail which was an advertisement for some store in McAllen. Came home from movies saw the mailbox opened and there were several pieces. I think you are right about sitting up means less restroom visits.
Had breakfast with a friend from McAllen who was in Harlingen for a doctor's visit. It was his family practice doctor, but he alternates between Harlingen and McAllen.
Went to see "Fly me to the Moon." It was interesting about an attempt to fake the moon landing.
Switched between the All-Star game and the Republican convention. The promise to tone down the rhetoric lasted through Monday. I am sure the Democrats will do the same next month. One commentator feels it is time for a third party to step up and win the people over.
Will work on the lawn mower today, but when it is fixed will not mow that part of the alley. The family in the "church house" down the street finally mowed their yard. Also, the city must have said something to them about leaving the garbage can in the street. They moved it halfway up their driveway.
Everyone take care.

Good Morning, Sneakers. I see you had your Super Duper Butter Bread on your list. Enjoy! Just tortillas in the fridge here, with some bagels in the freezer. Managed to watch the first 6 innings of the All Star game. I see the score remained the same after that, so I didn't miss much. We'll see if any interesting trades happen in the next week or so. Reread the Peak Alert day notice. They said it was issued because the future price they pay to suppliers is based on the 5 peak summer usage periods. Since it's a Rural Co-op, it gives the customers (owners) a financial incentive to conserve.
Hi, soutxed. I'm kind of "homebound" today, at least for the morning hours. There's a Fed-Ex delivery scheduled from 9:50AM to 1:50PM that needs a signature. But that's ok. It's kind of a dark, cloudy day anyway. Too bad your mower got damaged, especially in an area that the city should take care of. At least it was just a branch hiding in the tall grass, not a snake. Hope you can free it up today.

Lunch today was a small can of HEB peach slices and two bagel sandwiches (salami and Cheddar cheese). I've probably asked before but I forget. Do you toast the bagel for your sandwiches?

Ed--Be careful during the thunderstorms. Saw an interview with the Michigan Governor and she seems pretty sharp. Talked about the attempt to kidnap her over Covid issues.
Those were some dark days. I still think we are in dark days.

The things I found on Amazon on the Prime Days were a carton of Amazon Basics Disposable Diapers 15% off and an Amazon Alexa Smart Plug 50% off. The Smart Plug is for the light on my bedside table. It's awkward being mobility-impaired to turn it on and off with the normal switch. Then, I can turn it on and off by voice command from the Amazon Alexa Echo Dot in my bedroom. Both items are expected to arrive Friday.Informed delivery said I was getting one piece of mail which was an advertisement for some store in McAllen. Came home from movies saw the mailbox opened and there were several pieces. Got both Tuesday's and Wednesday's Informed Delivery mailpieces on Wednesday. I've taken a sneak preview of Thursday's. One piece of AARP junk mail, one survey about my home health provider, and a letter from Medicare that I would guess is the authorization to have home health care. And no mail for AJ.

Ed, hope last night's storms weren't damaging. Did you use your drain pipe water trick again? It was a spectacular light show and it poured buckets. I woke up about 12:30am for a comfort stop (unusual for me) and then turned on the TV, navigated to YouTube and searched for Chicago Weather Live to see what was coming and at one time the weathercaster said there were 7 tornadoes on the ground. Gonna be a long night I'm thinking as I head back to bed. Woke up again around 2:30am to a distant rumble of thunder. Got up and checked YouTube again this time for Detroit Weather Live and saw that, thankfully the stuff that hit Chicago was south of us but we still had that hook headed our way. Turned off the TV and headed for the guest room to look out the back window and the lightning flashes were nearly constant. I stood there watching for about a half hour since I knew I wasn't going to sleep anyways. When it finally got here there were lightning strikes all over the place with huge booms of thunder and the rain started. As the lightning portion moved north I figured any danger was passed so I went back to bed after another comfort stop (even rarer for me). My wife? She slept through the whole thing. As for the board I knew more rain was coming so I left it in place.

