Good Afternoon, Sneakers. Glad Michelle stayed behind. Or maybe you were looking forward to having the house to yourself for the day. I like the idea of a barbecue after a funeral. Sounds like a very Texas thing to do. The only time I've seen Michelle today was when we were both in the kitchen. She was doing dishes and I was getting lunch. She asked if I needed anything where she would be in the way and I said "Not any more, I got my plate before you walked in." All I had to do is push my walker from the refrigerator back to the business room.My drivers license arrived in the mail today. So what you can accomplish in a couple hours in Texas, takes 36 days in Pennsylvania -- and that's with no snags or delays! That explains why they send out the renewal notices 2 months in advance. Texas gives you a paper temporary license in about ninety minutes. The plastic one that is good for six years comes in the snail mail a few days after you get the temporary license. I don't remember them sending out a renewal notice because your license expires on your birthday so you look at your license every year. I was a couple of days late last time but I didn't get stopped with an expired license and there was no surcharge for renewing late. You do like pineapple a lot. I do too, but I can't eat it very often because it has a natural enzyme that breaks down protein, even protein in the lips, tongue and mouth. But it's worth the burn every now and then. The enzyme is only in fresh pineapple. It's the reason why gelatin won't set if you make it with fresh pineapple. I eat canned pineapple where the canning process destroys the enzyme. Gelatin will therefore set if you make it with canned pineapple. And you won't get the burn. The baptism was a young lady, I think 24. She's actually another distant relatives I never knew I had. So it was a credobaptism. I stream cousin Martha's church service. It's a Baptist church so it's all credobaptism. The two positions are somewhat at odds but I agree with the Baptists on credobaptism and I agree with John Calvin's teaching on pedobaptism that he lays out in "The Institutes of the Christian Religion." So I'm compatible with the Baptists and the Presbyterians but not so much the Methodists or the Anglicans.

if there is no football to watch. Texans played Thursday night and not interested in the Chiefs or the Packers enough to watch the game. You could have put on the Packers game and cheered for my Lions.

Any of you familiar with Quora? It's a question and answer site that I frequent. Somebody posted "Why aren't the cool kids voting for Donald Trump?" I responded to that by posting that the cool kids were voting for Kamala Harris. Yep, I follow you on Quora.

You could have put on the Packers game and cheered for my Lions. I would have rooted for the Packers because, after all, I am a Packers Owner. Although one time I went to one of the local ERs wearing a "Packers Owner" shirt and the nurse that was caring for me said, "Sure you're a Packers Owner!" I then explained the ownership structure of the Packers (over 500,000 owners, none of them allowed to have more than 4% of the shares) and contrasted it with the other NFL teams (no more than 32 owners, one of them has to have at least 30% of the ownership) and she said that I must really be a Packers Owner!
The Chiefs play the Buccaneers tonight on Monday Night Football.

Sneakers--Good that Michelle stayed behind, especially with the others staying for the BBQ. It is common here for there to be a meal after the funeral. In the Hispanic culture here, it is almost always Carne Asada with rice and beans. The only thing different from one to another is the dessert. Hadn't thought about Christmas being the last Wednesday of the month so getting a deposit on Christmas eve means we save the shopping until then. Wife's retirement now comes on the 26th. If the strike is settled, will that help you Boeing stock? I am not sure God cares when one is baptized as long as you get it. I know Baptist do it my emersion, Catholics dump water on the person and Methodist usually do it by sprinkling, but we have had an emersion several years ago. A HS student at the local private boarding school from up north wanted it that way. We went to the home of a member who lives close by with a swimming pool. Young man asked his parents to get in and put hands on while he was baptized.
Lorando--Glad it was cool enough for a walk and the walkways were cleared. Harlingen has so many trails, but we don't use them. Your state is getting a lot of news coverage today as being considered the state who elects the President. When Trump won in 2016, he really didn't have a majority of the votes but won in the big states. Some say that have a good chance of happening again. My license expires this January, but I better call for an appointment soon as they get booked in advance here, just like the doctors.
Really didn't accomplish much yesterday. Had a couple of breathing spells. Did go prayer time at wife's church and there were more people than normal. Bet it was the election.
Truck won't start do I am going to have it towed. Right now, it is raining and expected to do so all morning. We need the rain as water supply is running short.

