The two biggest convenience stores in Pennsylvania are WaWa & Sheetz. WaWa's are mainly in the Philadelphia & surrounding county's including counties in Delaware, NJ & Maryland. WaWa was a dairy that started in 1803 in Wawa, Pa., Delaware County, in my township. They were the main milk delivery dairy in the area. The first Wawa store opened in 1964. They now have over 750 locations. They finally got into the gas business in the mid 90's as a test. This century they started replacing older stores with super WaWa's that sell gas. Many of their stores still don't sell gas & some are not open 24/7. Other convenience stores in the Philadelphia suburbs have a difficult time competing with WaWa as even 7-eleven has closed many of their area stores.
Sheetz, founded in 1952 pretty much serves the rest of Pa. but for the most part does not compete with Wawa. There are both WaWa & Sheetz stores in Lancaster, Reading & Allentown. Sheetz also has a huge presence in Eastern Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia & Maryland. Unlike WaWa, Sheetz sold gas at all their locations going back to the 1960's & today only a few Sheetz (concept stores) do not sell gas. I believe all of their 600+ stores are open 24/7. Like WaWa, Sheetz is replacing older stores with much larger ones. The new Sheetz include, outside & inside seating, lounges with TV's & an area to recharge your devices and computer desks. Many are adding a car wash & a select number of stores have added Tesla super chargers.
So which do you prefer? Is there a different store you prefer like Rutter's, Turkey Hill, GetGo. Country Fair, Red Apple, etc.? If you live outside of the WaWa/Sheetz service area don't feel left out. I'd still love to hear what convenience stores are in your areas.

I grew up with WaWa & lived in the same township as WaWa. I now live in Sheetz country. WaWa had the advantage on hoagies because they were made with fresh sliced meats & cheeses & used Amoroso Italian rolls. That's all changed as they don't have meat slicers in their stores anymore & no more fresh rolls. In reality, WaWa's have become Sheetz. Sheetz stores are much nicer, have way more to offer like indoor seating & car washes. I vote for Sheetz.

When I was a kid, Lawsons was the convenience store everywhere I went in Ohio. None that I went to offered gas, but I understand there were some that did. They're long gone, though I still see their distinctive buildings around. This is typical from my memory: And of course their jingle, Roll on, Big O:

Wawas are by now in MOST of Fla, except S Fla, but nevermind..very familiar with them as I travel quite a lot to central Fla and the Clearwater Area...We are getting one here in SW Miami under 3 mls from home ..Yeah !!!!!!!!
Within or under 2 more months we get the first one here !!!
I already downloaded their App to my iPh..Ready for the Action..The BEST part is that a brand new ALDI already has openned next door and I was there opening day, but I have another older ALDI a lot closer.

Well .... It will not be in April., hopefully in May !!!
Wawa has announced it plans to hire 150 workers as it prepares to open its first stores in Miami-Dade this spring.
The popular Pennsylvania-based chain of convenience stores has a loyal following of fans who flock to the well-lit shops for their fast-casual menu of freshly prepared foods, made-to-order hoagies, specialty beverages, and breakfast items, along with fuel services and surcharge-free ATMs.
Wawa aims to break into the Miami market with three area stores, located at 6971 SW 24th St., 11101 SW 184th St., and SW 137th Avenue at SW 120th Street. Grand opening dates have not yet been set.
