It's time to make registering on this site mandatory. Agreed. The only naysayer thus far in this thread is kinda proving my point here... I was willing to be flexible and just make it mandatory for posting in the political threads but clearly this abuse is happening in other places as well. And as was mentioned before, no other site I have ever been a part of has ever allowed non-members to post.
I sincerely hope CampKohler can see that and considers making this next step so that the tools available to us can actually be utilized by individuals as needed.

There is no abuse happening here, just unanswered valid points that demonstrates that there are people who cannot handle reading some text they disagree with, especially because that text was incited by a post that was written BY that same person.
It's just for all those who cannot stand losing an argument because they don't realize that if they take a step back and take a neutral point of view, they indeed crossed a line. But they failed to see that they did - because they are self-righteous and cannot see the point of view of another who views things in another way.
Nobody would post inflammatory remarks against someone for no good reason. All I see here are the aftermath posts, which clearly skews one way. Evidence needs to be presented for the opposite point of view too, and I'm sure there would be something that triggered the deserved response. If wronged, shall we not revenge?
Now obviously I struck a nerve here. Now do the adult thing and simply stop reading or ignore my posts instead of crying "mommy!" because you don't like what I wrote ...
Why do you want post control when you don't want gun control? Neither should be controlled.

Here is an example of the problem with guests.
You have a "guest" not contributing in a meaningful manner of any kind. This is not disagreeing with another's "viewpoint" but rather disagreeing with nonsense that adds nothing to any discussion.
Again - this kind of post is not a 'difference of opinion stemming from opposing viewpoints' during the course of honest debate. This person signed in as a guest simply to post insults and blatant personal attacks and there is no way to whitewash this so as to justify it as 'normal daily activity'.
The bottom line is that the trolls are abusing the set-up of the forum and it needs to be corrected. No amount of parroting the same deflections and moving the goalposts changes that reality.

While I think the title of this thread ("trolls who don't register) is a bit over the top, the ability of an unregistered guest to post to forum threads, is a problem.
Part of the issue is that guests posts can't be blocked, as can posts from registered users. Taking advantage of that, a certain poster from GB (AnotherOne, or A1 for short) who was on ignore by many at GB (or in some cases, blocked by moderator action) has made guest posts, which many consider trolling. (I consider A1 over the top, but he was never the only one, at GB -- or here at GBO).
Apparently irked that A1 can't be blocked, others (who may or may not be registered site members) make guest posts in retaliation. Some of those have spoofed A1's handle, which they can do. As we can all see here, that can result in tit-for-tat posting wars.
I'm afraid the only solution is to impose mandatory registration to post.
And more broadly, the posts in US Politics which get in overly personal digs, which attempt to provoke a reaction instead of just have rational discussion, has to stop. (I could name names, but won't).

CampKohler - when someone like jayrad1957 starts getting targeted for trolling, you know it is getting bad...

I do not mind guests....but, why do some guests become impostors of other members? That is wrong... good reason to register here. It is not hard to tell an impostor by their writing style or POV. Ignore them.

Rhetorical question: So why do guests not worry about the existence of imposters that could be "solved" by registering?
There's also the members that logout just to piss off another guest poster...

What is the current results of the polls I put in? I shot myself in the foot as I can't read the result of the poll because I can't vote myself (though it also means I can't stuff the ballot box!)

Nah, still less than 4 votes. I figured it'd help prove your cause but it turns out that appears you don't care either way.

Considering Camp hasn't posted here since 5/31, it doens't really matter at this point that I care... I'm not the one with the authority to do something about the problem which continues to fester.

I personally think you're simply discriminating against all anonymous posters.
That's not socially liberal.
