Sneakers--You may be stuck with one channel until you leave. Reprograming a remote is probably a low priority.
Lorando--Astros win again and maybe they can keep it up for the rest of the season. Lucky you, no triple digit temperatures. Yesterday it didn't get above 97. We had a waterspout off the coast yesterday to make things interesting.
Ed--Same with you, few 100-degree days. But you did have some storms.
Found a way to watch the LL World series, but the team from San Antonio lost after all three of their pitchers were injured. Weird.
Took a bunch of stuff to recyle and then some more to Goodwill. Still a lot of stuff here to get rid of.

Seems to be.a low priority, the nurses don’t know how to do it. At least I have a good station to be stuck on.

Hi, Sneakers. Glad your outside temperatures are back to reasonable (for Texas). Is there a lot of visitor traffic in the halls on Sunday? When my father was in the nursing home, Sunday was the day when the parkng lot was full. The day had a different vibe. Church today had double the attendance of last Sunday, so summer activities are definitely winding down. Got there 3 hours early to open up all the windows and turn on the fans during the early morning cool when it was about 64°F. It stayed comfortable all morning.
Hi, soutxed. Hope the San Antonio LL players weren't pitchers who were trying to do what 12 year old arms aren't ready for. This is the time of year when teams have to make their move. The Astros have done it before, so that's an advantage. Yankees won a fun game today. Judge hit #51 and 52, plus Soto, Judge, and Stanton had back to back to back home runs. Earlier Stanton hit a single, but the bat broke and the shaft hit the umpire in the neck. He was wearing the old fashioned type mask, not the helmet. A scary scene. They carted him off wearing a cervical collar.

We currently have a temperature of 92 degrees with a heat index of 100. Not sure how many visitors they had today. Drowsed off and missed about the first twenty minutes of Cousin Martha’s church service. Also had to go to the toilet during the sermon so I missed more of the service. Didn’t miss the altar call but there was no response to it. Made two trips to the pop machine. Staff has it figured out where I’m going when I leave my room. Looked at my face in the mirror and noticed my right eye looks barely red. AJ called when I was in the bathroom during the church service. I called him back when the service was over. Lunch today was roast beef, a baked potato, green beans, a piece of cake, and iced tea. Consumed it all. Listened to SiriusXM The Message to just before five o’clock. Now watching KPRC Channel 2, which the TV is stuck on. At least I found the on/off switch on the bottom. Right now, I am in the wheelchair. Wish it had better brakes, the surface the brake rests on is worn smooth. just saw the KPRC Channel 2 long range guess. They are calling for rain Monday through Friday. No known reason I would be going outside. Can hardly wait until Wednesday and my Social Security Retirement payment. Just have $4 in my main checking account. Had left foot rebandaged a bit ago. Wound care nurse said it looks very good. It is no longer oozing. Just finished supper. Chicken salad sandwich, potato chips, salad, cantaloupe, and iced tea. Consumed it all.

Uncle: I went to school in Boston, MA. Grades 1 thru 8 were at a private school. Grade 9 was at the middle school. Then in the 10th grade, I went to the high school. The high school was about a mile from where I lived. There were 2 hills to climb so it was not easy. The lady who offered me a ride was when I was in the 10th grade. Those days there was no need to worry about being abducted, murdered, shot, etc. She was a sincere woman who had just dropped her kid off at the elementary school, across the street from where I lived. If I was walking somewhere these days, I would keep to myself and just keep walking. Have pepper spray if the need arises to use it. Have fun bowling this week.
lorando: The laptop computer is an HP. First, it won't stay connected to Comcast. Something is wrong with the connection. Then I was using it earlier before I came on this site, as I was playing some games on the AARP.org site and the damn fan on it was working overtime. It would not shut off. I thought there was a water leak in this apartment. The fan is not on now but the top right side on the bottom of this laptop is very hot. The computer guy cannot make it until the end of the week. I bought this computer at Best Buy and did not pay for the Geek squad fee. It has been at least 12 -13 days since I bought it. I have 15 days to bring it back and/or take out the warranty. I am a mess. Nothing works anymore as everything is so cheap. Should have stuck to a separate hard drive with an independent keyboard, mouse and monitor. Not a happy camper.
Soutxed: That is really sad about your wife's younger sister. Cancer treatments should never cost $500 per treatment. I realize she has no insurance where she is currently residing. It is bad enough getting diagnosed with such a frightening disorder, but to be charged that as an elderly person is soooo bad. I hope that can get straightened out so that she can get the treatment she needs. Something has to give. I heard about the spout you wrote about on the weather channel yesterday (Saturday).
Sneakers: Did Isaiah start his new job at Macy's? I sure hope he likes it. He may be more ambitious than John, but John has to learn that he has to work for a living and make something of his life. Cannot depend on Dad the rest of his life. Hopefully too that you will be getting out of the rehab place soon. It must be sometime in early September.
Have a good week Everyone.