Good Morning, Sneakers. I see you had your Super Duper Butter Bread on your list. Enjoy! Just tortillas in the fridge here, with some bagels in the freezer. Had Super Duper Butter Bread this afternoon after I got home from the cardiologist's office. It was a late lunch. I don't have to worry about AJ eating the Super Duper Butter Bread because he doesn't like it. He likes the $0.97 a loaf HEB thin white sandwich bread that I think is only suitable for grilled cheese sandwiches.Managed to watch the first 6 innings of the All Star game. I see the score remained the same after that, so I didn't miss much. We'll see if any interesting trades happen in the next week or so. Watched the game to the end. Then, after the game, they had the FOX 26 late news. It was all messed up. The sound was not in sync with the picture. You'd be watching a Ford ad but the sound was from a Kroger ad. I would think they would have fixed it but they were FUBAR until I switched channels to something else.Reread the Peak Alert day notice. They said it was issued because the future price they pay to suppliers is based on the 5 peak summer usage periods. Since it's a Rural Co-op, it gives the customers (owners) a financial incentive to conserve. My rate of 9.6 cents per kWh plus delivery fees, with a 1.0 cent discount for night and weekend use, is locked in to June 2028.

I don't remember you asking before but YES, I do toast the bagel before adding the meat and cheese. Untoasted bagels are disgusting to me.

Watched the All-Star Game to the end. Then, I watched the FOX 26 late news. They were all messed up. The sound was out of sync with the picture by about a minute. They'd have things like a Ford ad video with Kroger ad audio. I would think they would have corrected matters but they were FUBAR until I switched to ABC 13 and "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
Watched "Jimmy Kimmel Live" but they had a guest host last night. After it was over, I headed off to bed. Went to sleep a few minutes after midnight. Had a bladder leak while sleeping and when I woke up just after eight o'clock, I put on a fresh diaper.
Watched the tail end of the FOX 26 Wednesday morning news. When that was over, I watched an hour of CNBC and the eleven o'clock ABC 13 news. I ate some HEB Super Crunchy ice cream bars to tide me over until I had lunch after the appointment.
A few minutes after noon, I got in the shower. It was the first shower I had had in two weeks but when I was in Houston Methodist Hospital they wiped me down every day with antibacterial wipes. After I showered, I dried off and put on fresh clothing with a fresh diaper. I think it's the only time I've changed diapers twice in a day.
AJ got the Tundra turned around so I could get into the passenger seat from the house side and I got in.
I was a few minutes late to my appointment but not late enough to be considered a no-show.
The nurse practitioner who looked at me in the hospital went over me. She found my blood pressure was great on the new lower doses of blood pressure medicine. I said I get a little bit higher readings at home but that may be my blood pressure machine. I was thinking that maybe I should have taken it but I didn't. She prescribed a years' worth of my new lower dose medications. (The copay is the same as they are for the higher dose pills.) She also ordered some kidney function tests to see if they were functioning better.
I went down to the ground floor to the Quest Diagnostics Patient Service Center. They scanned both sides of my drivers' license and both insurance cards (Medicare and Medicare Supplement) in an automated kiosk. The kiosk displayed that I would be served at 2:10 PM. I think they got me in and out of there a bit quicker because I was calling AJ to pick me up at 2:14 PM. It was an uneventful and only mildly unpleasant blood draw. I have already seen the results, my kidneys have slightly impaired function but I'm an awfully long way from end-stage renal disease.
When I left the Patient Service Center, I sat down in a chair on the first floor and called AJ. At that time, we had a heavy thunderstorm going on. He got the Tundra under the overhang at the front of the building and got me in. I noticed one thing. When I'm riding, I don't try to get gas prices any more but I look at them. The number "3.09" was very popular today on gas station signs between Webster and Friendswood.
Had lunch. Two sandwiches of HEB Super Duper Butter Bread with salami and Provolone cheese. Late enough lunch that I'm not really hungry now.
Taxable brokerage account was up 1.96% today. The only stock that was down was Keurig Dr Pepper.
Watched the KPRC Channel 2 news from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Today was the second day of Amazon Prime Days and I decided to buy an Amazon Alexa Smart Plug at 50% off. I plan to use it to control the light on my bedside table. The switch is very awkward to reach being mobility-impaired. I not infrequently leave it on all day. Fortunately, it is a small LED lamp so it doesn't use much power.
I hadn't E-mailed my brother Bruce since the day I got out of the hospital. So, I wrote him a two-page E-mail.
Listened to SiriusXM Yacht Rock Radio on the Amazon Alexa Echo Dot in the business room between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM. Then, I turned off SiriusXM and turned on the CW 39 nine o'clock news.
Switched to KHOU Channel 11 (CBS) and I was watching the Republican National Convention awaiting the late local news coming on. The Vice Presidential candidate was speaking. Watched the late local news on KHOU and switched to ABC 13 for "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
I have not yet taken my bedtime pills. I am drinking Red Diamond Sugar-Free Tea from a Houston Methodist Hospital plastic tumbler. I haven't had anything for supper yet.

