Mass murders in churches, schools, places of business. Families torn apart because one family member cannot get along with the others. There is a high mental health problem in the US and few want to talk about it. We fear those coming across the border yet more murders and deaths are caused by people with mental health issues and no one talks about it. Here is the place to discuss what should be done.

Just found this. Personality disorder is defined as "An enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from expectations of the individual culutre." DSM-V the guide to diagnosing mental disorders used by doctors and mental health experts.

The more the wife and I talk about all these unfortunate events that have taken place in the USA, the more we feel like society somehow has alleniated these killer psychopaths from their roots at home to beging with,
They grew up with one parent, or none and ultimately grew up like wild weeds, that no one needs or wants near them.

Reviewing the STOTU message, there was not mention of mental health issues. If we don't do something soon, we are going to see more disruptive behavior.

I'm PSMI (persistently, severely mentally ill), but unlike a lot of consumers I don't find my symptoms to be pleasant. Therefore, I stay on my meds. Probably the only thing I have trouble with is sleeping consistently.

Good for you taking the meds.

Anytime there is an issue whether it be a murder/suicide, robbery, shootings, stabbings, etc. and the individual/s is/are caught they use insanity as an excuse. Some people are mentally ill, but many use this as an excuse so that they are "not mentally competent" for a trial. Sometimes it may be true but at other times it may be an excuse to get off for a lighter sentence if anything at all.
In today's society, it seems that people are angry, unhappy and disrespectful. For example, there is road rage and then doing crazy things just because someone is in a hurry.
If someone is mentally ill, they should get on medication. Others blame someone else for his/her problems. There is nothing to be shameful for to seek help if you need it. It will do the individual, family, friends, and co-workers (if one is working) a big favor.

It took a trial, sending the case back on appeal, and a second trial to get Andrea Pia Yates (the Houston woman who drowned all five of her babies) a finding of insanity.

Had a weird night last night. Woke up bolt upright from a sound sleep a few minutes before two o'clock. Went in the living room and snuggled up with Smokey cat. Got sleepy about five o'clock. Woke up about nine o'clock. Was craving breakfast so I ordered McDonald's from Uber Eats. After I ate, I got sleepy again and slept to almost two o'clock. Should stay awake now. Slurping down caffeine to make sure.

Patty, you are right about some who use insanity to get a lighter sentence. But if someone takes another person's life, they are not normal. Often, family and friends saw the bad behavior but choose to ignore it. While I do not think crazy lady will kill someone, she has a personality disorder. Husband has no idea how to deal with it. I gave him a couple of articles from the newspaper and the internet, but he still did not understand what he can do. I think this is true of many people. Ihad parents of students who were in denial of their child's mental issues. Back to my first post, this is a problem few want to talk about. Otherwise, this topic would be much busier.

Another workplace shooting by a person with mental health issues. Still no discussion of dealing with the problem.

Soutxed:
Were you referring to the guy who got fired from his job of 15 years and went on a shooting rampage at the company?
I think he just went berserk. The loss of a job is devastating. One can loose everything they have without a job. He was 45 years old. Where was he to go for a job? I am not sticking up for him but I cannot imagine loosing a job and just being OK with it. There is not a lot of help for people that age and finding employment. I went through this when trying to find full-time employment when my mother passed away, and no one wanted to hire an older worker. I am not old just older. It really is tough.
I did not hear much from the people he worked with, about his personality other than he had some work violations. Not sure how severe they were.
Indeed, it is such a tragedy for 5 people to loose their lives at another mass shooting. One of the people killed was a student intern who was supposed to graduate in May with a human resource management degree!. Very sad.

The guy who killed five wasn't supposed to get a gun, but the background check system failed. Also, given his past history, the place where he worked wouldn't have hired him in the first place.

Due to the nature and scale of my businesses, travel and communications I encounter a lot of abnormal/irrational/unstable behavior in people.
Many I encounter are angry, erratic, fanatic, unstable, unreasonable, threatening, vengeful, hateful, jealous, envious, depressed, suicidal, paranoid, emotional, superstitious, odd, easily triggered, obsessive/compulsive, they blame others for their shortcomings - too much to list
Temporary Insanity is very common as well.
Many that are otherwise relatively stable have road rage type behavior when triggered.
I've encountered many triggered by terminations, sales of businesses, sale of rentals, evictions, foreclosures, repossessions, failure to renew leases, vehicle towing, parking/trespassing violations, fences/gates, calls to police, arrests, withholding/forfeiture of security deposits, court judgements, debt collection and more.
Male suicide is a major issue as well. Two of my male relatives and four of male my classmates in their 40s have committed suicide, largely due to financial reasons.
I'm amazed at how many of my classmates are receiving mental, or physical disability payments.
