No way would they get a 1st round pick for Jimmy G. His sample size at the time was way to small to justify it.

They definitely would have gotten a first round pick or even more, and supposedly had offers. But they didn't supposedly want to banish him to Cleveland. I completely disagree they couldn't have done it. Word was at the time they wanted to place Jimmy G in a good situation, but a second round pick wasn't enough.

I think the Cleveland talk before last years draft was a lot of smoke and speculation. The Pats MAY have been able to get a better deal from another team maybe even Cleveland but it was never going to be what some of the rumors were.
I think you may be onto something about them finding a good situation for G but it was probably because if traded he wasn't going to sign with a team like Cleveland. THAT hurt his trade value as much as anything. Who is going to give up a first rounder for a guy they know won't sign a deal with them. It limited what they could get back. The teams that maybe would have been willing to give more value were bad teams he didn't want to sign with. G had more leverage than most realized.
Let's imagine Folles is available at the draft and the Pats were interested. They send out feelers to Philly they may be interested but would like to talk to Folles to see if he'd be willing to sign before FA when he is available after next year. Philly either says no or they talk to his agent and the agent says no way he'll sign. He wants to go to one of just a couple teams and the Pats aren't one. In either scenario the Pats interest dries up. No way they're giving up top dollar in a trade.
I think interest wasn't as high as we think in G because of those kinds of issues.

There was no real buzz 😉 about Jimmy G until after he was traded and starting winning games on a supposed crappy 9ers team. No team in their right mind gives up a 1st round pick for a guy who had just 2 starts...and Cleveland hasn’t been in their “right mind” in ages, especially where a QB is concerned. As fresh already alluded to, they let their best QB slip away to the bench in NE.

Whew!!! The world isn't on the brink I still can disagree with Buzz. Even if it's very slightly. There was a buzz at the draft last year. ESPN... for what it's worth... reported through several of their so called reporters that Cleveland was willing to part with as much as 2 first rounders.
I didn't believe it... for the same reasons you mentioned Buzz. There were and still are a lot of media yahoos around here promoting the idea G was worth so much more. But that's AFTER he had a great start with SF. So I say cool the jets a little to see what he does now that there's video on him.

Cleveland. Pre-draft/draft. Nothing more needs to be said.

Well if the Browns blow the first and fourth pick of the draft, they should be disbanded by the league.

It's like the commercial... beef?... it's what's for dinner. Blowing first round picks?... it's what they do.
They've had so many high high picks and they just keep getting worse. You'd think you can't get worse than 0-16. But it's Cleveland so don't bet against it.
