My day is going great so far. I'm looking out at the dark sky wondering when the "bad" storm is arriving.
Tornadoes, hail, and high winds expected in this movement today. The South is getting busted again.

Hello Hen23: Wow. You were at the other place for 11 years? I was at the other place for over 13 years. But my first consecutive days break was less than a week later. Went in the hospital. Last break in consecutive days was because I went in the hospital. But it seems the things that I have usually don't have me deferred from being a platelet donor. In fact, having infections probably makes me better for some purposes. Back in 2017, I could only donate one time each month the first three months of the year and not at all in April (lost too many red blood cells) and May (had to wait six weeks after I had my Cinco de Mayo foot repair because they did it at a hospital and not the doctors' office).

And then Euchre at the senior center. I had to look up "Euchre" to see what it was. After all, tomorrow is Good Friday and Saturday night I'll probably be in the business room watching my favorite movie (the 1956 version of "The Ten Commandments"). Last year, I got to watch it in the hospital with a bandaged left foot! One of the few movies that was improved by editing for TV, they got rid of most of the wandering in the desert. I was wondering if it was an alternate spelling of "Eucharist" but no, it turned out to be a card game with no religious holiday overtones whatsoever that I could see.

I think we've got the same weather as hen23, just delayed a few hours. No complaints, though -- so much better than the whites stuff!! The forecast is for cool temps, so it may dry out before it's time to start mowing. Patty, that default avatar here is awful. Please change it! It's easy to upload one!! The newest posts last feature is tough to catch on to. There are more folks here than at the other place, so I'd suggest opening two windows, one with the posting window and one that you can scroll up and down with and switch pages. Separate them so they're side by side, maybe overlapping, which would make switching easy. I wish I'd have thought of that with my old hello thread over there. This linked article, that has slipped from the front page of news articles (but in my experience will be available as long as they keep the current system), is a great place to get your points! In successive posts there, I posted: - Consecutive Days: 3426
- 30 Day Rank: 3,289
- Overall Rank: 1,180
- Forum Posts: 1,000,008
- GasBuddy Age: 9 Years 154 Days
Euchre is huge here in Ohio!

One thing in particular made today a very good day.
To cut to the chase, I got the second and probably final payment from FEMA NFIP for the Harvey building damage to my home. It was almost six figures; I got more than that counting the advance I got last year on my building losses. I've now got money to replace the windows (we haven't done that yet for the ones Harvey broke, we're going to do all of them because they're single pane energy hog windows) and the water heater (still works, but FEMA NFIP says that they usually fail a few months after a flood so they paid for it). I want to get a hybrid water heater; unlike a hybrid car, they pay for themselves in one to two years in reduced electricity bills. They also sent me a payment for the contents, but I'm going need to file an updated home inventory to hopefully get more. I think they did what they could obviously see that was put outside to get the claim in process.
I was thinking that "it's Good Friday tomorrow... the bank won't be open!" but it's only a stock market holiday tomorrow. Banks will be open. I'll probably take it to my local brick and mortar bank because they will likely allow me to draw funds against it the next business day. Capital One 360 absolutely, definitely won't. I've been financing some of the home repairs with a credit card. One with a low interest rate as credit cards go, but it's still a credit card.
Got a phone call from Charles Schwab asking if I wanted to sign up for their robo-advice offering for my IRA; I had made an inquiry about it. I had the initial free consultation a week ago. I think I'm pretty much satisfied with Fisher, even though they're more expensive. They also do more work than Schwab does. My Fisher account is full custom, I can specify things I don't want my money invested in (companies that get a large portion of their income from alcohol, casinos, gaming, or tobacco). My Investment Counselor says I don't want any sin stocks but a lot of funds that specialize in that market niche also exclude companies that make fossil fuels or weapons. No beef with either one of those from me.
Lunch today was two shredded beef and Havarti cheese sandwiches on onion buns, a pint of OJ, and a 11.5 ounce can of V-8 juice. I would have had a pint of lowfat chocolate milk but I have to compete with Isaiah for the available supply. Probably better for him than the sugared Dr Pepper he inhales. And if you wonder, he's as skinny as a rail. Thirteen year old boys need a lot of fuel.
Watched CNBC until the stock markets finished up the week, month, and quarter. Both of my accounts (the professionally managed IRA and the self-managed [with lots of research reports] taxable account) were both up over 1% today.
Then, Chelsea had done a lot of dishes and I put them back in the cabinets (most of our cabinets are already installed). She congratulated me on figuring out quite well where things go. Even though the major things I use in the kitchen are cutlery, glasses, and plates.
Made a liter of Sodastream Diet Fountain Mist (their attempt to clone Mountain Dew). Drank about half of it, put it in the fridge, and made a liter of Sodastream Diet Root Beer. I predominantly like dark-colored drinks anyway, but I'll occasionally drink something that isn't. After all, variety is the spice of life. If you wonder: William Cowper, who wrote the lyrics for a large number of hymns, was credited with that observation.
Then, I got the daily mail. That is, other than the six packages for stuff Chelsea had ordered to fix up the house. The mail carrier brought them to the front door. Main things that I got were three letters related to FEMA NFIP and a technical society magazine. I have a lifetime subscription to their publications. Got it when I was working a lot of overtime. I used to sign up for lifetime subscriptions to things when I worked a lot of overtime.
Chelsea's fixing herself healthy stuff so she can lose weight. AJ is fixing the guys pork chops in the smoker. I don't know what else we will have to go with the entrée.
I had the 5:00 to 7:00 PM ABC 13 news on, but I was distracted by the mail.
Now, I'm watching "The Daily Ledger." They were talking about the Department of Veterans Affairs when I originally wrote this. They're now talking about Orange County trying to refuse being a sanctuary county.