Lorando--The Peak Alert Day notice is something I don't think I have seen from Reliant. We are seeing in the media that there may be rolling blackouts in August. Fed Ex delivered my medication yesterday, one day late but I didn't need it until today. Hope your package comes early. Was switching between All Star game and the GOP convention. Watching some speakers to count the lies. Same will be with the Democrats. Baseball season restarts tonight.
Sneakers--My Amazon order is a digital thermometer, Le Creuset Foil cutter, litter bags for the cat,a very short extension to put in bathroom plus hotel rooms, and a book. The book and thermometer is to be delivered by Amazon and the rest by UPS. Jimmy Kimmel will be gone until September and there will be guest host. But with the GOP convention running late, pushing the 10PM news to 10:30 I haven't stayed up. The CBS news had a story about a restaurant with 50 health code violations and still opened. A few weeks ago they explained the Starr and Willacy counties have no heath department to inspect restaurants so eat at your own risk.
Ed--Sounds like you had a long night with those storms. We get those but not lately. News stories about how low our reservoirs are. Some cities have rationing but Harlingen and Willacy County has none. Politicians say they are going to force Mexico to release the water that was promised under a treaty.
Got the board out of the lawn mower. Took several different tools. Felt good. Cut the lawn but skipped that part of the alley. City is supposed to mow the ditch, but it has been months since the ditch next to our house and the neighbor across the street has been cleaned or mowed. Also, behind the new house we tried to stop cannot be cleared or mowed as the back fence in too close. The map the city has which allowed the fence is out of date due to deuteriation for 50 years.
Watched another episode of American sweethearts, which is a seven-part series about the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Their coach is tough, something the football players need.
See what today brings.

Good Morning, soutxed. Is your new digital thermometer for inside or does it transmit information from outside? I've had a transmitter hanging in a tree for a couple years. I think I mentioned it once that there were actually two trees growing so close they looked like one tree. One was an apple and one was a cherry. Seemed like they both blossomed on the same day and it was half pink and half white. Very beautiful for about a week, but the cherry part was losing the battle for sunlight, so they cut it down, and cut all the lower branches off the apple tree. So I've been scouting a new tree to hang the weather transmitter from. It needed constant shade and preferably should be about 4 feet above the ground. I found a nice shady spot, but it's about 9 feet up. When you re-locate it, it goes into "Learning Mode" and self adjusts for about 18 days. So far so good. All the readings are very close to the airport's, which is about a mile away. That Fed-Ex package arrived about 3 ½ hours into the 4 hour window, so I can't complain.
Hello, Sneakers. No Peak Alert Day today. High should only reach 73. It was actually a touch chilly when I walked around the neighborhood this morning. I've been reading about the automatic ball and strike caller that might be used at the MLB level in 2026. It said the strike zone is automatically set at 53.5% of the batter's height (top of zone), and 27% of batter's height (bottom of zone). Also the pitch is measured at 8.5 inches from the front and back of the plate, and it is accurate to 1/100 of an inch. I have mixed feelings about it, but that's probably because I'm an old guy. It's back to watching the Yankees tonight. I didn't watch any of the RNC Convention. Figure anything said by either side is just noise from now until November. But it sure is LOUD noise this time around.
Hi, Ed. That sounds like a once every few years type of stormy night. Let's hope you won't have to go through that again for a long time. How can lightning be so beautiful, yet so scary at the same time!