soutxed, I remember you said at some point this year, you will be able to get a new phone for free. Have we passed that point? When is Jerry Jones going to hang 'em up? You might be right about McCarthy. This might be his last season in Dallas, unless, they actually win the super bowl. The Astros got a split with the Orioles. No one is running away with first place in the AL or NL. First is close, but usually someone has a good lead. lorando (NW PA), I do hope my bowling friend doesn't come back too soon. But it will be nice to have him back. Edgar Martinez as a hitting coach? That is a good move for Seattle. Sooner would have been better than later. patty7841, I'm sure Boston winters when you were a kid were colder than these days. I sure remember it being colder back then. Sounds like you had nothing to worry about when that lady gave you a ride years ago. Thinking it just different today. Take care everyone.

Patty--I have an HP laptop, and I don't remember having those kinds of problems. The salesperson at Best Buy gave me a website to download the material from old laptop to this one. I walked to school when I lived in Galveston, Grades 1-3 and in Brownsville, Grade 4 I lived across the street from the school until the Christmas holiday, then it was almost two miles. But then the state started building an expressway and to go around the construction was walking along a very busy street, so I carpooled. Same 7th-9th grade. HS mom would have to pick me but usually a couple of blocks from the school to avoid the traffic. Did you have to walk in the rain and snow? Problem with SIL us that this area has a high rate of poverty so more people on Medicaid than the metroplex. Governor will not take federal money for Medicaid.
Uncle--The new free phone starts when we have had these for a year which will be October. The phones themselves are not an issue, it is wife getting 40-50 spam/sales calls a day. Astros split with Baltimore was good. Got to see yesterday's game on ESPN. Jerry Jones will probably be a lifetime owner then it will go to his son.
Lorando--Can't imagine a church with no A/C. Glad attendance is up. We are still a little stagnant but maybe next week we will start seeing some of the older people return. Saw the highlight of the ump getting hit in the neck. Hope he is okay. Appears Judge is on the way to 60+ homeruns this season. Watched the last inning of the LL international championship. Walk off bunt where the Chinese catcher thew to first base and no one was there. Runner from 3rd walked home to win the championship. SA pitcher injuries were not pitching related. One got hit by a line drive, another tripped and the 3rd had run out of innings.
Sneakers--I have listened to the Message but know very few of the songs they play. Don't worry about sleeping during the church, I have done that while in the sanctuary, usually during the sermon since I don't have to worry about moving the camera. I would suspect that visitation increases on weekends. Did you roommate ever have a visitor? I too am waiting for wife SS deposit this Wednesday so we can help SIL.
Suppose to cool down this week, but already warm.
Next-door neighbor has been having a Generac installed. First day they had so many trucks that it was in front of three different homes. Been back several days including this morning. But also, a city truck. Be glad when they are done.

