Congrats on getting their previous home sold and good luck with the rest of the move!
Yes, I heard the guy passed away. Always sad when someone dies but that did qualify him for a Darwin award.
Death is so tough to come to grips with. It's part of life -- the last part, for the one who dies -- but so difficult for the survivors. I remember going up for my mom's last birthday and it was the same situation as you describe -- no way was she going to be around for another year. And she wasn't. But she knew it, too, and had a great day and everyone's focus was on doing whatever we could to make that happen. I hope your dad's birthday is outstanding and something all of you can look back on.
You absolutely should plug your upcoming talk. One of the benefits of being a presenter.
There are a lot of golf fanatics. No matter the weather, they'll play. I played on some of the hot days, too, but wrapped up before it got really hot. Still, TG is a great option but not a substitute for actual golf. I went again today and got in some really good work, addressing areas where I didn't do so well this week, plus maintaining areas that seem to be working well. I had a disappointing round on Tuesday -- 2 really bad holes and no great ones -- but a better 9 hole round yesterday, but no birdies. Chipping was a problem, so I worked hard on that. I think I have an idea of why I've been coming over the top on a couple of drives each round and worked on that. I'm happy with my irons but think what I've done with them is causing some of the problems with the drives. I'm playing tomorrow on a tough course, a good test to see if my tweaks are helping.
That will come early! Hope the weekend starts well!

Sounds like you have a good idea on what you should do next in your golf game and have a plan to improve. That is half the battle.
Hope things went well at the hard course yesterday. Nice to see you do a mix of courses with varying degrees of difficulty. That should help improve your game as well.
pending death and death for people really close to me are two things I have not had to deal with that often in my life. It is definitely a little easier when you are kind of expecting it, although when the time comes, it still hurts. I think we are all ready for whatever happens to my dad.
Celebrated a friend's birthday at Defiance Ridge Thursday night. There were 16 of us and we had a great time. Been avoiding going to the wineries very often as I am getting my weight to where I want it, but for special occasions, it is worth it. Ate sensibly and only had two overpoured glasses of port while I was there. I am well within the weight range I want to stay in so it did not have a negative effect.
Starting to move small things to my in law's new place this weekend. The movers will be here Monday afternoon to haul the bigger stuff.
Going out again early Sunday morning with two friends to shoot some more with my new camera lens. Looking forward to it.
Happy Saturday!!!

Losing a loved one is never easy. But the memories are comforting and mitigate the loss over time, at least for some folks. Some never adjust. It's just totally personal and there's no right or wrong way to feel. Your dad's last year or so has been very difficult for him and probably even harder for you.
Cheat days are fine as long as they don't turn into cheat weeks, months, etc. Cheat years are real trouble. Glad you enjoyed the party!
Very exciting that the inlaws stay is approaching the end and they'll be in their own space soon. I'm sure it's been tough for everyone and all are looking forward to the change.
Hope you get a ton of great shots tomorrow.
I'll be shooting, too, but on a golf course. Looking forward to putting yesterday behind me!
Yesterday's round was not great. I did make a 30 foot par putt and made 4 other pars. No need to dwell on the big numbers, but on one hole I had 2 Adolf Hitlers separated by a Rommell. It didn't help that the sand was awful but 5 shots? Whatever. Anyway, there were positives in the round and I'll take those away and leave the rest!
Today I got some work in on chipping and on the clubs I'll probably use on par 3s and a couple of drives tomorrow. Pretty happy with that.
I also trimmed the yard -- a major trim. I'd picked up a new trimmer last week and this was my first test drive. I went fairly high end but this one's electric, not gas, and I really liked it. Plenty of power, the battery life is great and it's got some features that really help out. It doesn't make me pine to get out and trim again but it does remove the dread!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and the start of next week!

Just build on the positives and don't let the small number of bad shots stay in that 6 inches between your ears. You will do better next time out.
Nice to get the yard looking good. If you are ever bored, I have a yard that could use a little sprucing up. My wife does not allow me to do yard work (oh darn) so I am always looking for someone to do it.
The movers are coming tomorrow to take the furniture sometime after lunch. Mrs. Hawk and I delivered some smaller items to the apartment earlier today. If all goes as planned, my in laws officially move in on Wednesday. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Got some good shots, but not the one I was after. The osprey parents are feeding their young in a nest on a tree in the middle of the lake. They bring them food every morning and have a full fish in their talons as they fly into the nest. It is a classic shot. The wind was blowing so the lake was choppy. As a result the mom and dad could not see through the ripple to catch any fish. All they brought back were sticks to fortify the nest. Got good shots of that, but it isn't what I was hoping for.
Looking at changing the venue for the workshop AI I am planning in August. Since the participants will be using their computers and doing things with us, it would be better to have a place with tables instead of the auditorium seating at the playhouse. Wish us luck.
Happy Sunday!!!

I think I'll defer to the pros you hire for your yard! I didn't mow during the whole time this thread's been dormant until yesterday due to the dry weather. I mowed just ahead of a couple of good drenchers, removing the brown tops from the blades and now it's really greening up. Stayed with the 5.5 inch blade.
By now the inlaws should be settled into their new digs and, hopefully, you have some peace in your home.
Sticks are definitely not fish, but the shots were still good practice with the new lens for when they do grab a fish.
I like the idea for your AI workshop. Good luck getting a place that works!
I've had a pretty busy golf week! One of the rounds featured 4 birdies! The longest was only a 15 foot putt, so these were all solid holes! Still had a couple of blowups but recovered pretty well. And got a break when a ball that would have gone into the water hit a covered bridge and stayed out. Added another birdie in Monday's round and yet another on Tuesday -- both were on par 3s on shots that were not far from going in for my first ace. Both broke a little more than a cup and fell in center cup. Went to TG today to work on the consistency.
After rounds the previous week, I'd become a bit disappointed with my short game and really went to work on that last week and over the weekend. That work really paid off!
Otherwise, summer just keeps rolling along! Have a great weekend!
