Good Friday Morning, Sneakers. Chances are you're enjoying your breakfast omelet as I'm writing this. Glad to hear you have lots of nurses and techs popping in and out of the room. Always good to have that human interaction. $2.70 per can of soda at Ignite, and I think you said that's for a mini-can! Sounds like an invitation for a black market or smuggling operation. Aargh!
Hello, Uncle. Tomorrow is the city's big summer event throughout the town, and I'll be manning the meatball sub stand out in front of the church. As usual, the Green will be filled with custom cars from all over and the sounds of revving Muscle Cars and Old Hot Rod music. It's kind of fun, but once a year is plenty.
Hi, Patty. I hear you. Dry air in the winter is not comfortable for breathing. My biggest problem is sore and split hands and fingers, but breathing difficulties would be a lot worse. At least your neighbors now seem a lot less problematic than some of your former ones.
Morning, soutxed. It's good you and your wife finally got the cause of death from the ME's report. I hope it brings closure and peace to you both. Did you get your grass mowed this morning? I asked my barber yesterday what was new, and he said, "Cuttin' hair, Cuttin' grass!" In your area, I suppose outside activities are limited to early morning and evening. Do you have mosquitos too? Being so dry this year for you, maybe it's not so bad. They've found mosquitos infected with Lyme or West Nile or one of the other diseases in the next county, but not our's yet.

Sneakers--Sounds like you are getting treated well. You can special order your eggs. Not sure that happens here. The nursing where BIL was did cook eggs and others the way BIL liked them. But caretaker sister was pretty demanding. The nurses were glad she is gone.
Pretty good. They asked me if I wanted to get up in a chair after breakfast and I said it wouldn’t be easy to get there given my foot. They got in Physical Therapy and they got me out of bed and in a chair. They have three ways you can have eggs. My breakfast was served by a former HEB Partner. He was wearing his “HEB Personal Shopper” jacket. Going to pay bills in a little bit. Turned off the TV and told Alexa “Play classic rock!” at 9:00 AM .

Had my breakfast a couple of hours ago.English muffin , turkey sausage patty, omelet, oatmeal, OJ, and organic vanilla soy milk. j really liked the soy milk and had another carton at lunch. Physical Therapy got me up and in a recliner. At Houston Methodist Hospital the mini-cans of Diet Coke are free on request to your nurse. Ignite has the $2.70 cans of pop and for that you get a twelve ounce can and a glass full of ice. It was $1 for a twelve ounce can of pop with no ice at Friendship Haven, the nursing home I was in the end of September 2023. Except Friendship Haven has a lot of bellowers because they have inadequate staff. They also have no Wi-Fi but the iPad has cellular mobile data so I don’t miss it. Lunch is in sight right now so I will send this and start eating.

Had lunch. Tossed salad with cucumbers and tomato, French dressing, cheese tortellini with meat and tomato sauce, zucchini, wheat roll, peaches, and vanilla organic soy milk. Ate and drank everything but part of the salad (when I ran out of dressing).
Paid bills. Got $22.50 left until the 28th of the month. Saving money because hospital food costs me nothing additional but HEB food does. Also not using electricity at home.
Now watching the ABC 13 three o’clock news.
Stocks were down overall but my taxable brokerage account was up 1.75% today, bucking the indexes. Guess people need to eat and drink.
Still in the recliner.
Just had a mini-can of Diet Coke.

Had supper. Salad, French dressing, salmon, rotini with marinara sauce, wheat roll, honeydew melon, iced tea. Ate everything but some of the salad (ate what I could coat in dressing).
Had a second can of Diet Coke.
Had my clothes changed after I got done eating.
Had IV antibiotics going in my left arm. Somewhat uncomfortable when it was running but now it’s done.
Still haven’t had my foot unbandaged.
Got on the Astros-Rays game on TV. Rays ahead 2-0 in the third inning.
Still in the recliner but thinking about getting in bed. Nurses are thinking the same.
Called family. Talked to cousin Janet, she was surprised that I end out with very little money left after I pay my bills. iI forgot to mention vehicle insurance. It eats up more than Medicare and the Medigap insurance does. Cousin Martha is at a horse show, most of the time she’s home.