Hi, Uncle. Don't look, but we're running out of August! I don't know why I'm always surprised at the beginning of a new month. That's the way it works! It's a dark, rainy morning, but the ground's getting a much needed soaking. The automatic outside lights are still on and it's after 10AM. It's looking better for this afternoon. I was in Walmart on Saturday, and the place was full of parents and kids buying school things. Here's a dumb question for you: Are there Walmarts in Canada? My go to gas station was recently bought out by a Canadian chain, Circle-K (I think). Not familiar with that name. Have a super Monday.
Hello, soutxed -Oooh, what a way for LL World Series to end. Feel sorry for the player who failed to cover first. That's a lot of pressure for a kid! 40 spam calls in a day. Yikes. I don't answer my phone if I don't recognize the number. Very seldom do I take the phone with me when I leave the apt. I prefer emails, where I can think of the right words to use. It probably doesn't show from what i writer here! I think Sneakers said his brother is like that. But I know it's different if you have family that depends on you.
Morning, Sneakers. Glad to hear the wound care nurse is pleased with the healing progress. That's always a good way to start the new week (or end the old one). If your wheelchair was a car, it would never pass the state inspection, would it? Worn tires a bad brakes! Glad you don't have any hills to maneuver inside the rehab center. But getting up to a standing position must be risky business if the brake doesn't hold firm. Don't worry about missing some of Cousin Martha's church service. The intent was there. Not exactly sure what an altar call is, but I assume it's a public pronouncement of faith.
Hi, Patty. Hope the computer guy has easy fixes for your new laptop, and you'll be back in business at the end of the week.

Haven’t heard when Isaiah starts at Macy’s. John has very little ambition. AJ asks him to wash the dishes and he will wash half of them. He won’t last long at a job like that. AJ points out to John that he would be in a fix if anything happened to AJ. Expect to get released about the fifth of September. That is when I complete the course of IV antibiotica. That’s why I’m here. Could have gone home and gone to the infusion center daily but that interferes with AJ trying to work.odd jobs. Being in the skilled nursing facility costs me nothing between Medicare and my Medicare Supplement.

The Message is contemporary Christian music. Got sleepy Sunday morning. But nobody is aware at the other end that I zoned out. My roommate had his wife come and visit. Social Security Retirement payment is the last possible day of the month in August. My main checking account usually has it show up about ten o’clock Tuesday night. Need to give AJ gas money for the Tundra. Maybe we will get the Escape fixed as it’s not as hard on gas.

There are Walmart stores in Canada. IIRC, they bought out what was Woolco when Woolworth went belly up. Circle K a while back bought out the Corner Store chain in Texas, which was a spin-off of Texas-based Valero. Soutxed says Valero is the most expensive brand in the Rio Grande Valley, but here in Houston Exxon is the most expensive. We usually buy gas at HEB which is usually the cheapest that isn’t a warehouse club. The nurses let me sleep to seven o’clock this morning. Then, I got my pills and my eye drops. Staff is commenting that my red eye looks considerably better. I notice it doesn’t itch or water a lot. Had my daily IV balls this morning. Nurse commented that I didn’t hit the call button when they finished infusing. Without good brakes, you have to be cautious getting in and out of the wheelchair. But I have never fallen out. Called AJ, asked him where an important letter is. He said he was going to get it to me sometime. It’s been almost a month since it was first E-mailed to me. An altar call is a hymn played at the end of a service where those who have a decision to share with the congregation come forward. It can be an initial profession of faith, a rededication to the faith, a request to transfer membership from a like denomination, and maybe other things. After the altar call, the pastor announces why the person(s) came forward. Usually, the person(s) that came forward get to shake hands with the congregation to celebrate their decision. Altar calls are usually part of the service where the church practices credobaptism instead of pedobaptism.