Good Morning, Uncle. Garrit Cole changed his mind and opted back in, and will continue with his original contract. Too bad, in my opinion. Both sides said there will be more discussions later. So if you're a Cole fan, you can say there's probably an unwritten agreement to add some more millions to his contract, but doesn't want the Yankees to look like they caved. If you're a Yankee fan, you can say his opt-out was a ploy to get more money, but the Yankees called his bluff. I suspect the former; I wish the latter. Maybe they'll give him a few extra million if he promises to learn how to cover first base! Today is finally Election Day. Both candidates ended their campaigns last night in different parts of Pennsylvania. That old saying, "It's all over but the shouting" seems very appropriate this year.
Hi, soutxed. Looks like another record breaking high temperature today: 77°F predicted. The record is 74°. So there will probably be lines at polling places. I plan to get out on the trail in a few minutes, beginning at the other trail head in town. Knee is holding up well for now! Hope you get to the bottom of those breathing episodes soon.
Morning, Sneakers. I hope everyone got back home safely after the funeral. Interesting fact about canned pineapple setting up in Jello. Sounds like there's a good Jeopardy answer in there somewhere. I agree with soutxed about when to be baptized. Of course, Episcopalians are known for seeking the "Via Media" or "middle way". You could interpret that as not getting hung up on details, or as being wishy-washy. Hope your day is a good one.

Last night when I headed to bed, I got nauseous and short of breath. Had the Friendswood ambulance haul me to Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. The hospitalist wants me to have a Doppler study on my legs and they will decide to go from there. May miss the election.

Michelle was able to get supper started before AJ and the boys came home. The BBQ was brisket. I have a PDF copy of the official Social Security payment dates that I got from the Social Security Website.
The strike is settled but I sold my remaining Boeing stock earlier this year. Although Boeing did a good job swiping Kelly Ortberg as CEO from Collins Aerospace. Someone who can hopefully return Boeing to its engineering roots.
As to baptism, the Presbyterians lay on a damp hand.
Watching the election returns. I got out of the hospital, but by the time AJ drove past our polling place it was after the time where you needed to be in line. And I wouldn't have been able to stand that well without my walker, which was at the house.

Everybody got back home but AJ managed to get a toll road violation. I went in to pay it and I discovered it wasn't the first time he's done it.
The setting up of Jello only with canned pineapple is interesting. Only fruit that I know of that has that characteristic.
As to my day being a good one, I spent until almost seven o'clock in Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. I'm not moving around that well, my right knee complains about having weight put on it. Got home, went to the bathroom and back to the business room. Michelle brought me supper tonight.

Did the ultrasound find anything? Superficial venous thrombosis, but that's age related.

Watching the election returns on ABC. After I get done writing this, I'll take my heavy-duty sleeping pill and head to bed.
Sunday night, I went to bed about 11:30 PM and woke up about 3:00 AM. Went in the business room and fell asleep watching the early morning news.
Main thing I did Monday morning was bookkeeping and downloading E-statements.
Had lunch. A can of pineapple and two pastrami sandwiches with (IIRC) Swiss cheese.
In the afternoon, I called my lawyer and my Medicare Supplement insurance. Situation with lawyer straightened out but not the Medicare Supplement insurance. Medicare Supplement insurance can't seem to fix their own problems.
Had my Medicare Home Health visit about 3:30 PM. Rebandaged the toe wound with silver alginate dressing and wrapped gauze around the left foot.
Got two pieces of junk snail mail and the renewal application for the Tundra's license plates.
Had Stouffer's Chicken Alfredo for supper.
Went to bed about nine o'clock. Got nauseous, sweaty, and short of breath. Called AJ and he called 911. The Friendswood ambulance took me to Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. I spent a while in the ER. They did a head CT scan and when they had the results the hospitalist thought I was OK to eat and drink. Coughed up and spit out a lot of mucus when I drank water and ate a turkey sandwich, Sun Chips, and mandarin oranges. Didn't have that happen to my regular meals today.
Stayed in the ER until after breakfast, then they admitted me to room 320. Got lunch. Had chicken noodle soup, two chicken fajitas, broccoli, orange Jello, and iced tea. They got some more blood out of me in the morning.
The hospitalist came to see me and decided to run an ultrasound study on my legs because they were swollen. Only minor abnormalities in the ultrasound. Physical therapy also got me up and I was not that good moving around, but I went to the other side of the hall and to the window in my room with a walker.
About five o'clock in the evening, the staff said I could go home. Took them a while to disconnect my IV because they didn't start doing it until after AJ had arrived. My evening supper arrived in the hospital and I said I'm in the process of leaving and my housemate is waiting. AJ gets squicked out in a hospital environment and told the staff to put me in a wheelchair and roll me to the door. Isaiah was waiting in the Tundra because AJ had picked him up from work. Isaiah gets off work Wednesday and Thursday.
AJ drove home and Isaiah wanted to go to Aldi. He got in and out fast.
Didn't get by my polling place until after the polls closed, so I didn't get to vote.
Ready to make a comfort stop when I got home. Pushed the walker to the door, to the bathroom, and to the business room.
Been sitting in the business room watching the returns on ABC News. Michelle brought me two grilled cheese sandwiches for supper, and a jug of sugar-free tea to wash down the food.
Slept most of the day when they weren't doing anything to me. So, I am not that sleepy but I will be when I take the last pill of the day. I had taken it Monday night and the hospitalist was glad that I told her that so they aren't treating me for excessive grogginess.

