Maybe now something will get done about Mental Health. At a convention of the NRA, a very friendly group, a person with mental health issues (according to the Secret Service) threw a cell phone at the President. Maybe POTUS with take this mental health issue more seriously now and declare it a national emergency. On the other hand the NRA to detract from the issue of guns will push a ban of cell phones.

May is mental health awareness month. If you have a family member you suspect has mental health issues, get them tested and treated. Parents, if you have a child with issues, if you had a difficult pregnancy, please have your child checked.

Going to have my every three months visit with the pdoc tomorrow morning if all goes as scheduled. At least I can say is two of her three meds are inexpensive. My prescription drug insurance charges the lower of $25 or a mail-order price if it's lower for a 90-day supply. Just got two of them refilled, they're in transit. One was $8.26, the other was $2.64 (free shipping included!).

Went to the pdoc this morning. She thought I was stable, she doesn't want to see me for three more months unless my moods start going up and down. Didn't ask if she knew the name of an in-network pdoc that she would recommend.

Got a 90-day supply of the most expensive pills she prescribes. They cost my health insurance $99.67 after my $25.00 copay. Probably well worth it because they literally keep me from going crazy from racing thoughts and general overstimulation.

They were considerably more expensive before they went generic. Used to have prescription drug insurance where you paid up front and then got a check in the mail. Spent nearly $600 for a 30-day supply. The pharmacist commented about the price and I told him "I get reimbursement for 80% on branded meds, 90% on generics. And once we're done figuring out that they're what we want, they'll go mail order and they'll cost even less."

Wife has a name brand but pharmacist said there is now a generic, it will save us a great deal of money. $40 / mo to $12.

In Colorado, they had a vigil last night from the most recent school shooting. They had a politician talking about gun control. He was shouted down by students chanting "Mental Health!"

Reasonable common sense gun regulation along with laws to combat the mental health issue is what is needed. That from a former libertarian.

And what laws would you propose to "control" mental illness? Do you want to bring back the insane asylum? Especially with the history of Big Government using it to stifle political dissent?

Nothing will stop all gun deaths. But better background checks, taxing some guns. I really don't have all the answers, but we can do better.

Actually, while not wanting insane asylum, we need to remove some of these people from society. We have become too politically correct on the issue. The problem of government using them to stifle dissent is less likely with more media and public awareness. One answer, hold family responsible for the actions of their relatives when you have reason to know this person is a menace to society. Ignorance will not be an excuse.
