I often have a song playing in continuous mode until something interrupts it. What song is stuck in your head today?
Billie Eilish - Everything I wanted.

What is it with these young female singers with beautiful voices, singing lyrics that make the listener consider hurting themselves? There are way too many depressing song themes (Titles and lyrics) to be a coincidence. Is it the mood of the country that's affecting the words being sung? Is it something else? Chew on this societal gristle for a while. * Halsey - Graveyard.

And this one applies to more situations than just the subject presented in the music video. It looked like it was a ton of fun to produce. We like memorable beats, with lyrics that have humor (the difficult concept) built-in. * Taylor Swift - You need to calm down.

Such a lovely voice. The dichotomy is stark. Angelic tones, and a flowing beat. The lyrics make me want to go walk into traffic, run the van in our closed garage, overdose on drugs I've never used, or start cutting on myself. It's almost a non sequitur. Like having a bouquet of really pretty flowers that smell awful (to paraphrase Mr. Spock in one of the Star Trek episodes that featured Harry Mudd). * Billie Eilish - Everything I wanted.

There was a lot of hype in the 1980s over the 1986 Dire Strait's Brothers in Arms album. It featured the 1st song on MTV's music video phenomenon (Money for Nothing). It had Sting in a cameo on the song. It was a severely popular, commercially successful album. No question. * But Mr. Mark Knopfler is primarily an artist, and that has always come through his music. A guitar to me is an object, but to him it is a vessel that produces unbelievable sounds that sooth and refresh the soul. The first time I heard him with the Dire Straits singing Sultans of Swing, I knew this was special. I wanted more of that. * There was criticism that the group's style was a rip-off of other artists. Don't need to even comment on how lame that was. Getting to a point eventually, we arrive at the musical pinnacle of the Dire Straits era. In my opinion, the most artistic Dire Strait's album was Love over Gold. Without question. Don't call your friends, don't look at your smartphone, just nod and accept the gift you are about to receive... * Dire Straits - Love over Gold (Title track).

With the passage of time, societal values change. Attitudes and behaviors that were accepted previously, aren't today. A number of popular songs have been "frozen" in time. Great then. Now? not so much? Back to the 1980s we go. * Perhaps meant as a warm and fuzzy comforting line, "I'll be watching you" is no longer the innocent, affectionate little cutesy line. It's basically a stalker's manifesto put to music. How interesting that The Police would be the group responsible for putting out this big 1980s hit. * The Police - Every Breath You Take.

Great topic, D2M! It happens to me, too, from time to time. Yesterday I was stuck in 1978 with Kenny Rodgers' The Gambler. I found I couldn't walkaway or run from that tune.

I'd never heard it until just now but your description is spot on. Someone is very disturbed. Here's what the artist says she intended:

One of the only truly meaningful songs that I can focus on in these times. it is time for internal reflection and appreciating the love that survives beyond humanity. * Al Stewart - Year of the Cat.

This one is especially pointed. Haven't heard it often, but the words are like little knives cutting like paper. Ouch! It's another of the "All isn't right with us in the society" song. She's angry, hurt, and being straight up with you, dog! * You should be sad - Halsey.

Backing up the musical library truck, I was able to get some mp3 songs off the computer, and onto my phone. I listen to them when I'm doing some rather repetitive tasks involving cleaning. Inside. outside. As long as a vacuum motor isn't running, I can hear it well enough. In a tribute to my youth, which was not totally wasted on young people's priorities. If you have the energy the next day... * Heavy Fuel - Dire Straits.

Sometimes you don't see the train wreck coming. Other times you see trouble coming, and open the door anyway. Wise decisions are occasionally set aside when the excitement in the moment takes over... * Dangerous type - Cars.

Being serene in these trying times is easier with a song that can transport you on a short, miniature, fantasy vacation. For a few minutes, you are young, healthy, adventurous, and looking for love (or making a future) with a special someone. It is almost haunting, and you know it immediately when it starts playing. Yes, music and songs have that power. When we allow it to. * End of the Day - Al Stewart.

Having added a bunch of "old" songs to my phone, I can adequately prepare for some Spring outdoor activities. Like cleaning, and maybe washing things that haven't been washed in quite a while. Like the van. And I could pair this Bluetooth headset I got a while back with it, so I may have hands free operation. The headset's primary purpose was to be paired with the main TV. The ability to pair it with the phone just adds more convenience. I'm all about convenience. * Push it! - Salt-N-Pepa.

Was hoping this one could be avoided for a while. "The times they are a changing" was a mild and marshmallow kind of sentiment towards what the 1960's became. For so many, the ride got wilder with the riots and unrest at the Democratic National Convention, in Chicago in 1968. College campuses were scenes of protests (1967-1969) and turned deadly at Kent State (1970). Internationally, the Vietnam War (1958-1975) was drawing more and more criticism and disdain from the country's youth. There was no lack of heightened emotions and strained civility. * The End - The Doors.
