Thanks sneakers. Do you have the symbol for diamonds, too?
I looked. Seems that the commodity exchange-traded funds only cover energy commodities (crude oil, natural gas, etc.) and metals (platinum, palladium, copper, aluminum, etc.). I couldn't find anything in the way of precious stones.
There is an exchange-traded fund known as the "DIAMONDS" but it doesn't track precious stones. What it does track is the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). Around 9.5% of the fund is invested in Boeing stock, corresponding to Boeing's weighting in the DJIA.

BTW what do commodities, ETFs, and stocks have to do with computers, other than a computer is keeping track of their value? All the stocks in the daily list that lind generates have to do with high-tech (computer hardware, software, Internet access, semiconductors, etc.). When the user-configuration option was first added, I had lind tracking Boeing and RCI Hospitality (a Houston-based company that runs nightclubs and restaurants) for a few days. Eventually, I came up with a list of computer-related stocks (hardware, software, services).
Back at That Other Site, when it also had forums other than those relating to news stories, somebody started out tracking Apple. I added Lenovo, Intel, and Microsoft (all stocks that I own). Somebody else did HP. Now, on this site, we have a list of stocks related to the computer industry in one way or another.
Recently, we've had a bit of topic drift into commodity ETFs. Tsk, tsk!

Sneakers, thanks for trying. Maybe it's because there is so much variation in quality: color, clarity and all that. Anyway, I'll be at the mercy of whichever jewelry store I take them to and what they offer.
It looks like you own some wonderful stocks (ie, I'm jealous)
Back when I got my first iMac I loved it so much that I would have bought some Apple stock if I'd had any available cash. Sadly I didn't, or I'd be doing much better now! That was before iPads and iPhones, etc.
I did inherit one stock, from a "little" local company that hasn't done too badly: 3M. Unfortunately it was only a small number of shares. Another local stock has done very well, too, although I don't have any: Target. I wonder about its future, though, with the shift to online retailing. But it doesn't matter to me personally, since I don't own.
How is Warren Buffets' doing these days? I can't remember at the moment what it's called (aagghh it's on the tip of my tongue!). That's another that years ago I wished I had the money to invest in. My aunt owned some, maybe only one share. It did very, very well for a long time, but I wonder if that continued. IF I recall, he was hesitant to invest in the tech industry, which was probably a good thing back then, since there were so many failures before they learned how to monetize what they had. But that's changed.

Berkshire Hathaway bought AAPL recently too? Sigh.

Berkshire Hathaway bought AAPL recently too? BRK has about $28 billion in Apple stock among their various investments. On the other hand, AAPL has an enterprise value close to a trillion dollars. Insurance companies have a lot of investment reserves. State Farm Insurance, as of the last time I looked, owned about 10% of Nucor (NUE). My late father was quite skeptical when I told him I owned part of a company that makes steel. Of course, NUE is not your grandpa's steel company. Neither is Steel Dynamics (STLD).

I tried putting BRK in my little stock tracker to see what it's selling for now, but it wouldn't take just plain BRK. It had BRK-A, BRK-B,BRKA or BRKB, all for Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. (NYSE). Do you know which one, or should I try all four to see what happens? I guess now he's convinced that tech stocks won't all fail.

There's two classes of Berkshire Hathaway:
Class A - which is about $290,000.00 a share (counts as 10,000 votes on shareholder resolutions): BRK-A, BRKA, BRK/A (I've seen all three designations used for the stock) Class B - which is about $194.00 a share (counts as one vote on shareholder resolutions): BRK-B, BRKB, BRK/B (all three designations are used)
Royal Dutch Shell also has Class A and Class B shares, but in that case the shares are very close in price. It's how they tax the dividends. Class A has Netherlands tax treatment, Class B has UK tax treatment.
Ford Motor Company has Class A and Class B shares, but in that case the shares have the same price and only the voting proportions vary. All the Class B stock together is 40% of the voting power. Somebody named Henry Ford has to be your ancestor for you to inherit Class B stock.
Comcast, Meredith, and Nike have multiple share classes with different voting rights. Usually tied to the founders of the respective companies.

Thanks, sneakers. I used to know they had two classes of shares but forgot.
I'm very uninformed. Is there a good, easy to understand website you recommend for keeping up on these few, etc? The Motley Fool? I've looked at that a bit in the past.
Sorry for taking (and keeping) this off-topic. Is there another more general one that I should be looking at instead?
(If you read this before this edit, I figured out what I had mis-read)