Souxed: Good that the medical examiner report came back. That should help in the healing process. It never should have taken that amount of time though. I wonder if the commercial at your house would be on TV. I would have asked.
lorando: I complained to the housing authority last Monday, as I came in from work on Sunday evening to a huge cloud of smoke and a foul odor. The guy downstairs vapes continually. It is not better than cigarettes. It is actually more dangerous as it contains formaldehyde for e-cigarettes. There is supposed to be no tobacco products of any kind smoked inside the apartments here. That goes for vaping, as well. He has been smoking since I moved in but it has been getting worse. His smoking is more frequent due to boredom and depression. It is not too bad right now so I will see how it goes. I am not sure if something was said to him or he just cut down all of a sudden. I have had an air cleaner by Dyson running in here since I moved in. I have had to keep putting up the volume on it due to the smoke and odor. However, last Sunday was a disaster. The cleaner could not keep up with the smoke. Ridiculous right?
Sneakers: I wonder when you will be going to therapy at Ignite. Probably not for awhile as you just had surgery. Glad that is over and done with. Does AJ or Isaiah visit you? Maybe your recovery will go quicker this time. Best of luck with it.
Uncle: When are you leaving for the reunion? I know GPS' make mistakes but, in general, they are better than nothing. You might know the route if you have done it a few times. But I think it has been a year since you took the ride there.
Have a good weekend Everyone!!

Last time, I had surgery on the 17th of October and they transferred me to Ignite on the 19th. I think right now they are waiting for lab culture results. AJ and I talk on the phone frequently but he only came here once to swap things. Isaiah decided to stay in the Tundra. i don’t think the short term recovery will go any faster. I’ve been dealing with the foot for over a year. AJ offered to bring me the ThinkPad but the main thing that would have saved me was the time to get Excel running on the iPad. But one thing you have in.the hospital is time. Forgot my Microsoft account password and had to reset it. Much easier to reset my Apple password but I had the advantage of doing so on an Apple device. Woke up just after 3:30 AM. Weekdays, the TV stations have insomniac news. On the weekends the same time slots are filled with paid programming. I was dry mouthed and I couldn’t get Alexa to command. The nurse had to do it and I learned a new Alexa command phrase. The paid programming on Sunday morning is better because it is usually a pastor bringing a message. Unlike Mom, I had no trouble listening to an unfamiliar@ preacher. I wanted to stop and visit a church service on vacation but Pop wanted to drive. I think the only church service we went to on vacation was my Uncle Earl’s (father’s sisters husband). But when I was on a business trip that extended through the weekend I didn’t go to church, but I remember only one trip that spanned a weekend. it’s a few minutes until six o’clock and that’s the time the Saturday morning news starts when I wrote this.

Sneakers--Hopefully you can go to Ignite sooner than later. Any word on when the foot will be unbandaged? I don't remember when family was in hospital that they charged for sodas and extras. The nursing home where BIL was staying they brought him whatever the SIL wanted. If they charged, then Medicare paid for it. If they did I know we would have heard about it.
Lorando--Did get the yard mowed. I prefer doing it during the cool time, but a neighbor will be out in the yard midafternoon dressed in pants, long sleeve shirt and scarf around his neck. Same with a friend of ours, but he takes breaks every 15 minutes. Wish I could be there for the car show. How much money do the church make selling those meatball subs? Astros win but we were at a club where they were showing the Ranger game.
Patty--Crazy about the smoker. I don't remember having that problem when living in apartments. Our previous neighbor across the street would sit on the front porch smoking. Cancer eventually took her life. I talked the owner yesterday when I went to make the final payment and he didn't see a TV commercial soon, but it could be down the road. Mostly now it will be on their Facebook and web pages.
Getting the news about the cause of death has made life a little easier. One bothersome thing is dad died of a heart attack and now our son. Dads was due to his diet and son because of diabetes.
Went to hear one of our favorite bands and hoped to be with friends from the old wine house. But we were the only ones to show up. A group at the table next to us had 4 birthday people. Band sang to them. They are not related, just friends.
Market Days today. Will go just to get fresh honey. None of the bands playing seem worth standing out in the heat. May go to Brownsville to check out a new store.

Just saw a clinician. He was talking that the toe is gone and I will go home to frequent home health visits after leaving the hospital.. Foot is still bandaged so I can’t verify for myself but when I looked at my latest list of surgeries it mentioned a left toe amputation. I had a considerably better trip to the toilet this morning. Not any real stretching today and no getting caught with a poop half in and half out like Thursday night. Sitting in a recliner listening to classic rock music on the Alexa. It is almost lunchtime and Physical Therapy is going to change the bandage so I will get to see for myself after lunch.

Soutxed: You seem to take good care of yourself. I think as long as you have your BP and cholesterol checked you should be fine. Eat well too. I know a lot of older folks who live at this apartment place get little to no exercise. They are in a situation where their hearts are being taxed due to doing nothing all day. I am gone almost everyday. I climb 14 stairs up and down sometimes several times a day (like today). Saturday is laundry and food shopping day. It is an exhausting one. My legs are throbbing, numb and sore all at the same time. What a bummer. But I remain very active. I cannot sit around all day. I have never been one who could do that.
Sneakers: I would be a bit nervous the first time the bandage came off my foot with the toe missing. I hope you made out OK with it. Gee, they are going to send you home rather than sending you to Ignite. Will that work even with therapy at home? I would think you would need therapy at Ignite, as you no longer have big toes on your feet. You need to make sure that you can balance yourself without falling and hurting yourself. That is so important. I hope that the hospital staff is doing the right thing.
Have a good Sunday Everyone!!