soutxed, sorry to hear you wife gets so many spam calls. There are certain calls I don't even bother to answer. Now and then, I'll do a google search for a number and get no kind of response. Since when does google not have some kind of answer. Those are completely bogus calls and get blocked. Happy to hear you could see the Astros on Sunday Night Baseball. lorando (NW PA), Tuesday, we have our "dry run day". So I'll be getting up early like it was a regular work day. At least it's just the morning. Tuesday the 3rd will be back to work for real. sneakers (Metro Houston) probably knows this, Jimmy Kimmel often will run clips from 10 to 15 newscasts, with them all be surprised it's a new month. Most of them say the exact same thing, but that is what you do for small talk on a local newscast. It's kind of funny. Went for a walk this morning for the first time since the beginning of July. Because of trips away and having a cold, I just didn't go. Got to do more this week. Yes, Walmart is in Canada. They first opened in Canada back in 1994. There are two in my city. There are a number of Circle-K in my area. Most are ESSO or Shell stations. According to Wikipedia, they were founded in El Paso, Texas in 1951. Their headquarters are in Tempe, Arizona. Take care everyone.

Lorando--There are Circle K stores here in South Texas. One in Harlingen but McAllen has several. If you get some kind of card from Circle K, you get a discount on gas. I don't know about groceries. Valero is separate from Circle K. Most are part of Stripe stores which are owned by 7-11. Why they don't change the name and feature 7-11 products which are better known by out of valley visitors. Astros lose to Phillies last night. Sneakers definition of Alter Call was excellent. Baptist churches often use them. However, the Baptist church where our daughter works doesn't have one. Most stores here were busy the weekend before school started. Wal Mart, HEB, Target, even the Dollar stores.
Uncle--Got to see Astros on Fox Sports last night, or at least the last part of the game. Hope dry run goes well. Yesterday coming home from Monday prayer time, a school bus was stopped at the end of the block for several minutes with lights flashing, but no one got off the bus. I think they got off before we got there. Several cars were waiting. Wonder if driver had a discipline issue. Is there a Wal Mart near you?
Sneakers--I know some contemporary Chirstian songs but few that are played on the Message. Our music director at church listened to the station to get songs for our services but felt not many fit our style of contemporary music. Hope you get a better wheelchair, but you are leaving soon.
Gym went well. So did prayer time but some of the Hispanics in the group, not my wife, are worried about the election. A couple of prayer request were political. Group leader tried to discourage that, but it is a concern.
Got a call from our daughter about several concerns. She wants to go to SPI again for her birthday. But we may not be able to find a decent condo this late.
HS football starts Thursday. Will be working varsity games and a few sub-varsity. Will train someone on clock this Thursday.
Got up at sunrise and mowed the lawn before it gets hot. Rain predicted as it was yesterday, but the rain went around us.
Everyone have a good day.

Good Morning, Soutxed. Thanks to you, Sneakers and Uncle for the info on CircleK. My grocery chain, Giant Eagle, is selling all its gas operations to Circle K. It's based in Pittsburgh, and has gas stations in PA, OH, WV, MD, & IN, 274 in all, plus 211 grocery stores. Don't know if the name (GetGo) will change or not, but Circle K said it will continue the Grocery Perks program, which is good.
Hello, Sneakers. Thanks for the Altar Call info. I thought maybe it was for new "searchers", but I see it's more comprehensive. Well, I may have spoken too soon about no 90s this summer. Today's forecast is for 91°F, but I wouldn't count on it. Meteorologists seem to enjoy a little exaggeration when they get a chance. Glad to hear your eye is responding. Plus you made it to (almost) to tomorrow's Social Security payment. Lots of happy people on Wednesdays. Mine is on the second Wed. of the month.
Hi, Uncle. Hoping for a glitch-free dry run this morning. I bet it will be fun to get back behind the wheel again. Part of one of my summer jobs was filling up a 3,000 gallon tanker truck with processed sewage sludge from a holding tank, driving it to the land fill, and emptying it. I really enjoyed that, even though it wasn't the most aromatic job. The rest of the day was mostly painting tanks, pipes, and fire hydrants, which was also a nice change, plus it paid the bills until the next school year started. Circle-K must be expanding south and eastward. I don't know if they will change the name of the stations or just run them as Get-Gos. I remember 42 years ago when all the Esso stations in the US changed their name to Exxon. An Esso sign would probably be sought after by collectors.