Sneakers: I hope 2025 is a better year for you health wise. I know I have mentioned this before but, really, your health needs to improve. Not at all fun running to medical places, although they are excellent in your neck of the woods in TX.
Soutxed: I agree that God does not care when you get baptized, as long as you do it. Hope that your breathing gets better. I have bad asthma and weed is making it worse and my highs and lows of weed are a nightmare. Does the CPAP make your breathing better? For me, No. The CPAP takes air from the environment and the environment is filled with weed. The CPAP is not an oxygen tank. Wish it were.
lorando: I could not believe how much PA really matters in an election. Learned a lot last night watching. Of course, all of New England is and always has been blue states. Not sure why. Peoples running for election change and so do viewpoints. I cannot understand this one.
Uncle: You have been busy with bowling and then curling tonight (Wednesday). Good luck. I am not sure if you are giving blood this week.
Have a nice Wednesday!!!

Since July 2023, I have been running up the bills with my left big toe (which is now no longer an issue). The toe stump is now virtually healed, the wound that Medicare Home Health is treating is on what is now the rightmost of the toes on my left foot.
I have half a page of things that are wrong with me. I have had four admissions to Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital since the first of July 2024. One of them was a medication reaction. Seems I changed from needing a lot of blood pressure medicine to not needing a lot
I don't have anything wrong with me that's life-threatening. I go in the hospital short of breath and the main things they seem to be able to find are aging related.
I'm fine with Dr. Clause, I've seen him often enough.

Sneakers--A toll road violation? How much did the fine come to? Sorry to hear you had another trip to a hospital, but at least you have a good hospital to take care of you. I hear more negativity about the two in Harlingen and recommendations to go to McAllen (30-mile trip) or Houston. I am with Patty, hoping you have a better year medically. I forgot you sold the Boeing stock.
Lorando--Your state is one of those swing states so got a lot of media attention. Texas is so red the candidates for President tend to assume we will vote red. Even South Texas, which was a strong Democratic area now is Republican. Most of the change at the Presidential level was due to many Hispanic men cannot vote for a woman. Young Hispanic males tended not to vote. Back to Sports with all the Presidential coverage, missed that Cole went back to Yankees. Temperatures went down yesterday, and we go a little rain in the morning, but media showed people standing in the rain to vote.
Patty--My C-Pac machine is acting up. Somehow water gets in the hose, and it makes a lot of noise. Called the company and they gave me a fix, but it didn't work. Will try another fix and if it acts up tonight and may just take it back. Sorry your environment is not good for your health. New England tends to be mixed when it comes to politics.
Tuesday night while watching the election coverage, I started having breathing issues. Gave up and went to bed but was having issues all night long. Was able to get into the doctor yesterday morning so that is why I didn't post. He checked my reports and tried to get me to the cardiologist for a stress test, but no luck until day before Thanksgiving. He prescribed an anxiety medication similar to the one he gave my wife. Wife and doctor got into a discussion about her medication until I jokingly said "I am the patient." By afternoon I was feeling better. I think the stress of the election results bothered me way to much. Whatever happens, this country will be okay. My "expert" opinion is Harris got into the race too late and there were many who didn't know her too well. Also, inflation hurt her as a candidate and many voters, to hell with Trumps' antics because they believe he will lower prices. I taught in Economics, the President cannot really affect prices, it is supply and demand. I've said enough. Have a good day.
