Hey Canadians, there was a Special Challenge today that "may have" only been US Based. It was for 500 points to answer some survey question.A few of your fellow Canadian GB's have already claimed this code today - my guess, they're using a GPS spoofer to change their location to somewhere else in the US. This works very well on an Android Phone but NOT on an iPhone. I'm guessing that to spoof a GPS location on the computer, one would have to download an Android emulator and then install the Gas Buddy app along with a GPS spoof app. I don't recommend this, but hey, if Gas Buddy does not specifically state that you cannot do this, than it must be ok. That is the thoughts of some around here.

Was there a Special Challenge for Dominion Day / Le Jour de la Confédération today in Canada?? I believe this used to be a Special Challenge for Canada, and the US would get a Special Challenge for July 4th.

Well, I thought there might be some GB Special Challenges for both Canadian and US Users this year, as there had been in the past. Canada Day (July 1st) and Independence Day (July4th)! Alas, there was no Special Challenge to be had for anyone's Independence (I wonder why that is)...but one particular Canadian GB (Not a member of this forum) decided to create his own Special Challenge and get 5,025 points today. This was after he earned his 6,000 Monthly Bonus points on Sunday + the 100 for the weekly survey (8,125 points), his 1,000 Weekly Bonus Points on Monday (3,025 points), and today he racked up 5,025 Points (somehow getting 3,000 extra points). I reviewed a lot of geographically dispersed GB users to try and see if there was some special hidden challenge out there but no other users with any sort of out of the ordinary numbers were found.

In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter.
BTW, although I do not post in GB anymore, a friend of mine in LA said he had an extra challenge on the 4th.

Thanks for that datapoint bullworth There is a GB user from Calif. that someone asked me to follow their points and while that GB did not earn extra points on the 4th, they did earn an extra 1,000 points on the 5th (after already getting their 1,000 weekly Special Challenge Points on the 3rd). I'm assuming you're referring to Los Angeles vs. LA (Lower Alabama)! It's intriguing (to me and a few others) how a few different Canadian GB's, and a few US based ones, are able to game GB's points system for extra points. The Canadian ones are spread all over various Canadian GB sites. The same with the US ones (Calif, FL, IN, etc...).

Since there is already info posted on this. I will add that the extra challenge was a Chevron app offer. I believe that any state or Canadian province that has Chevron stations offered this challenge. So as not to encourage any fake GPS activity I will not name those states or provinces further than the California already mentioned.

Let me help a bit here by passing on some of the wisdom being older than you has given me. You can't control it so let it go.
From your past comments, it sounds like you have reported several GBs getting extra points to the admins at GB multiple times and they have elected to do nothing about it. It is their game so they make the rules, enforce the rules as they see fit, and serve as the judge and jury. Their verdict stands whether you like it or not. Bringing it to their attention was in your sphere of control so in that aspect, you did what you had control over by reporting it. Beyond that, you have no other recourse. I doubt the US Supreme Court will hear your case.
The problem isn't with the people taking advantage of the flaws of the game, it is with the people who make the rules and refuse to change them to fix the problem. The best competitors in the world, whether it is sports or other activities, not only train hard, they find weaknesses in their opponent or anomalies in the rules that can give them an edge. That is all these GBs from Canada are doing. They are taking advantage of a flaw in the system. I actually applaud them for being clever enough to figure it out and if they pass me in the points standings because of it, more power to them.
Once again, why waste your valuable time researching and complaining about something you have absolutely zero control over? Best wishes.

bullworth, I appreciate the sage advice & the tactful way you put things into perspective. Your age and wisdom serve you well! Maybe I am blinded by my youthful desire to see a more level playing field in the world; which time has also taught us, that life is not fair. While I will applaud those who will improve on something by finding a way to do something better, I cannot so easily just forget/ignore those who are clever enough to figure a way to game something. I agree, there is more value to my time than fighting some fight I will not win. I have won some battles along the way. One of the gamers of the GB system has been banned by GB and no longer posts. Again, thanks for your advice... Maybe I'm just the younger bull in the story of the Two Bulls on a Hill! :-)

Looks like there was a special Canadian ONLY Special Challenge today (Saturday).
I see that many Canadians GB's, from Toronto to Vancouver, were able to get the extra 1,000 points today. That's a good thing, as the US has had a lot of the Special Challenges lately that not ALL Canadians are able to get (except those that know how to game GB to obtain extra points). I think Canada is about 1 or 2 Special Challenges behind US GB's.
Of course, one of our own and someone who no longer comes here was able to double-dip somehow and get an extra 1,000 points for a total of 4,025 points, while most Canadians only got 3,025 points for Saturday (they already got their weekly bonus points earlier in the week).

Another Canadian Only Special Challenge today.
Many Canadian Gas Buddies are earning an extra 1,000 points today. Looks like you're catching up to US users who got a bunch last month.
As always, some Canadian GB's are able to somehow double-dip and earn 4,025 points...while most only get 3,025.