Good Sunday Morning, Patty. I completely agree about living near smokers, especially in a multi-family dwelling. An apartment I leased when I first retired was great, but I couldn't wait for the lease to run out so I could escape the smoker(s). I guess you have to be a non-smoker to understand how miserable it can make you feel. Good for you for staying busy and getting out every day!
Hi, Sneakers. What an exhausting week for you! Are you at peace with the plan for frequent home visits to monitor your progress? Hopefully, being in familiar surroundings will help you decompress and get you back into a comfortable routine.
Hello, soutxed. Not a great day for outdoor activities yesterday, but we still did well at the food booth. It rained hard early on, with some spotty showers later on. Then when cleanup came it poured, and we took down the canopies in a heavy rain. A lot of people (and show cars) must have listened to the forecast and stayed home. The ironic thing is we probably made more money this year than usual because so many things were donated by members. I was too soaked to stay and count, but I'll do that this morning.
Morning, Uncle. Hope you're enjoying the family reunion. How many people are in attendance this year? By the way, enjoy Heritage Day tomorrow. I remember that Alberta celebrates it on a different day than the rest of the country. Albertans must have an independent streak! I like that.

Lorando--Sorry the rain disrupted the celebration, but hopefully your church made some money. I agree with you about the smokers. Thankfully I never had to live near smokers like Patty. Just the lady across the street before she passed sitting on the front poach smoking. The new owners were smokers when they moved in so the smoke smell didn't bother them, but husband and wife both quit smoking some time ago.
Patty--My BP and Cholesterol have been good. I try to exercise three times a week, either at the gym or mowing. I still hate weed eating the lawn. Wife is concerned about some of her family who don't take care of themselves.
Sneakers--How much longer will you be in the hospital? Doesn't look like they are in a rush to get rid of you. In the wintertime here the hospitals are so overcrowded with Winter Texans that they sometimes rush a dismissal. Also, the uninsured get pushed out quickly, but then lawsuits against doctors and hospitals are high, or once was until the legislature passed some king of bill to cut frivolous lawsuits. Are you housemates ready for you to come home?
Went to Brownsville to shop for clothes forgetting it was no sales tax weekend. Stores were crowded but I ended up with two new pair of pants. But tried on 10 or more before I found some that fix. Wife found a shirt.
Went to a new restaurant to hear a couple sing. Wife ordered a chicken sandwich which was terrible. But she didn't return it. May go back but order something different. My hamburger was okay but I have had better at home.
Church today. Hope all goes well.

Hi, Sneakers. What an exhausting week for you! Are you at peace with the plan for frequent home visits to monitor your progress? Hopefully, being in familiar surroundings will help you decompress and get you back into a comfortable routine.
I’m a bit concerned because Rita Lynn sheds hair constantly and I had trouble with dog hair getting into the wound. I had wound care this morning and the technician said the wound looked good. The Infectious Disease doctor has not yet prescribed anything other than empiric antibiotics. But the wound cultures are done. I am having left leg pain and one of the doctors prescribed Norco so I would be more comfortable. I had never had it before. Seems to deserve the reputation of “painkiller.” Glanced over, my PureWick urine collector is nearly full. Nurse just emptied it. After Cousin Martha’s church service, I wanted Alexa to play some appropriate music. Tried “praise and worship” music, she said to try a different genre. Same result to “contemporary Christian” music. Went more generic again and got Christian music, which happened to be contemporary Christian music and not hymns. The presentation this morning was a progress report on a missionary trip to Moldova. Astros down 1-0 in the seventh inning against the Tampa Bay Rays. Just requested a can of Diet Coke and a glass of ice.

The last clinician to mention a date for me to get out of the hospital suggested tomorrow but I cannot move without help. I would be less concerned if they sent me to Ignite to rehab until I can easily move with a walker. Cannot get a wheelchair down the south hall. AJ has told me I am missed but if I am in a facility my cost of living goes down because I am not buying food at HEB or using electricity at the house. Watching baseball. Tampa Bay Rays ahead of the Astros 1-0 in the ninth inning .Plan to play classic rock on the hospital Alexa until the 5:00 PM news after the game wraps up.

Just wondered what Alexa would do if I requested her to “shut the f*** up.” Exactly what you would expect her to do without a comment to watch my potty mouth. Not going to use that as a regular command. May do it in front of AJ or the boys to see their reaction.