Tornadoes, hail, and high winds expected in this movement today. The South is getting busted again. Think we had that just to the north of Houston last night. There were people that had Harvey damage, cleaned it up, and now they get to do it again.

Busy I put up out door motion lights. I started around noon and actually was finished by 5pm. My fitbit shows 6,950 steps and I don't think that includes all the crawling around in the attic to hook up the wiring. I should sleep well tonight. Have a great evening Patty and all that stop by. Mike

Pretty good day, wrapping up the day now.
Tired, may head to bed before the 10:00 PM news is finished. They've done most of the news anyway.
Had the TV in the business room all evening. Finished up my two hours on One America News Network listening to their conservative commentators, watched the 9:00 PM CW 39 NewsFix, and right now I'm watching the weather forecast. They're saying an ideal day tomorrow.
Tomorrow, I'm going to be running errands. And, as I run errands, I'm going to get gas prices. My agenda is going to the bank, eating a cheap lunch (which I define as any lunch where the sales tax on the food and drink is less than $1), and going grocery shopping.
Supper tonight was hamburgers and pork chops prepared in the smoker (AJ's contribution), boiled cabbage with a lot of turkey bacon in it, and a dish of fresh fruit (Chelsea's contributions). My contribution was the pop that I drank. That, and going to the grocery store and buying most of the food.

Hi Everyone:
WaWanderer: What a lot of work to put up motion lights but you know what? We need all the security that we can provide to protect ourselves. You got a lot of exercise, too, which is a great thing. Glad you got that project out of the way, Mike.
Sneakers: Glad you got another payment from FEMA. You lost soooo much from Harvey. Do you eat meat on Good Friday? Hope Isiah feels better. He does not want to be sick on Easter. Poor kid.
SUVFan: Congrats on going over 1M+ posts at the other place. I miss the aspect of posting as it really relieved a lot of stress for me. At times, I still cannot believe that all the forums are gone. How sad that really is. I hope to get an avatar photo this weekend. I just work all the time and I don't get in here often enough.
gramsjc: Always nice to stay close to home once in awhile. Glad you had a good day.
bluwahoo. I just read on my phone that the tornado season just started. They are rare where I live but could still happen during a severe thunderstorm. I hate those ugly black clouds before a storm. Hope the storm was not too bad.
Pigeon007: Awesome. Are you away for the holiday weekend? Enjoy.
Chris46: A BIG welcome to my thread Chris. It does take awhile to get used to this sight. I remember that you used to tell me that you went to the senior center on Thursday to play Euchre. I never played that card game. Glad you had a great day. And lunch out too. Awesome Chris.
hen23: We are going to have a lot of rain showers on and off for several days. Rain tomorrow (Friday) and then almost all next week. It must be April showers. I am glad that it is too warm for snow.
BGJam: Your day sounds good to me. Blessings to you too, BGJam.
Waubeek: I love how you have the dog moving in your avatar. I am not even sure how to even post one. Oh, are you on call (lol).
OMG!! This site is wonderful. I love seeing new and old friends on here. Thanks soooooo much for stopping by my thread. Have a happy, healthy and safe Friday Everyone!!!!

I had a very thankful Thursday, Patty. How about you?
Hi sneakers. Glad you did a little research on "Euchre". I guess its not played in Houston much? Its quick and easy to play. Something we seniors need with our diminished brain waves. Nothing religious about it. I'm sure they didn't play it in Jerusalem.
SUVFan, I see you know a thing or two about the game.
Well, look at the time. I guess I'd better be checking the back's of my eyelids for light leaks.
Have a good night everybody?

Dealing with occasional insomnia.
Was sleepy at 10:30 PM yesterday evening but bolt upright now.
Guess the excitement of getting the FEMA check got to me. Either that or cranky joints. Perfectly awake now despite the normally very sedating pills. I don't think it was because Fiona and Tiger were in the bed. They're sound asleep on the bottom right corner unless I disturb them.
I think AJ is burned out doing house repairs to where he lives. I think I'm going to let him finish mounting the kitchen cabinets, the doors, and the mopboards (all of which we have purchased) and get a crew in to do the bathrooms. We've already decided we're going to get a contractor to do the electrical work in the business room, dining room, kitchen, and living room but we've not scheduled it. We have windows to replace that were damaged by Harvey. We also need to replace the water heater, FEMA NFIP told us that (the bottom four feet of it was underwater for three days) and they included funds to do it. I think we'll have enough left to do some energy efficiency improvements.
May truncate tomorrow's errands to the morning as when I don't sleep at night I'm good to about 3:00 PM. Then, I know better than to try to drive. Probably skip going out for lunch before grocery shopping even as much as I love to eat out. Even though Chelsea says "By yourself?" I enjoy curling up in a cozy booth, sipping iced tea, and tapping on the iPad.
